John Linneman: "There will be surprises."

This reminds me of when back in April it was said that "there are a lot more secrets to share", well needless to say, we're still waiting for those secrets to be revealed, unless those secrets were suppose to be the missing features... So those "surprises" better be something positive this time around.

Maybe it's just a smart way for them to hook people into always checking their future videos, so they get more views.

Surprises has a sense of mystery to it, and who does not like a good mystery.

I thought the next gen machines were going to leave all but the greatest gaming pcs in the dust.
An 8/16 ryzen (ok, slower clock) with a 10/12tf GPU is far ahead of the large majority of purpose built gaming PCs out there... Just the video card that matches what's in these consoles cost as much or more to than the console... The SSD in the ps5 is faster than any nvme drive you can plug on an Intel CPU too.

I mean, you can't even buy the video cards that blow these consoles out of the water anyway.

60 fps colourful platformers. Nintendo has been doing that for ages.

Sony does it and for some reason it's the second coming. In the real world next gen only and unoptimized godfall can run on an old ass i-5 or even FX processor 8gb of ram and a 1050ti at 1080p 30 fps medium preset with ease.

I thought the next gen machines were going to leave all but the greatest gaming pcs in the dust.

All these Sony exclusives can run on a ps4. There's no reason why demon's souls can't hit at least dynamic 1080p 30 fps. PS3 enemiy count and corridor level design after all.

Ratchet seems to be the only true ps5 exclusive
Good Lord. What a troll post.

Anyway, I'd like to mention in the Digital Foundry interview with Bluepoint on Demons Souls. They mentioned they're pushing 4 gigs per second of data. Good luck doing that on PS4. Not to mention everything else they're doing that requires the horsepower of PS5. Sorry to break it to you, but there's no way in hell you're doing that on a consoles from 2013. Absolutely laughable.

Show us on your Amiibo where Sony hurt you.

Richard says, "...Not talking at all about platform comparrisons, people are going to be surprised."

Maybe I'm misreading what he's saying but I don't think it's power or loading speed related. It's something else. Either a specific feature or a specific game announcement.

To be honest, they don't explicity state in that video that the surpirses are for PS5 (although John's tweets seem to suggest that they are).

Interesting...

Such hate. Why? Nobody said Sackboy is the 2nd coming of anything. It's a just a new game out now that some are liking. Looks like you're having a problem with that.

Nintendo platformers have always been highly praised to the moon and back. I don't know what more do you want? Is Sony not allowed to do a good one? Are only Nintendo platformers allowed to be praised?

I think he shortly said after that, they did not have a copy of Valhalla for the PS5, so don't think it was that.

But then again:

Ok, so this is something I've been wondering about - this has been true for current gen and seems to continue to the next. Why is it that Xbox and PS display colours ever so slightly differently? I'm not saying either is better, just that the difference is very much noticeable in A/B comparisons like this.

Since some are still missing this point, we already have the promised surprise:

Starts with "previously on Digital Foundry" and refers back to the foreshadowing.

I know, that for sure was it, and I missed it, and will add this to the OP.

Anyway, it fun seeing what else it could have been.

Dont worry, Xbox exclusives will come one day, you will be able to get an XSX pro to play them on as well.

Honestly, I think Sackboy has flown under the radar. To be frank it's pretty hard to stand out from Spiderman MM and Demon's Souls.

This surprise is like the surprise you get when I make my favourite recipe 'Sausage Surprise'.

The surprise being that there's no fucking sausage in it.

But then again:

I can say, that is NO frame counter in this video.

The tested sections here at the start are an FMV running at 30fps EVEN on PS5 and SX.

Well, I thought since HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 also mentioned that and was all cryptic about it, then we had multiple pages of discussion on the matter, it should've been someone we can trust. But gaf just being gaf I guess.

Yes. And then they have to record video for multiple systems. Then edit. Then write the commentary. Then produce the video. It hasn't even been a full day.

They knew this was coming! They could have hired an army of trained monkeys to do this all leg work.

Somehow I doubt that Eurogamer is going to spend the resources to hire an army of trained monkeys to make a comparison video to give ammunition to console warriors on the website NeoGAF.com.

Obligatory:

So has John Linneman or Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry indicated what they meant by "surprises" when talking about the next generation???

Richard: "and without giving anything away and not talking at all about platform comparisons. Uh I think people are going to be surprised. That's my takeaway there are surprises here. Right yes."
John: "I think we can agree on that there will be surprises."
Both laugh.

From this video, time stamped:

But it could be this as one surprise:

Which is a nice surprise.

Looks amazing! Like watching an animated Disney movie, and the character voices are excellent!

Originally I thought, Sony had Spiderman and Demon's Souls as big hitters at launch, but we now can add Astro's Playroom and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

We know John is a big fan of platform games like Knack, so maybe this was one of the surprises.

SOLUTION

This was probably it, which I missed.

And post #60 on page 2 by iconmaster iconmaster re-emphasizing this.

I still see some very low quality textures, honestly inadmissible for a next gen title as well as some not very rounded corner, but it is a lauch game and a coloured platformer, so doesn't matter much
