The surprise is that they know that the more often these content makers that rely on hits to pay the bills make claims like "There will be surprises", the more hits they get and the more money they get.

I thought they said the surprise was there is a good launch game in little big planet. That is like those baiting news headlines. "You won't believe what game is good on the PS5, click here.

I thought the fact that PS5 had good BC & that both consoles was performing pretty close to each other was the surprises.

I don't think anyone that was paying attention was too surprised by the similar performance. These are two machines with a near identical architecture and very similar raw capabilities. We have also seen this before with the Xbox One X - that had a raw performance advantage of ~50% over the PS4 pro yet most of the time you had to resort to pixel-counting autism to spot the differences. Using the same metrics, the Series X only has ~20% raw performance over the PS5, so the differences are likely going to be even less noticeable.

Honestly, the performance differences between these two machines are so far down in the weeds that they are going to be swamped by variations in the skill of different development teams.

Isn't it quite obvious that the "surprise" part was hinting that the PS5 actually could run some multiplats better than the Series X?
Xbox fanboys have been citing "delta" for a long time before the release, even PS camp were certain that the X would trump the PS5 in power. Then again, for some of us, this was expected.

I thought the surprise was getting 20 of PS4s best games for free. I thought that was killer.

huh? We have several games now that run at 120 fps on Xbox Series X and only 60 fps on PS5, you wouldn't call this a massive difference? Wow. How different do they have to be to call the difference big?

Question was asked and answered.

Mods please consider closing this thread, as console warriors have arrived and they scare me!

I call BS.
There will be no surprises.
Why keep surprised when both consoles have launched? Not like either side can change anything to counter it.

To quote myself, here is the answer:

Was skipping through the Digital Foundry PS5 launch stream and happened to stumble upon John's explanation about his "PS5 surprises" comment. Basically, when he made that comment he didn't know the PS5 BC video was already uploaded, and great BC performance was one of the surprises he was referring to. The other surprise is the PS5's performance compared to the XSX in third party games like DMC5 SE.
So, nothing crazy. No more surprises. Hopefully that ends the crazy speculations.

Ehh.. And you think that is power releated? We are talking about two different things here. A 60Hz cap is easily removable and not power related.
