Jonathan Blow doesn't read contracts carefully.

What a joke.

For someone who's indicated he's planning to put The Witness on XBO, he certainly doesn't seem concerned about torching that bridge while pointing and laughing.

Doesn't read the contract

Rages when stuff happens regarding the things he signed the contact for

Please read the fine print, everyone.

looking at posts in the thread, and remarks that he made himself a while back, it seems clear that he knew that he didn't get to control the price on XBLA

i don't really see what he thinks MS owe him. he's basically been a raging anus about them constantly since the day braid was released (not without reason, mind you), but then he becomes petulant at the idea that they didn't engage him with pleasantries when otherwise acting within the bounds of the contract.

Being professional and respectful in the public space, especially when you make an ass out of yourself. He's acting like a child and just makes gaming in general look embarrassing.

lol gamers

You guys are so insecure it's ridiculous. You have movie actors saying they would call Putin a brother, musicians that get arrested for DUIs, athletes saying dumb shit all the time

but some tweets from an indie dev that 90% of gamers wouldn't even recognize somehow hurts gaming

Imagine the trouble that guy would be in if he had a job that required him to have a maturity level somewhere above that of a sixth grader. Lord help him if The Witness is anything short of amazing.

Owe is a strong word, and Braid certainly made him wealthy, but it did have a notable impact on the 360's public perception, it was the beginning of the modern indie focused XBLA. They don't owe him, of course, but it does seem extremely strange they wouldn't have courted The Witness as early as possible.

these are the best, because you see the first page of poster are just ready to join the hilarious rage mob. then not only does blow look like a massive douche but the first set of posters as well.

I think MS has more to gain from The Witness than Blow would. Or at least much more than some inflammatory tweets ever would impact that decision. They'd make an exception of the Id@xbox clauses so fast. Though, Blow and others may still have axes to grind with MS. I wouldn't blame them, seeing Indie Game The Movie.

Then there's this lolzy tweet.

So you're saying vidya games are as popular and stable as movies, music, and sports. As a gamer, I'm not near confident gaming will last longer than those 3....so yea insecurity is cool.

It took this guy 3-4 years to realize his game has been this price for a while? Does he not look at his paychecks or even look at his game? I mean, you'd think he could spare a minute in the past 3 years to look at his own game's store page lmao

he's also done a lot of damage to the brand among enthusiast gamers

i'm just saying that if i were MS, keeping up developer relations with jonathan blow probably wouldn't be at the top of my list of priorities

There's nothing wrong with venting and knee jerk reactions on twitter. Just be prepared to face the consequences (not that I think there will be any in this case)

His revenue might have been kept the same, so he may not have noticed any ongoing change.

That's how Sony works PSM titles. You set a wholesale price and you'll always get your due cut with no change, but they can charge what they like for the title - even less than your price.

He clearly doesn't have much knowledge of the business end of his business

gaming has been around for 30 years or so. It's going to continue being around because people are going to keep making games.

Do you think the government is going to release some widespread virus that makes everyone hate games?

With social media like Twitter stuff like this is going to happen, the good part is he realized he was wrong and accepted it.

Yeah the first tweet was silly but whatever.

I'm pretty sure those people get called out too, stupidity is not something we should ignore. Are you absolutely sure that was the best response you could muster?

Wow, that changed quickly.

As one of the first indie darlings, he sure seems to have let a lot of the praise for his first (and only) game go to his head.

He is frequently shooting his mouth off about something or the other and has demonstrated limited self-awareness.

Dude should just shut up and program.

Right now The Witness is effectively "PlayStation Exclusive". And it's thrown in with the likes of Transistor, Rime, and others on the hype list. The Witness on XB1 is an E3 announcement. Xbox would gain more good mindshare than Blows studio gains in money.

Blow has never been an "Indie Darling", he made a widely heralded game. And he's never been nice. Also, he's a hands-on programmer on his game.

"Hey! My game price was unilaterally lowered without any input from me. I'll write a passive aggressive tweet about it just this instant. HAHA" *tweets* "Hmmm I have this feeling that maybe I did agree with this... Hmmm Let me check... Oooops My email database only goes as far as 2011. I'll also tweet this HAHA This is certainly amusing."

Hey look a human made a mistake, lets rake his ass over the coals because we're bored instead of showing a bit of empathy!

"The password to my luggage is 1-2-3-4-5. Maybe I shouldn't have tweeted that just now?"

How embarrassing. Sometimes it's better to purse your lips and get the facts before jumping onto Twitter and crying foul.

I look forward to checking out The Witness on my PS4, but it's hardly E3 announcement worthy -- maybe in a montage with other indies. Nor is it a system seller. Subjective I guess, but I don't see this game having a huge impact on mindshare. I mean it's coming out on PC and iOS even..
