The original Halo game is being reworked with new visual assets.
Joystiq reports that previous rumors regarding a Halo: Combat Evolved remake are in fact true. According to the information obtained, the game does not use the original visuals upgraded into a higher resolution, but instead features all new art to take advantage of the 360's capabilities.
It is believed that the remake is under construction at Saber Interactive, most recently the team that worked on TimeShift. The remade installment of Microsoft's sci-fi shooter is expected to arrive on November 15, 2011 ten years to the day of its original launch.

Yup, that's what most folks are speculating.Orayn said:Saber? I was under the impression that 343 Industries was working on that... Perhaps they're doing a new installment entirely?
Lackluster doesn't even begin to describe their portfolio.claviertekky said:Sorry for my naivety, but why is GAF upset that Saber is making the original?
Are they terribad at making games?
I wouldn't mind a balance upgrade to make the pistol less godly and the assault rifle less useless. An option for destructible vehicles would also be appreciated.thezerofire said:All they need to do is upgrade the visuals, put some new control schemes in, and add online matchmaking. Don't touch anything else.
So this would be the equivalent of Treyarch working on the remake of the original Call of Duty?Orayn said:Lackluster doesn't even begin to describe their portfolio.

Well, if they remade the assets and approached Halo 1 like a Halo:Reach mod, multiplayer should be built-in.thezerofire said:I don't think anyone would buy it if it didn't have online multiplayer. That's really all it was missing in the first place.

Detox said:The problem is November 15 launch is too funny. Halo going up against Assassins Creed, Skyrim and the next COD. It might be a remake but I don't think MS would want to go up against AAA third-party games like that.

Yeah, it doesn't confirm SI is making it.miladesn said:Read it again...
MS wouldn't want to be stepping on the toes of third parties especially those 3 franchises. Which is one of the reasons why their flagship games Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza all release around September - October. I don't see a Halo remake being as enticing as a new COD, Assassins Creed or Elder Scrolls.markatisu said:Because a 10th Anniversary Halo release is not AAA?

Genesis Knight said:It seems unlikely that Microsoft would set the Reach and CEmake against each other in the multiplayer wars, yeah? Seems like CEmake might not get XBL matchmaking just to keep Reach as the star player.
most people I know would ditch Reach in a heartbeat for some online CEBroHuffman said:You don't think the reach players would switch? I know its only been a year, but COD players move on yearly.
Something like this with no bloom would be perfect for Halo. Just to get rid of the horrible taste Reach left.Benjamin1981 said:Pretty much. But i think the remake will come with the Reach multiplayer on a second disc. Included will be a few remade maps from Halo 1 which will become DLC for Halo Reach.
Dani said:They would use new assets but the Reach engine? Halo CE's physics engine will never return.
Father_Brain said:I did. I'm not missing anything. It doesn't say that Joystiq's rumors are true; it says that Joystiq is reporting (three months ago) that previous rumors (also from three months ago) are true.
