Judgement Day: Too Human Demo Up Now!

the fighting is horrible. i probably could play trough the demo without looking at the screen.

you just hold the stick in a direction, the character handles the rest. its not what i would call gameplay.

Impressions :

- Bad animations all over, cutscenes are horrible and the framerate is janky.
- The dialogue is simply lol, so cheesy it's worse than moldy cheese
- Buggy. Yes try jumping on the first stairs, you stand a feet up in the air!
- Gameplay, well it's fun I guess if you like this kind of game. It's just a straight up mashing game like NNN or something, not my cup of tea.
- Your friendly NPC squad doesn't do shit.

Ugh..as horrible as I thought it was gonna be. Really I went into the demo with an open mind but hey the game is quite horrible, and only 10 hours long. Graphics are atrocious too, for a UE3 game. I just got UT3 last week and my god the difference is like Ps2 > Xbox 360 to me.

I quit playing before the demo ended, did not want to see more, or play more.

Well, That's because a handful of people have been all 'emo' about this, if you think about some of the personal crusades that have popped up in the last year or so . . . regardless, by all appearances the game is decent (and not the disaster that E3 '06 portrayed), and I wonder if some people are likely not going to accept that no matter what the final quality . . .

Whose opinions here can we actually trust to be objective, though?

I can't wait another 7 hours plus download time to find out!

What a bunch of pathetic fucks, so its their opinion only which counts now?

Grow up you morons, everybody is entitled to an opinion, if you like it, fine, more power to you. Now you have a great game to look forward to.

What's the point of attacking GAF as a collective?

EG is still a great site. It's just a shame the comments/forums now seem to be populated by a core group of posters that think their word is law and that somehow the entire site is there purely for them.
A spin-off site, videogaming247 seems to be going the same way unfortunately.

Anyway; TH demo. Stop posting snippets of info. Go away for an hour, give it a good going over and then post full impressions :-)

I'm going to bed, but I have a hunch that GAF is gonna totally sink this game when morning rolls around. I look forward to seeing the results of the bloodbath.

Except the majority of opinion of GAF can become completely ridiculous. A great example is the insane backlash against GTAIV, people were craving it for years and a month later the people begin hating the game in droves.

Could it be that people were excited for the game, only to then actually play the game and not enjoy it? Not all of us were born with psychic abilities you know. :)

You don't even really have to point a certain direction. You'll just slide over to someone eventually. The camera is really a tremendous problem.

Not really at all a very fun game.

Perhaps they're on to something...?
I waited for GTA with bated breath and upon finally playing it I was a bit disappointed.

And sometimes there really isn't a majority, it just looks like one.

In any case, looking at GAF or it's mods as one single entity makes it much easier to dismiss them.

Animation is horrible, some of the weirdest face rigging I've seen.

the combat in the demo is basically twirl the right stick, I'm not exaggerating. I don't even have to look at the screen.

More cliche's than a high school student film, with some even wackier cinematography. Boss fights are simply "shoot at guy."

This game is a total mess.

Which begs the question:

Which is more painful, Too Human or your fucked up leg at its pain prime?

Agreed. However, I might pick this game up if it's like 20 bucks or less in the future.

On the plus side, the loot system seems to work pretty good. I just got a blue quality sword that's sick as hell. I could see myself having some fun with this purely as a diabloish type game, but I'm a complete whore for these types of games.

The complete lack of polish in this game is astounding though, it seriously feels like something that was cranked out in 9 months by some studio in Poland.

This could have been a sleeper if Dennis hadn't hyped the game into the stratosphere. There are alot of flaws and the game lacks polish, but there is alot to like for people who like the genre.

Look, i'm not saying people can't have opinions, but what I can't stand is bandwagon jumping. There were legitimate concerns about GTAIV, but those weren't the reason people were attacking the game.

Same here. I can't in good conscience spend $60 on this, but I'll probably buy it cheap someday, just to see the cool skills and what not. I stopped at Cyberspace because I gots comics to draw before work, but I'll probably give it a full playthrough eventually just to see if any of the skills you can unlock make things more fun. (I doubt it.)

Just coming off my first impressions of the game, and that's pretty much how I feel. I'd add:

Wonky controls. Stiff movement and a feeling if frustration with the controls. The camera tries to be cool and unique and fails hard.

Horrible animation (let's float to the next enemy and wait for the sword to move again!)

The cutscenes are laughably bad, the game seems to have very close to no AA, and it chugs in spots.

And as you said, twirling the right stick seems to be all I need to wipe out every wave.

Sure for 20 bucks I can see someone purchasing it. I will not because it's not really my type of game. There sure are worse games out there ( like NNN ) but it's not "one of the best games out this year" like Dyack said.

Some impressions; I was generally pleased by the introduction screen ( before pressing start ) with the techno tree-of-life. Although, pressing start will introduce my first gripe with the game.. I do not like the user interface at all; the UI-style is all over the place without any consistency to it, in my opinion. The best part of the UI is the ingame HUD; although it depicts too much information and I wasnt sure which bar was supposed to represent what.

The introduction movie showed some slight framerate problems; especially when there are alot of particle effects (like the snowstorm). I like the art-direction but not so much the animation. The animation does not really seem to do the art any justice.

Controlling the camera is restricted; the camera follows a predefined path. You can center it by pressing a button though. Had no problems with the camera being in an awkward spot or what so-ever; no ninja gaiden here. It made the game feel more cinematic.

Combat felt a bit underwhelming, but that is probably because it is the beginning of the game with not many skills the use. Melee is done with the right analog stick. Pointing both sticks in an enemy his direction will make you dash-attack (which you cant cancel). I ended up dashing from left to right without a feeling of accomplishment due to this.
You can throw enemies up in the air and then shoot at them; which is a fun thing to do, but wasnt quite useful tbh.

You should not consider shooting when you are not locked on to an enemy; found it impossible to aim that way. To get a lock-on, you have to be in a certain distance of the enemy; which kind of renders the guns useless ( not really long range ). But this can be due to the beginning equipment.

The enemies do not seem to 'spawn' out of nowhere, but they crawl from walls and drop from ceilings, which is a nice touch.

Well; these are my impressions so far; going to give it another shot.

I happen to like GTAIV, ALOT, it was alright by me, so I don't get the whole backlash thing.

Well...this has turned out to be absolutely...positively...undeniably...unquestionably the worst piece of shit ever.

...and we, as gamers, are expected to pay $60 for this...

:l :I :) :lol

Edit: Someone please post the goat

Gameplay:

Let's see. In the demo you're given a tab in the main menu which says "Advanced Controls." The "Advanced Controls" essentially consist of a bunch of different movements for the sticks, which, when used in conjunction with each other in different ways, do different things. Now I'm not a pro at action games, but I think I can hold my own when it comes to stringing together combos and using special moves. I tried to use these advanced controls, but every time they just devolved into twirling the stick around while holding the two triggers.

I was really rooting for the game and Dyack, and I hate to say it, but color me disappointed. It's not HORRIFIC by any means, but it really isn't the game Dyack was touting. Not at all.

its not just GAF that thinks GTAIV is bollocks, a lot of places do

If it was made in Poland, wouldn't it be jam-packed with Polish?

Except all the reviewers out there. But of course, ALL THE REVIEWERS were wrong, right?

This is off topic so i'm not going to talk about it anymore. If you have something you really need to get off your chest PM me.

No wonder Denis made the Stand up and Be Counted thread before the demo came out. He wanted to be praised and experience some feelings of validation before people actually got to play Too Human.

do the mods plan on doing that whole tag thing based on review scores?

well, in relation to the hype and bloated 'best game ever' reviews anyway.

51% right now..I am about to leave work and won't be home until around 8 P.M. ...so needless to say I won't be able to play it for quite a while. By that time NeoGAF will be shut down from all the Too Human hate.

After playing the demo for 20 minutes, I must say that it's not going to be very fun writing about this when I wake up.
