I don't see what it matters.

For one, whether him being a douche was revealed by people whom he treated poorly, whether him being a douche was revealed by people politically against him, or whether him being a douche was revealed by accident or chance, I don't see how that changes him being a douche nor do I see any reason to speculate as to which possible reason this was exposed is the valid one.

That said, him being a douche still has no bearing on Wikileaks as a whole.

It's only slightly related to the case since it doesn't contain anything relating to the actual incidents in question and thus only paints a small picture of the man's personality, but not that it was hidden nor does it have a direct bearing on the case as a propensity to do or think one thing doesn't mean a guarantee that he'll do another, even if they're closely related.

Anyways, sure character assassinations are common but they're not always lies, heck they're probably mostly true. People in power are douches, who knew? I did.

When you question if this was politically motivated, where you referring to the intention of the OP or the release of the information itself? Maybe you were referring to the OP and that would be my mistake in misunderstanding you.

I think anytime the eyes of the world are shone on any person, all kinds of crazy shit comes to the surface. A recent example would be that kook O'Donnell. All that information about her nuttiness was out there, just no one had the ambition or interest to dig it all up.

Well... don't forget that some of the people he used to work with quit, because they did not like his methods. I am not sure when they quit, but they are addressing their dislikes of him by making their own leaks site (Openleaks). He clearly has an ego that has affected even some of his own colleagues in a negative way.

But yes, there will be added smear coming and going from all sides and directions at this point.

This a political story.
If nothing else, seeing how people on GAF break down by "party lines" should hint you that it is (even though obviously this not a proof of any sort).

I've been trying to tell the world that Tom Brady is a child molester for quite a while, without much success.

But pretty-boy cheaters aside, a smear campaign is a much harder thing to pull than you think, people say crazy libelous shit on the tubes all day, but getting broad traction still requires old media support (as the wikileaks effort itself proved).

FFS, '"the internets" couldn't even pin stuff on crazy fucknuts like Hal Turner.

I still don't get what it matters, if the smear is true so what? Are you suggesting that people should avert their eyes from truthful smears when they're conveniently, or inconveniently timed depending on your perspective, out of some kind of fairness?

Of course, I'm not saying everything here about Assange is true, I don't know but I am confident he is a douche and while that may be convenient to the US for me to know now, so what? Would Assange offer the US that same courtesy? Would he offer me that courtesy?

Out of curiosity Chichikov do you support the Wikileaks concept? If yes then so long as something is the truth why would you care about the timing? Or is it that everyone likes secrets that suit them, Assange was no different, not wanting to reveal his address in court but willing to publicize all other kinds of shit, everyone's a hypocrite. Where am I going with this? I dunno.

Well, have you viewed the ending of that Wikileaks documentary? Have you listened to what the people who are starting Openleaks have said? Have you read any articles of what they said about this situation? I have, as have many here. I suggest you do so yourself.

I said I did not know why the Wikileaks people quit, because other that what they have said, I would be making assumptions.

You seem to be just another person yelling into the wind about bias, without actually looking into the subject matter.

How is he being persecuted? The guy was a suspected ego-maniac and creeper and these findings help to confirm people's suspicions. This is no different than what happens to Rush Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Bill Clinton, Britney Spears, or any number of other public figures who throw themselves into the spotlight and open up their personal lives to criticism. Assange's motivations should be scrutinized, especially given some people's unquestioning support of his actions. Anyone claiming the right to wield that kind of power, who also claims to be above the law, needs to be dissected and displayed for what they really are.

First, his motivations should absolutely not be scrutinized because it's irrelevant to the information released and a complete and total distraction to what we should be discussing.

Second, what kind of power are you even referring to? The internet? Freedom of information? When did Julian claim to be above the law? And what laws are you specifically referring to?

Assange if an egomaniacal prick, but apparently that is what is required to take on the empire. Even if he did everything he did to get some play, it does not fucking matter, and the fact that people think it does makes their thought process beyond all levels of myopia I'm familiar with.


Edit: I also love the delicious irony* of the OP busting out ad hominem in a thread containing the title it does. (*not literal irony, but society's lexiconical abused version of irony.)

Are you being dense on purpose? I am referring to the US government's attempt to criminally prosecute Assange and Sweden's likely complicity in it. "Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday vowed to examine every statute possible to bring charges against Assange, including some that have never before been used to prosecute a publisher." What is difficult to understand?
 
It seems most people either hate him or love him.

I don't see why so many people on the Internet love every single thing he does though.
