Punk's ability to adapt though is amazing.

When he turned heel on Jeff, it was so slow and great. He was a heel because he beat Jeff. He grew resentful towards Jeff. Then he started pointing out everything wrong with Jeff, and how he, himself, doesn't have those flaws because he was straight edge. He was preaching to the crowd but he was still a face, wanting their admiration.

Then as time passed, he became a flat out heel. Generic almost, but his mic skills kept him above anyone. The Straight Edge Society was a good vehicle for him to just TALK. Things like Royal Rumble 2010 were really great stuff from Punk. The cult leader atmosphere he brought to himself, and even USED in the ring (where he'd say he'd accept someone in the straight edge society and then hit them) and the putting the right hand to the television screen... all good.

After SES, that's when I think Punk was losing some belief in his own career. The stuff with Nexus and Cena started off great, taking his preacher character to the masses but it fumbled because they had no faith in him. Some people liked his Orton feud and thought the matches were good but I didn't personally.

Now, he's a similar character to his heel one, but he isn't just saying he was wronged, he's brought to the surface that he IS wronged. From his chance at the top star spot to the title he rightfully won, he wasn't getting the respect he deserved. His grand entrance back in the company with his title, is him MAKING himself the star. He's a renegade star.

All this time, he's been changing his look too. From the long hair, to the beard, to the bald, to the short hair, to the blonde hair, to the slicked back greaser look. From the black hoodies, to the stupid Punk shirts, to the stupid Nexus/Punk shirts, finally to the first decent piece of merch WWE has ever put out.

Punk is great because when he changes his look, it isn't just the color of his fucking shirt.
Although I don't like the allusion, this is another thing that he and Chris Jericho have in common.

While it'd be interesting if he kept Tyler Durdening, I don't think it's going to be the same. At the very least his days of helping stables lose until they all get injured or fired are behind him.
Yeah, those days are over unless the ROH stable idea will come into fruition. But, if anything he is a GREAT mouthpiece to the stables.

Also, I wonder why it took so long for WWE to realize that a PG rating does allow a level of cursing and a bit more sexual tendencies. I guess they had to test the grounds somehow; some fans will be thrilled to get what they're getting and think PG is over but then they'll finally realize (if/when the writing goes downhill), that the rating wasn't the problem.

Compare it to Orton.

Orton - Heel. Bad guy. Kills legends.
- Heel. Bad guy. No more legends, kills faces, wants title.
- Sadistic heel. No more faces, kills families (admittedly, kind of cool, and the anti-authority thing they first pushed for, but Orton is not Austin even though they want him to be).
- Heel. Leads stable of next generation, like he was in. Historical heel?
- Face because his finisher is cool and his excited mannerisms weren't that heelish.
- Face that just wants the title and is super corny other than some of his mannerisms and his flash finisher.

Does Orton even have shirts? I think they're ones with snakes on them. I think. They probably are. He probably doesn't even care what it looks like. His look has gone from long curly hair to short hair to bald to horrible looking beard? Nothing drastic and nothing of character importance. His wife probably just likes his shitty beard.

I'm gonna be watching it in 3D. It's about ten dollars more expensive, but it'll be worth it!

Anyone have a free shipping or discount code for wweshop.com?

Been looking for the same. $5 to ship one shirt is a bit much, I'd even spend more and get a Ryder one if I needed a higher total to get free shipping. I'm silly like that.

The kid has already figured out WWE booking, too, apparently.

I wonder if Vince saw that, looked at his writers, and went "Why the hell am I paying you?"

I mean, that kid NAILED it, and it hadn't even happened yet.

I would love to but I will be out tonight. I haven't watched EVOLVE since 5 but I need to catch up. I love this fed.

Just purchased Punk's new shirt from WWEshop.com because I didn't fancy waiting three months for WWEEuroshop to get it in stock and sell it to me at a more expensive price. Let's see how good WWE's international shipping is, keeping in mind the shirt officially released early next month.

The Miz is #1 in this year's PWI 500. Did we go over this yet?

To stir the pot, I will offer a simple opinion.

I feel he deserves one of the top spots, possibly even #1. He has done very well.

Damn, I'm really tempted to order a CM Punk t-shirt, but I'm going to Minneapolis in late August.. Does anybody know any stores that sell WWE merch at the Mall of America?

Hasn't the PWI list always been boarderline 'kayefabe' based anyway, going off their wins, and title reigns, etc. Rather than who's actually the best.

Yeah, the PWI list is a strange mix of kayfabe, wrestling ability and drawing power. None of these lists ever seem to reflect pure wrestling ability.

He would still be entitled to a rematch, because it's the belt that's currently in WWE's possession and therefore the one that operates under their contract rules.

On another note, it will be interesting to see how well WWE can carry the momentum of Punk's tweener, anti-hero character. Orton was getting similar levels of support at the end of his heel run and into his face run, when he was still basically the same vicious sociopath... just beating up heels instead of faces.

But once the kids caught on to who the grownups were cheering, his character was simplified and limited to a generic babyface, minus some semi-psychotic mannerisms and a few head-punts.

What's their criteria? Miz is pretty well rounded, and he had a good year on the mic, but in the last third of that year he's been getting more and more samey, which should cost spots on this list. In the ring, he's nothing stellar (but nothing terrible).

From what little I've seen of him, this Steen fellow should probably have ranked higher. Perhaps I'll cement this opinion at the Evolve show tonight.

Punk is pretty great, but I imagine his Big Recent Moment happened too late to figure into this list.

Both shows are actually going really well right now.

Christian vs. Orton has been a great feud.

Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan are both getting over with the crowd.

Sheamus and Barrett seem to be on the verge of a STIFF feud.

Really, the only downside to SD is Mark Henry continuing to get air-time. But there are people out there immediately impressed by size, so hey, if they get behind the notion of the big scary black guy, so be it.

Christian can't be Orton cleanly.. that is what pisses me off...The feud is going no where..Because of Super Orton

I reckon they'll bring back Taker to feud with him. With Kane and Big Show out of the picture, Taker is the most logical opponent. However, I think it'll be a boring feud as we've seen it before and both men are on the verge of dropping down dead or retiring.

That's the entire point of the feud. All the matches have been competitive and back and forth. It's not like he's burying Christian. Tommy Dreamer never beat Raven either and it still was a great feud.

I see HBK and Y2J share a similar mindset.

If something isn't working, work on it to fix it. Make everyone look good at what they do and have a great match.

I respect them for that. I suspect that among the younger guys at the moment trying to claw their way past the glass ceiling, many of them don't have someone around all the time (who is approachable) to work things out like that.

I was just kidding. SD is pretty good in its own right. I also like Henry's angry black man gimmick because of so many .gif worthy moments.

Am I alone in thinking a sober, clear thinking Scott Hall could help out these young guys a LOT.

Prepared for incoming drinking/drug comments. But seriously, what do you all think about that?

IMO he could benefit the young talent that need that little bit extra, like a Ziggler, or Danielson, maybe Bourne, Swagger, Gabriel. Whether it's promo help or maybe psychology, the man seems to have a good mind for the business when he's clean.
