Jurassic World Official Trailer

Honest, non-snarky question:

What kind of movie did people think a new JP was going to be? I would wager that any plot would have made you nauseated just because "sequel".

How were they genetically modified? I only saw the first one and that never come up.

Frog DNA.
Lycieum dependent.
And if we're going by the book, modded so they are hairless.

I just remembered Universal originally offered the lead role to Josh Brolin. I could definitely see Brolin being able to pull off some of those lines with more gravitas than Pratt manages.

But that final shot in the trailer was disastrous. What were Universal thinking?! While some of the VFX work in that trailer can be explained away by it still being 'early' some of their creative choices in that trailer are just plain horrible.

Seven months out from release, and every one just can't help but shit on the CGI. It's like you people never fucking learn. All visual fx shots in trailers are works in progress, and do not represent in any way how it'll look in the final cut. This is going to look better in the end, and you'd be a complete fool to believe otherwise with ILM in charge. I honestly don't understand why letting these threads devolve into a OMG unfinished CGI shitshow is still allowed, it adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.

This is going to be another Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and gaf will dine on crow once again.

It's been explained over and over again about the unfinished CGI (shit, the film just finished filming not too long ago), but those posts get lost in the bullshit.

...are you kidding? It's a major plot point.
Was it?

Please refresh my memory.

Fuck, I don't remember that at all.

.

Why would you release a trailer with less than impressive CGI? Somewhere out there Stan Winston is crying.

They needed to fill in damaged DNA strands, so they used the DNA of Frogs. This caused some Dino species to be able to be able to change their sex and reproduce which is something frogs are able to do whenever they is only one gender present.

Fuck, I don't remember that at all.

The Lycieum one is a throw-away line (even though it's a pretty damn important peice of information), and while they do mention it in JP2, it's simply so they can retcon it in the most facepalmy way possible:

"Oh, they don't eat plants with Lycieum in it."

Never brought up again.

While yes, you are correct people can only believe what is put in front of them. The studio presents this as their product, what do you think people will assume from this? That this is the product that they want to sell.

If Universal were smarter (and given the creative choices made in the trailer it's doubtful) they would have released a trailer with less unfinished/unpolished VFX shots or with shots that were worked on for the trailer and thus would have been further down the work flow.

Looks like chris pratt will be allied with the raptors to fight that carnotaur or whatever that is. Wonder which side will the mosasaur take?

Wait. Wait. If the source of the DNA is blood in mosquitoes preserved in amber, how did they get the DNA of aquatic animals?

It's the dinosaur equivalent of Switzerland vowing to stay neutral and manning the gift shop while the others are running for their lives.

You don't think aquatic dinosaurs never came up for fresh air?
They don't have gills, they'd have to periodically resurface to take deep breaths, and would just like many cetaceans spend plenty of time by the surface.

Or it was just geneengineered from scratch, based on what they thought it would look like.

This isn't even close to a plot point.

On the official site they talk about important dig sites in the Arctic glaciers.

I bet they got the DNA from dead, frozen dinosaurs.

But it's not nearly as bad as some movies in the past that had really bad CGI. Some of the shots in the Guardians trailer were pure shit and yet it ended up being one of the biggest films of the year.

I remember some horribly unfinished, like blatantly, in the Episode 1 trailer, but I don't remember anyone bitching about the CGI. They were just glad they were getting another Star Wars. Kind of like how some of us are just happy they're doing another Jurassic Park.

If you willingly have no expectation of quality then what do you care what people think about the state of the VFX in the trailer?

The trailer is horrible. The general reaction seems to be negative. But if all you wanted was another Jurassic Park movie then you've won already! :)

Much like me and Jupiter Ascending. Studio confidence is low and it's being quietly sent to February for release just like Robocop and Green Hornet before it. But I'm not the one paying for it and I'm actually excited for the film so, as far as I'm concerned, it's all good.

Those scene comparisons are way off base, they're not even close in terms of their ridiculousness or execution.

It's too early to make such a definitive statement either way given that this is just the first trailer for the film.

But we can say that within the context of the trailer that shot with Pratt is cringe worthy.
