Honestly I think dialogue indeed often sounds like shit in a lot of trailers. It's something I've noticed more and more, and it's probably not just a recent thing but simply a sense of heightened awareness. They'll pop in jokes or one-liners which gives too much attention to them and usually more attention than the final edit gives, and there are generally instances in which different takes are used altogether.

I do agree that some of the lines in the teaser were kind of dull; nothing that bothers me I guess because I'm obviously more forgiving than some (and I don't mean that in a negative way toward my tastes but just rather how ultra negative others can be so I'm forgiving by comparison), but I do hope some of those lines have different takes in the final cut or are removed period.

I thought mostly everything apart from "Depends on whatever dinosaur they cooked up in that lab" was fine, and the "she'll kill anything that moves" monologue was obviously just put in the trailer to hype up how scary the hybrid is. Of course some of these lines and takes could be in the final cut unaltered, but I'm not too worried yet. Most of the other lines/deliveries in the teaser seemed okay to me.
 
Interested in how good...or terrible dialogue and simple interactions are between the cast. The interactions and viewpoints from JP1 was actually one of the things I really did enjoy on the same level of the dinosaur action. If that makes sense.


I'm talking mainly the Dinner scene and the Flea Circus talk later on.

Its a little hammy looking back on some of it, but it still worked well with the rest of the film

Not only are those great moments, they feel real and give the film weight and substance. It's exactly what 2, 3 and I bet World will lack, actual emotion and quality weighted feelings.
 
The flea circus exchange was fantastic but Laura Dern is super shit in that scene, and some of her lines like "you never had control, THAT'S the illusion" were really bad. I could probably point out many other problems/flaws in the original but I don't choose to do that as it would be dishonest in relation to my overall love and appreciation for it. That's why I'm not flipping tables over a few corny or badly-delivered lines in this teaser.

There isn't a self-aware or ironic bone in Jurassic Park, and plays everything straight. It has a old world silver screen era feel to it, right down to the perfect, literary dialogue that no normal person would say, and that's a large part of what made that movie so iconic. That was The Lost World's biggest departure, changing the tone to be much more cynical and looking at itself as a big dumb movie about people getting eaten by dinosaurs.

I can't think of a single line in Jurassic Park that was embarrassing or delivered shittily imo.

It's true that the characters in JP1 and even JP2 didn't have growing arcs, and are definitely not character-focused; but many of them were extremely memorable because of how well they were written. They had thin character descriptions but they brought them to life with acting and delivery -- since the majority of the film is actually talking. Didn't help that the quality of actors dropped with every sequel lol

Yea the whole "NOW THAT POWER IS OUT THERE" line always made me cringe in that dialogue

But I do agree with Superflat on how it playing everything straight is the charm to it all. That is probably the best way to put it. The characters, dialogue, actions just...went with it.

With the SW prequels I didn't mind it so much because of Lucas' creative drive and vision being really hard to accomplish and pull off without so much of it, but for Crystal Skull it felt like they just CG'd the fuck out of everything that they could just for the sake of it.

Like I said, still enjoyed it though. I liked the story enough, the score was excellent as usual, the action scenes were fun to me, and it just had a very fun, light-hearted vibe to it which I dig.

The game is definitely full of fan service...even down to dropping minor references to Sarah Harding, Peter Ludlow, the lysine contingency, etc. But it felt like the people who made it really loved JP, not just pandering to fans. It really felt like an extension of the first movie's version of the park. There's plenty of cheesy moments in the game too, don't get me wrong. But in any case, I definitely agree that this new movie is not afraid to forge its own identity...hopefully that will be a good one.

Re: Crystal Skull, I don't want to hijack the thread, but it's refreshing to hear that someone else enjoyed it.

Rewatching the trailer, I think my favorite scene is the mosasaur. Do we know how they managed to get the DNA for sea creatures like that yet?

It's probably mine as well. I'm more impressed with that scene the more times I watch it.

I wondered about that, but I guess the DNA doesn't have to be exclusively from mosquitos. I don't know how, but I wonder if it's possible that ancient DNA could come from elsewhere.

No idea. A friend just alerted me to something an extra said somewhere though:

I will give you guys a tidbit though, now that the trailer is out... Some shots you see in the trailer were specifically shot for the trailer (IE: the Mosasaurus scene, the gate opening, the river cruise, the "main street" scene, etc.) and not the actual film. Some of what you see won't even be in the finished product, hence why some CG looks more complete than others in the trailer. The PA's told a few of us which shots were for the trailers only.

Figures, and totally believable. It can sometimes be really surprising how much you see in a trailer that's not even in the final film. I definitely think people should relax at least until we get the full trailer closer to release.
 
Sure it was talked about but found it interesting how different the Leaked Trailer with unfinished CG was in tone and just about everything.

It's such a faster pace, park shows up THEN BOOM

Raptor "Training" with Pratt, Henry Wu, Clearly shows someone dying from the hybrid, machine guns, and just about a quick but full body shot of the hybrid. With even more of the Hybrid shown in the trailer. Plus the Pteradons on the Helicopter. and another scene with the hybrid

I know i'm late to the party on all of that but just found it really interesting the amount of changes. Glad we got what we did though. Much enjoyed the build rather than all in you face from the get go.

It's very plausible. The majority of the scenes were panning establishing shots, and I could see a bunch of them being pretty b-roll CG tests. I'd be surprised if the Mosasaurus scene doesn't exist in some form in the final film though.

Oh the Mosasaur scene will totally be in the final film. Just maybe not those particular shots. I think it'll be very similar though.

Yeah, the leaked footage made the movie seem more action packed. Less kids in the park, more excitement and action

I think people are being too hard on the kids already. That wrecked gyrosphere tells me that we're going to get a sequence where the kids are out stranded after all hell breaks loose and they get attacked while inside of it. It's a small, clear spherical vehicle so they're totally exposed. I think that could lead to an extremely gratifying scenario.

But of course the movie will be action packed. Despite being a teaser trailer it hinted at a lot of action. The wrecked gyrosphere, the Japanese security dude out in the jungle being stalked/hunted Muldoon-style, Pratt on the motorcycle with the raptor pack, Bryce with the flare, the kids jumping off the cliff into the river, god knows what they'll do with the Mosasaur, everything involving the hybrid which will surely get plenty of action...

Not too worried on the action front. Not by a long shot. If anything I think people will bitch about the amount of action in it.

Having rewatched the first movie last night, it's ironic that people are complaining about the kids when Tim and Lex were involved in the best scenes in JP. The jeep attack, the jeep crashing down the tree, them hiding from the raptors in the kitchen.

I'm not worried about action either. Was just agreeing that the leaked footage was way more action heavy than what was in the trailer

No doubt. The first act will be about introducing the new park, following Simpkins' character as through his eyes we get that sense of wonder, but then his brother and other visitors may not be as thrilled about the dinosaurs as he is; he's not cynical like they are and still represents that sense of wonder so that we can find the new park just as interesting and amazing as he does. We'll also be introduced to Pratt and Howard's characters and probably the whole subplot involving the raptors and I'm sure there will be discussions about the should's and shouldn't's of genetic tampering.

The rest of it will be the park being terrorized, the kids being attacked in the sphere, Pratt/Howard going out to find the kids (hence them finding the wrecked gyro), the Japanese hunter guy going after the hybrid and getting decimated, likely a scenario involving the Mosasaur, but by and large the second half will probably be about destroying the hybrid which should lead to a lot of action especially concerning that leaked footage.

I also think that
when the kids are attacked in the gyro, it forces them really far into the jungle and when Pratt and Bryce go to find them they end up in Jurassic Park, where the final showdown with the hybrid will take place
 
The trailer feels very generic and makes me think the movie will be rather generic :( I was expecting more from a legacy franchise.
 
So I wonder if when the characters go into the
Restricted area, if we will not only see remains of stuff from JP1 but stuff that was technically in Jurassic Park that didn't make it into the movie.
An aviary like JP3's, the River Cruise, the power plant, northern docks as well as the marine facility.
Visitor Center is likely demolished as it was south of the restricted area.
 
So about the glass ball car thingy. How exactly would something like that actually be functional? It appears there are ball bearings on the metal frame that explains how the cab and glass rotate independently from each other easy enough, but what is actually gripping and driving the glass around it? Also, let's say that part gets answered, then how exactly does the smooth glass on the outside grip anything? Wouldn't it just spin in place?

She's still 100x that of fucking Dallas Bryce Howard who seems to only make like 2 facial expressions so far.

Something seems really off about her in this movie. I think it may be the hair :P

I think it has potential. I really wasn't down on the trailer until I popped into this thread. When watching it I was very excited until I heard 'genetically modified hybrid', but then I realized it wasn't going to be a raptor/human sci-fi hybrid. Hybrids can happen in alligators, snakes, and many other animals through cross-breeding anyway (although genetic splicing and natural breeding isn't the same thing), so a Raptor/T-Rex hybrid or whatever isn't that unbelievable once you think about it.

I loved the art direction, especially the new park's design. The thing I'm most concerned about is that everyone involved with making this movie will try their best to make something memorable and will ultimately fail regardless. It just happens.
 
Does anyone have a link/full rundown of the leaked footage? I keep hearing this mentioned but I've yet to find anything solid on it, especially in the wake of the full trailer clogging up anything JP related in search engines loL

How was it originally planned for Grant and co to escape them? The raptors seemed to have them pretty dead to rights.

tbh, this TLW trailer is the GOAT JP trailer. God, can anything be more hyped up? It just seemed so dark and fucking crazy.


Unrelated but I'm surprised none of the movies have yet to bring back the dilophosaurus. I get there's only so many carnivore "slots" they can stuff in and still give us ample Raptor/Rex time but I'd love to see them return in some capacity, even if it's just a quick flash in a montage with them spitting venom at park visitors against protective class lol.

I also wouldn't mind new seeing stuff from the games and toys like tanystropheus or deinosuchus and the carno as Ive whined about multiple times already lol.
 
I'm so pumped for this. Not really all that worried about quality.

When Jurassic Park movies are great, they're really great. When Jurassic Park movies are bad, they're still pretty great.

I get thinking the trailer and therefore the movie will suck.

But this sitting around a blazing fire drinking some wine and discussing things bullshit is just stupid.
 
Does no one remember the mundane nature of a natural preserve without getting up and close? Like the dilo part in and the goat part in jp1.


It has always been a slasher/suspense driven series.

Y'all just have a huge nostalgic paddock you need to get over. That, and the whimsy of late '80's Spielberg is apparently obvious. It's only when shit went bad that we got up close to the dinos.

B) Over-reliance on CGI and random kids + lack of Nedry/Malcolm/Grant type people (going by the trailer) equals: CAUTION.

A + B = a somewhat emotionally conflicted dino and JP fan...



(I'd go see the movie anyway in all probability, if only out of curiosity and because it offers a critical look at our actual theme parks such as Water World.)
 
They had the abandoned jeeps on set, and Wu and others are yet to be announced.


It's a first trailer of a movie that will release in 6+ months!

You forgot to include the involvement of Stan Winston Studios and ILM in your equation...
 
A dumb thing in JP1 is why would they have the docks accessible to tour areas? Why did Nedry have to go through the gate? And why would the tour cars go back? Shouldn't they be double timing it through the park?


All this because JP has always been an action/suspense/horror film. It's only Spielberg and co who meddled.

Gee, the lack of humility before cinema that's being displayed here, uh... staggers me.

If I may... Um, I'll tell you the problem with the filmmaking principles that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain them. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you wanna sell it. Your studio executives were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should!

What's so great about yet another sequel? It's a violent, penetrative act that scars what it imitates. What you call a "summer blockbuster," I call the rape of the cinema world.
