No kidding. Everything looks so legitimate. Guess they took the legitimacy budget out of CGI and put it into props.

This has got to be a record of the most realized non-real theme park.

Call me a capitalist pig, but I love the existing brands tying in with the Jurassic World park, and it's meta to see Jurassic World toys on the shelves of a fictional Jurassic World souvenir store.

I jumped when I saw a Ben and Jerry's in one of the pictures, advertising Fossil Fuel (it's been discontinued as far as I know). Bring it back!!!!

That's what makes it feel so real. I was throwing these in the post and slowing convincing myself that Jurassic World existed.

please

If this came out when I was a kid, I would lose my shit because it'd be a fantasy come true.

I love the flavor texts that describe the attractions in the park. Well done and believable, with a reference or two.

I'd love a piping hot Dino Dog. Or do I? Where's the Churro-nosaurus Rex?

Thanks, I didn't know about that. If it was published in 1988 and had feathered dinos even back then, then the films have ignored this fact since the beginning, eh? :P (I know it wasn't nearly as widespread back then)

No, because back in 1988, it was purely speculation. Real fossils with feathers were discovered in 1996 or so. The Lost World came out in 1997, and chances are they didn't have the time or the technology to add it. Not to mention it was still just one dinosaur back then. JP3 actually went and updated their Raptors, and by that time, we had more and more fossils of different dinosaurs with feathers. The entire clade of coelurosauria now has evidence of feathers (this clade includes Gallimimus, Velociraptor and Tyrannopsaurus). The last missing evidence came a year or two ago.

That's been the issue that still hasn't been resolved for me though, even the deinonychus was roughly 3 feet in height; nowhere near the size of the raptors in the film. I think the Utahraptor discovered later JP was the only one near the movie raptor size, if not a good bit larger.

The book says their Velociraptors were mongolensis so they're from Mongolia. It just so happens there's a 6 foot tall Mongolian "raptor" call Achillobator. It's the perfect size.

I'll take a rack of Brontosaurus ribs, just like The Flintstones.

How is this NOT a real park?!

If the amount of effort put into making the park look real is indicative of the amount of heart put into the movie, we're in good shape.

Ha, I had one of those similar JP cups with the dino head when I was younger, possibly from TLW, can't remember. There's something fundamentally exciting about dinosaurs, hoping they can capture that in JW.

Which is also, like the Utahraptor, clearly not a Velociraptor. So if anyone wants to make this canon, the scientists in the book/film had to have made a mistake?

JP3 did a laughable job with its feathers though.

It's like a shaved dog with a mohawk.

People are complaining about the kids in the trailer, but I wouldn't mind just a good 30 minutes of world building with them exploring the park. Interspersed with the whole Pratt/hybrid plot, but it would be nice to see the park come alive.

I guess I'll never understand the "Butthurt" (best word I could think of) regarding the whole "feathers" thing.

This isn't a reboot of Jurassic Park. It takes place in the same universe. To have the Dinosaurs suddenly sprout feathers would be inconsistent at the least.

Unfortunately we seem doomed to have the same "sourpusses" who will keep coming into these threads to keep harping on it over and over.

Does the dinos not having feathers really damage your potential enjoyment of the movie? Like really, something that superficial?

Do you hate The Dark Knight because Batman doesn't have a yellow emblem on his suit?

All things aside, nothing can be as stupid as the Boat in Lost World. Some how a Trex manages to merc an entire crew.
There was a scene that was planned but never filmed, a raptor escaped and killed everyone. But of course never filmed so you're left with a massive plot hole

That would make much more sense. I always just assumed that somehow the baby infiltrated the ship :/ No way could daddy fit his head through the tiny rooms!

The website is great, the amount of detail put into it gives me hope for the film

The mock website is FAR better promotional material than the trailer, that's for damn sure. My hype is starting to take off.

Also, looked up some of the dinosaurs I didn't recognize featured on the page which may or may not be spotlit in the film:

-Metriacanthosaurus - A large bipedal carnivore between the size of an Allosaur and a Acrocanthosaurus, so between 8-12 feet tall-ish, making it larger than a raptor but smaller than a rex. Metriacanthosaurus appeared as one of the dinosaur embryos shown when Dennis Nedry was heisting them in JP1.

-Strangely, no Spinosaurus listed, but there's a Baryonyx and Suchomimus, both from the same Spinosaurid genus, but notably smaller than the Spinosaurus. However, there appears to be a Spinosaurus skeleton on display in the park.

The photos of the park are weird, there are way too many adults.

Why frog DNA? This has always been problem for me. This film take place several years in the future and if they know dinosaur like us than they would switch to bird dna by now

Only a certain species of Therapods became birds. If you used bird DNA, you would be having trouble filling the gaps for all the Sauropods.

Genetic hybrid dinosaurs? Holy fuck.

This has a zero percent chance of being anything other than complete dogshit. Calling it now.

It's strange how ideas or aesthetics that aren't to someone's liking can supposedly ruin whole movies instead of, you know, actual elements of filmmaking; which we can't judge yet because there's precious little of it shown.

I'm not convinced either way -- I'm optimistic. But at the same time I'm not saying it's going to be an amazing film because not all the signs are there.

I didn't notice till now that there's a clear image of a Mosasaurus in one of the promotional metro square thingies. Unfortunately it's cut off :T

So just guessing by the website numbers but it seems like the Park is built in a way to accommodate 40,000 visitors?

I guess that falls in line with average attendance numbers for amusement parks like Disneyland. But with all the high tech security and such that must take millions per day to keep the place running.

Man, you really hate this movie.

Did you call Spielberg a hack over the small, venomous Dilophosaur?

I hate this movie the same way this movie hates paleontologists.

Also, seems like very few people understood why Crichton made a venomous Dilphosaurus. It's there to show how unpredictable nature is. It's something not preserved in the fossil record. He also choose Dilphosaurus because it had weak jaws. This is creative and fits with what the story is about.

Jurassic World says fuck it because... reasons.

Coming soon to a TRU near you! What's awesome is that looks like the original Kenner packaging, too!

I await the merch for this movie...

Couldn't help but notice this in the background of the store

Looks like a "feathered" raptor from JP3. Did they repurpose promotional cardboard stands lol?

Jurassic Park is not a film about the Jewish holocaust or the Atlantic slave trade. And it is not a documentary about dinosaurs. Its a fun action adventure franchise. There is no antagonism or indecency or harm to society in not making everything perfectly accurate.

Yeah, the film totally hates paleontology. Or maybe it just wants to be a entertaining movie. In the end, dinosaurs have not been accurate since movie ONE, and it this is going to follow suit. At some point it's moot to argue that one is slightly more informed and accurate than another when every entry has glaring inaccuracies in favor of something more dramatic/aesthetically pleasing.

Chrichton took a fuckload of liberties with the creatures.

Didn't they state it was an adolescent? Or couldn't we just go with that?

Yeah in the film when Nedry encounters it he said something a long the lines of he though it was one of it's bigger brothers or something.

I don't know if that means the dilophosaurus he encounters was a juvenile or maybe he just meant "not as big as the other dinosaurs"

I'm going with it was a juvenile/adolescent

The photos of the park are weird, there are way too many adults.

What's wrong like this? Single adults I'm sure would love to check it out, and even Disneyland is always packed with adults.

(I'm an adult going to that Walking with Dinos animatronics show... :x)

Edit: Any idea for a full OT on the movie?

I always took it to mean the latter. I don't think Nedry of all people would have made that kind of distinction, especially considering his circumstances. Besides if he knew how dangerous a Dilophosaur was he'd have known to get the hell away from it fast.

To be honest this is probably my biggest disappointment about the movie. Why not go with the times?

If that's the biggest disappointment then you're in a good place because that aspect has zero bearing on whether or not the film will be well-made :D

I don't have a horse in the race on the topic other than the film can do as it feels appropriate. If having 6 spikes stick out of a Velociraptor's head to vaguely resemble feathers is what the director wanted to do, sure, why not. They could all start growing fur if that's what paleontology declares. But I do think that film continuity is a perfectly valid reason to keep the same aesthetic from the previous JP movies, since it's in the same universe.

I would assume Nedry has next to zero dinosaur knowledge (aside from knowing better than to shut power from the raptor pen), so he's talking about "big brothers" as in raptors and t-rex. He tried to make it fetch a stick for goodness sake lol.

The Dilophasaur shown in JP being a smaller adolescent can be a valid excuse, though when they show the Dilophosaur area earlier in the film when the jeeps roll by it, the fence looked quite flimsy and the fence height was low.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it makes sense for his character to be completely clueless in that regard.

Yeah, seeing that fence does make it seem like the Dilophosaurus we see in the film is classed as an adult.

Are those scars from when the raptor jumped on and attacked it at the end of the first movie?

Crazy detail if so

It looks like it, the scars on it's neck and along it's jaw are in line with when it was reaching around to grab it off it's neck and pulling it into it's jaws.
