Just Cause 2 Demo Impressions - 360/PS3/PC

Oh wow, maxed out FOV makes for some insane views. I can max everything to ridiculous levels and not drop a frame now with a 30fps cap, excellent work. Game plays perfectly fine at 30fps, doesn't feel like it needs 60fps really.

Oh nice at the pc patch optimizations. I'll load it back up today when I get home. :D

This is a steamworks game, right? I hope so, because I have a 10 dollar credit from God of War 3 I want to use on the PC version.

Yes.

Pics with tweaked settings/FOV:

Just Cause 2 was just updated on Steam:
Helicopter controls functional when re-entering a spinning helicopter in mid-air.

Woohoo! I'm not playing on PC, but sounds like a good sign that this will be included in the full game!

I messed around with some of the settings. I find that with increased FOV, I'm able to play with the kb/m! (the pictures that follow are 2.0 and I don't think I'll go that far when I actually play)

Other than FOV at 2.0, the edge stuff is off as is the grain.

I will do the OP. Are there folks who can whip up some cool JC2 icons? Also let's get a good title going. Let's have this be an awesome OP so name sone things you want in it besides the obvious.

We certainly need some .gifs, there's plenty in this thread but I could make a few more from videos.

I'll try and whip up some Icon graphics in the same theme as Beardz's sweet banner.

infinite... parachute... generator..

Come on, you can spawn like 50 chutes in the span of 7 seconds!
That's the point. Also, it would suck if you just completed an awesome stunt and you kiss the ground because you don't have any more parachutes left.

Played 360 and PS3 demo, both ran pretty great but If I'm not mistaken it looked sharper on the 360, I'll probably get that version tuesday afternoon.

The scope is simply amazing.

I'm saying that it would be a good Official Thread title. It's the best thing about the game in my opinion and the easiest way to see how seriously it takes itself (to massive benefit).

Okay, made some basic Icons, design suggestions are welcome but for Titles a simple design is better IMO. (Edit) Seeing them now though, they might be a little too big.

Are there any awesome video moments that haven't been GIF'd yet? If anyone has any requests post the video and time.

My bad, thought you asked something else.

Sorry if it's a repost but I thought I'd just let you all know that according to CAG, KMART will be selling the 360/PS3 versions for $44.99 day one.
This pretty much seals the deal for me, I'll probably get the PS3 version for the Youtube upload feature. Can't wait. :D

I played a little bit today of the demo on Steam. Opening cinema is too dark for some reason, but the game runs really well on high settings @ 1280x1024 resolution. Will play more later.

any word on which version to get
Xbox360 or PS3 ?

PS3 has the ability to record replays and upload them to youtube. Some tech site said the PS3 version also has a slightly better framerate.

However, after playing both versions of the demo, I'm going with the 360 SKU because I can't stand using the triggers on the DS3 to shoot or especially if I use the alternate grapple on them.

I'm a bit confused on how you're supposed to "clear" villages. You're supposed to blow up anything that has the white and red star on it right? I blew up the water tower, the gas station and the propaganda van in the first village right under your starting base. I still only had a 74% completion on the village though.

What else are you supposed to blow up? I ran around that thing for the entire demo time, and couldn't figure it out.

Anyone have any other gifs besides the ones posted? I am preparing the official thread and would love to have more than just the 4 posted here.

When are you thinking of launching the thread?

Working on it right now. Will have it done later tonight or tomorrow.

really amazed at their continued support for the demo, great company and im glad I purchased... now come on release day!

Couldn't agree more, was expecting a poor product, but wow! This game is truly intense! It might actually take me aways for s few days from my sf4 addiction ;)!

Oh, there's a bunch of other commandline options you can play about with as well, just simply right click on the link in Steam and enter these under "Set Launch options" seperated by a single space:

I highly recommend disabling the film grain, as well as trying out the other AO implementation

Certainly nice to have the option, either way, especially for anyone with an Eyefinity setup.

Thanks for the command options! Do you know if they save once you close the game or do you have to keep enabling and disabling them?

You need to both blow up all the government stuff, and collect all the weapon/vehicle/armor upgrade boxes. Usually there's one or two boxes that take ages to find, especially in a big military base or something.

Yeah- Killing civilians and blowing up their buildings can be fun, but apparently gains you no points.

You just enter them in through the Steam interface and they'll save just fine. You can go in and alter them whenever you want. At the very least I'd say most should use the film grain toggle, cutscenes look crappy with it enabled.

in the options you can change to R1 L1.

There is an indicator on the top left of the GPS that shows how close you are to any upgrade boxes. Just follow the indicator until it starts flashing, at which point an icon will appear above the upgrade box or if it is not directly in your field of view a white arrow on the sides of the screen will point you where to look.

Even better then, thought it was an ingame console! Yeah was thinking also of removing the posprocessing effects just because I hate it when the screen gets fuzzy when you turn around!

Thanks again for the info!

PS3 players should pick up those Real Trigger things for L2 & R2.
I just got a pair a few weeks ago @ Best Buy and they're really nice for games that use the back triggers a lot, like Just Case, they feel much more responsive and they don't get accidentally pressed when you set the controller down.

The frame rate limiter helps so I can max out a ton of stuff at 1080P. 30fps feels a little slow at first but I can adjust just fine.

The game holds over 60 for a lot of time, but there are a couple dips in the 30s that would give me nasty slowdown. Now it is all gone.

I tried the max FOV but it seemed too far out for me. Set it in the middle.

Really loved playing through the demo, even after multiple times. The last time I've had this much fun in an openworld game, was with Crackdown, three years ago. And I loved (LOVED) Crackdown. :D

I've told myself I'm not buying much games at all this year (was only planning on picking up Crackdown 2, actually), but I'm sure as hell going to pick this up. Day. One.
