Just Cause 2 Demo Impressions - 360/PS3/PC

Does the grapple hook work with people connected to - say - bikes in order to let them downhill a mountain while exiting the hilarious ongoing with the parachute and whatch the action unrolling from above :) Or say, civilian attached to a canister = free air miles!
Or does the line detach after a short time when people are in play? Seems so, as i wanted to drag somebody (in this case an enemy) with my bike and the line let go off him after like 5 seconds...or didnt i do it correcly? Demo is the SH1T! Haven't spend so much time with a demo yet as far as i can remember...

Seems like it only works with the pickup crates, though, not the destructible stuff. I've had a few times where I've had to hunt down a stray transformer or radar dish.

There's a helicopter up the mountain from the start point near the radio tower that you can use to get around faster.

There's also a way to break the time limit if you find the 30 min too limiting.

Heh. Cool. I guess Ill google it.

I've seen people stay attached to vehicles for some time. Quite hilarious to spook a civilian then attach an enemy to their fleeing vehicle and see them go off into the horizon.

And yeah you can easily attach enemies/civilians to gas canisters and set them off. They stayed tethered until it exploded. See my crappy quality video.

There are just a ton of possibilities in this game.

is there a rocket launcher in the demo?

With PC demo you can find a mod that lets you buy all kinds of stuff off the black market for free, including a rocket launcher.

How do you access the black market anyway? I'm on the console versions.

I haven't found many hidden weapons. I did find the grenade launcher in the town's tower to the south of the starting area, though.

I don't know what button accesses it on consoles, but you need to cause a certain amount of chaos before you can do it.

Whoa, just found the spy hunter car and classic hotrod in the demo. Holy freaking crap, awesome. :O

Sometimes it spawns as a fast luxury car, but sometimes it has a gun rack on top that you can shoot with L1. Man is it crazy good.

The spy-esque car is towards the northwest corner at the gas station.

Freedom, yes. Controls, no. Mapping the run button to the shoulder buttons is stupid.

What? What? Mapping the run button to the face buttons is one of the worst things about GTA. You can't run and move the camera at the same time, which means you can't run and gun. It's a mechanic made impossible by poor control layout, which is ridiculous.

Running and jumping are handled far better in JC2 than GTA4. It also has far better vertical possibilities -- in GTA4, you're basically stuck to the ground, often even when you're surrounded by things that look like they should be able to be climbed.

Just played the demo on my new rig, Phenom X4 955, Sapphire 5770 on Win7. Selected optimal visuals and everything went to the highest settings and it ran great. At least I thought it did. Thank goodness I kept an old wired 360 controller from back in the day, though. Had a lot of fun. The sound was rocking my house, which I found surprising. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the demo.

wait waht? you can sprint in jc2????!!!

how the hell do you do that?

A better question is why would you need to? Just grapple-shooting everywhere is faster.

Whenever I get this I don't think I'm going to do anything on the ground, except driving. I'm just going to do everything up in the air in my parachute.

1) a nice and healthy bullet spray drops an enemy body back in air (-> weight physics)
2) didnt know one could "para(chute)-climb" a hill all the way with grapple hooking

PS: As i am a beginner when it comes to make decent looking gifs with small size, i'd like to know what gif tool you you recommend me. The Gifs turned out to be bigger in megabytes than the avi's they are based on. Somethings wrong, should be the other way around.

I am checking out right now: Easy Gif Animator, Bannershop Gif Animator 5
Why in the hell do those gif animators NOT have a avi-2-giv conversion feature included?
Is there one Gif animator prog around that has all the features one would need?

Back to topic: Had an idea i have yet pull off:
1) Start the plane and keep rolling (or do it at high speeds in air)
2) get out on top of it
3) attach grapple hook to plane + solid ground object = epic braking maneuver?

If you have Photoshop CS3 or CS4, you have a combination of options to optimise the GIF to reduce the file size. Photoshop can open .avi and .mov files, which you can then save as a .gif.

There's so much stuff to do in the game but I've actually run out of ideas. I think the demo area's lost its appeal now, it's a bit boring. I already know the demo section off by heart, so I can't wait to unlock the city and mountainous areas.

Is it 1 week or 2 weeks before the game's launch that an Official thread is allowed to be made by the way?

Exactly why I deleted it last week. I don't want to be playing the full game and think "Meh, here comes the demo area."

Yeah I saw your post a few pages back and thought "hmm... that's a pretty good idea" but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I'll just leave it alone for a while.

so i gave this demo another try and this time i actually found a chopper.

i took it as high as i could..... and wow... game looks fucking stunning with its insane scale. i parachuted down from god knows how high (took several minutes to land), and just marveled at the scenery.

pretty incredible tech they got going on with this game, easily trumps even games like GTAIV and Fallout 3 in scale. and i cant even point my finger on what they had to sacrifice to make it run on consoles... seems to run pretty smooth overall, no jaggies, no screentearing, textures are ok, pop-in is minimal... how is this possible?!

That's the worst part about this. That fucking womann's fucking voice.
Says every sentence exactly the same way.

Some of the dialogue is just ridiculous, in one of the missions Bolo says something completely non-sexual like "there will be back-up at the drop off point", and Rico replies with "I like what you say, and I like the way you say it, lady..." :lol I mean... what the hell.

Or how's that:

A) Just Cause 2 | Official Thread of riding gas canisters & raining hell from above
B) Just Cause 2 | Official Thread of abusing gas canisters & awful voice acting

The gameplay is quite addicting i must say...

I do have CS3. When opening a avi. file it tells me, my QuickTime is outdated. Should be at least version 7.1. So i just need to install a the lastest standalone QuickTime or do i have to play around with some PS plug-ins to update it?

What if we combine it into

JustCause 2 | Official Thread of flying gas canisters, sky diving belly flops, and the infinite parachute generator
Sounds good to me :)

Also, I tried that 2 mile up free-falling belly flop action. I got a big splash, sunk to near the bottom, and died horribly.

Maybe it was my technique?

As long as that fits in the forum length reqs, I'm all for it :D

BO-LO SAN-TO-SI has to be in there. It just has to be.

The fact there's this much discussion over what should go into the official thread title shows how awesome a game it is :lol .

I have a feeling this will be my game of the generation.

Yeah, I've tried that twice now and failed both times. I have no idea how the guy in the video did it.
