Just Cause 2 Multiplayer - [Beta Test: Sat 8th-9th September]

Just give me t he ability to actually shoot people, and better synced animations!

Roaming GAF gang would be godly.
1. Custom servers
2. NPCs!!!!!!!!
3. Better animation sync

All of those are a must if the mod will have any good replayability.

2. NPCs!!!!!!!!

From what I've read, the devs of the mod have stated that NPCs are unlikely due to some technicalities (they... didn't divulge what though). So... I don't think we'll be seeing NPCs when the mod actually releases. I think the idea, ultimately, is to have a crap ton of actual players rather than have only a handful of players and NPCs flooding the world.

Maybe someone will actually try to implement NPCs when the mod is released but... other than that, not looking too hopeful.

There apears to be a new timer on the website site now no news or fourm post but it is claiming the next test will start in about 1 day 10 hours.

It doesn't seem like that big of a loss. Just Cause 2 had some of the most uninteresting NPCs around, surpassed only recently by Saints Row 3. They couple populate the world with life-sized cardboard cut outs and it would essentially be the same thing.

...That actually sounds kinda cool.

I really think the main reason people want'em is for the destruction aspect of the game, from strongholds to the roads (hijack NPC cars, for instance) to the cities themselves. Without them, it's kinda just empty in the sense that the destruction you're causing isn't really affecting anything or giving you any reward.

...Even though really the MP would be about screwing around and playing with other players to do crazy ass shit lol.

I don't care either way as I'm sure there will be plenty of creative things to do in the world. JC2 has such a HUGE world.

i saw the devs repeatedly say if you want NPCs go play singleplayer, if you want to play with humans then this MP mod is for you.

i think the most we can expect is an improvement with syncing and custom servers for everyone. missions and objectives is probably pushing it

Taking out one of the best parts. Bleh.

From the perspective of someone who got hijacked way too many times - it was not the best part for me. It means you can still potentially be hijacked, it's just very hard to do so.

I hope there's some cooldown on it though, otherwise you might just be able to remove yourself from the stunt position and then quickly hijack the vehicle.

Maybe a dumb question, but does that just mean you can't hijack cars, or is "cars" being used to describe all vehicles?

I want to be chased by cops and harass pedestrians with a friend though.

oh damn I can't wait for this to be back. I'll have to wait until I wake up though. It's starting at like 4am for me.

This or being a server variable sounds like the best compromise. They're clearly likely doing it from the perspective of it causing too much grief, them implementing it in the first place obviously means they saw a place for it somewhere initially.

I think they should eventually have something where hijacking is based on a race to a QTE (like the one in the single player). When you hijack or get hijacked, you have 3 keys to hit. Whoever gets 2 out of 3 first gets the vehicle. I'm sure there would probably be some way to implement something like this.

Wait, so if you can't hijack from the stunt position, what does that mean? From the stunt position on the vehicle you want to hijack? I ask this because of this: What if you can stand in the stunt position on someone else's plane, fly right next to a plane you want to hijack, and hijack it while standing on a different plane!

It's "floaty shit" still but it feels much more stable to me. With 1000 people on, it felt way better than when there were 500 on before. Not being able to hijack is probably for the best. Also, the new spawning system is so much better.

Every time you die, you spawn somewhere "random." So you're always near an airport which seems to always have people messing around. This is a lot better than everyone spawning in the same place and having to travel for long periods of time to get to the other side of the map.

Good thing they're on the right track.

They need to set the spawn close to where you died. Make a few set points and whenever you die, you spawn at the closest one. Random points might make it even harder to get where you want, no?

Man, without the ability to hijack or the risk of being hijacked, this really isn't much fun.

It would be better with a different vehicle spawn system. As it is now, vehicles only respawn about 30 seconds after they've been destroyed. That means at the smaller airports with only two planes, if both pilots are being careful it could be a very long time before new ones show up, and then you have to make sure you're fast enough to beat the other five people trying to grab one.

Once you are in the air though it becomes a blast. I flew up to the Mile High Club with an attach chopper and saw about five other helicopters there just unloading on the blimp, so joined them for while. After a couple minutes I decided to start going after the helicopters there instead and managed to shoot down two or three before getting shot down myself.

updated thread title so people know this is on right now

in the middle of uninstalling windows 8 otherwise I'd jump in right now

Apparently, hijacking being disabled is temporary and only for this test. They don't want a crap ton of chaos going on with hijacking. One of the devs on the forums also said that when hijacking is back in, there will be some kind of option. Like, I guess actually being able to do something about being hijacked? Dunno, it was really... ambiguous.

Hey,

The vehicle hijacking has been temporarily disabled for these tests. Don't worry, when the server's released, hijacking will be an option you can choose; hijacking was just disabled so a 1,000 player server can maintain order. Just you wait! ;)

Though the guy who posted that seems to be lacking a developer member status... so I don't know how legit it is.

Probably just a custom server toggle.
