Just Cause 3 - early impressions thread

im thinking the long load times might be due to their servers not being up, could be getting stuck in timeout hangs, so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt until the game has officially launched, who knows it might get a second day one patch.
Getting on PC tho, so im not so bothered (nice fast ssd should help)

Yep.

I pre ordered the PS4 version but this thread has me nervous now, Why did I not order Xone version?. I loved just cause 2 and Mad Max on the PS4 ran pretty well. I hope this is all fixable. Hopefully it is "something subtle" that can be fixed easily.

I actually am a little disappointed to hear the narrative is weak, I mean I wouldn't expect apocalypse now but I think Rico is such a novel character; a spanish revolutionary working with the CIA to overthrow governments that he could really have an interesting character arc. I mean that is not a typical bio of game characters. I was hoping with the success of just cause 2 that avalanche would go the extra mile but from early impressions sounds like the narrative is similar to Mad Max( which I thought was awesome but very limited due to the fact that Max is so screwed up in the head he was never going to have a lot of plot exposition).

I've been playing with my PS4 disconnected since yesterday - it makes no difference.

That video showed me that that 3 min loading time video was horseshit.

I'm currently sitting through another 1 minute plus death reload in one of the challenges.

There's no defending this.

  • Fallout 4 is a graphic and technical mess with over-simplified game and very little improvements over F3/NV, but lots of drawbacks
  • Assassin's Creed Syndicate is more debated among players, it can be seen as the same formula/engine with too much nonsense (horsecars etc) or has a fun/more polished episode
  • SW Battlefront hasn't got enough content to offer and the simplified gameplay can be fun but won't satisfy everyone (especially those who like competitive MP FPS)
  • Rise of the TR is just an add-on of the first TR, with same qualities/flaws, it is definitely not what Uncharted 2 was to Uncharted 1
  • COD:BO3 has the worst COD campaign ever and a multi-player inferior to AW
  • Need for Speed has a pretty engine...and that's all.

These are all sequels. If a sequel is not at least a little bit better than the previous episode, then it's a failure.

It's not "everything is a subjective experience", there are facts and perspective.

lol

Yeah but the game might still try to check for the servers even with it d/c, again I can't see why they would code it like that but we won't know for sure until official release.

If yall wanna know how bad the framerate (and my aim) gets, watch this clip.

At first I was like "Oh its lower than 30 almost the entire time but not too bad then...HOLY crap."
But whats odd is I keep seeing people post videos and saying it looks fine and those videos are actually dropping frames and lower than 30 as well so I think many people are just getting very accustomed to lower than 30fps. There isn't a current video yet in this thread that isn't PC that doesn't drop a good deal of frames at some point.

It's very, very distracting for me and makes the game hard to control, let alone enjoy the destruction.

Like, I don't get nausea from bad framerates but my eyes start to strain when I'm struggling to tell what's going on with amidst the motion blur and the slow down.

I don't mind losing some sunflower physics or some hair shine to get better framerate in a game like this, TBH.

Even resolution.

I'd happily take the 900p for a locked 30fps than this.

No AA, heavy motion blur, slow downs? Shit's just nasty.

  • I'm 30 hours into Fallout 4 on XB1 and I absolutely love it and think it looks pretty great for the most part, and not having any major slowdowns and definitely no pauses like some videos early on showed, love the game
  • Ass Creed Syndicate I cannot vouch for, but I kinda got tired of those games after Black Flag
  • SW Battlefront definitely doesn't seem like a $60 game to me either, but I'm playing the trial via EA Access and I really enjoy it, seems to have quite a few maps and I'm mainly just a deathmatch/team dm type player so it seems enough to me to pick up later for $40 or less, or wait for it to be free in the EA Access vault
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider is a fantastic game in all respects, yes it's more of the same from the first one but so are many sequels but the first game was also fantastic so no qualms getting more of the same.
  • Blacks Ops 3 is friggin awesome, loving every aspect of it
  • Need for Speed ya I agree it sux, looks pretty nice but other than that the game is horrible, I'll get it free later in the EA vault.

None of what I said are facts they are my opinion, just as what you said was.

Here is one of my video that I made last night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpTuwKUGE3A

I liberate one of the smaller settlement using helicopter and cause some explosions. Nothing as severe as the other video though. I have yet to see a sustained drop to 15 fps, especially in a scenario where nothing is going on like in the video.

Man thats got some bad FPS of its own jezuz.
But its a game about destruction with an absolute insane number of explosions going on. Getting like for like performance is going to be impossible since its obviously not locked in any way. So there doesn't seem to be a good baseline to notice quarks and small drops, instead its just anarchy in fps form lol. Of course most of the time the game has something chaotic going on. The only real guarantee is frame drops of some kind on the consoles.

This thread has shown me that I need to give Mad Max a shot.
You absolutely should. I am surprised most people haven't by now.

What baffles me is that I recall JC2 running much steadier overall on PS3 which is a fraction of PS4 horsepower.

And JC2 was no slouch in terms of scale and destruction either.
