Just finished Persona 4 Golden. I feel empty inside

Now go play Persona Q, Persona 4: Arena (or whatever the current iteration is) and Persona 4: Dancing All Night (aka Vita GOTY 2015).

Top Spin 4 is JUST like Persona 4 TRUST ME just buy it blind NO DON'T LOOK UP TRAILERS please buy it.

Fighting the fight for Top Spin 5 to come out
.

I too loved P4 and I'm still waiting on a P3P sale. Haven't touched my Vita for months lol.

I got the ending where:
- Yu goes back home when there is still fog (I think this is the bad ending)
- The team fights Namatame, and you go through the winter, snow, Marie's dungeon, etc. The game ends in a similar tone as the bad ending, but there is no fog in town. (I think this is the normal ending)
- After you beat Marie's dungeon, in the day before you go back home, you have to go to the city to speak with every character where your SL was maxed. After that, if you go to Junes, you unlock another dungeon where Izanami awaits. After you beat Izanami, you get the normal ending, plus some scenes that take place after some months. In the end, you get a picture of the whole team, including Marie. (This is the true ending, I think)

Am I missing something?

The first bad ending is
killing Namatame and then going home.
The second bad ending is
failing to identify the culprit and then going home.
The third bad ending is
protecting the culprit and then going home. (Golden only)
The normal ending is
catching Adachi and then going home.
The true ending is
defeating Izanami.
The golden ending is
returning to Inaba after defeating Izanami.

I might have missed some bad ends idk

Now go play Persona Q, Persona 4: Arena (or whatever the current iteration is) and Persona 4: Dancing All Night (aka Vita GOTY 2015).

DO NOT PLAY THOSE THEY ARE AWFUL
p4d is fun if you ignore the story though

You could try Danganronpa. But to be honest, it won't really be a very similar experience to P4.
Steins;Gate is a much farther stretch, but could also possibly interest you.

Edit: And people, please remember some of us can't play trails of cold steel till the end of the month :-(

I got the ending where
after beating Ameno Sagiri I saved Marie in the Hollow Forest. After that it was just saying Valentines Day and saying goodbye to everyone. I have a savegame right before fighting Marie in the Hollow Forest, am I still on track to the True or Golden ending?

Also, should I aim for the True ending or the Golden? Or both?

when you say goodbye DO NOT GO HOME, go to junes instead.
the "Golden" ending is like the true one but if the aeon arcana is maxed before the 24th december then you get the additional dungeon.

Thats the good ending. But you are in a great position to get the best ending.

That's what I feel too. It feels like the end of a holiday with friends and tomorrow you have to work tomorrow.

I want to play Persona Q next but I held back, so you might want to look at that.

I'm playing persona Q ATM and it's nothing like P3 or P4,
it's more a classic rpg, with dungeons similar to P1 (1th person dungeon crawler).

Lol, what?
Persona Q is a good Etrian Odyssey game with some great dialog and interesting mix of P3/4.
Persona 4: Arena is a pretty darn good fighter with a fairly decent storyline.
Persona 4:DAN might have a throw away story, but the music and gameplay are incredible fun.

How do you even get true ending and not golden ending?
I understand that in order to unlock the true ending, you MUST have a certain character SL maxed. And if you do so, you automatically get the golden ending.
Unless I'm missing something.

Nah, I think you're done. Sorry, I wish there was more. Play through again to match all social links!

Or go for the bad endings! Those are kinda interesting.

PQ is a decent game, but the writing is trash.
P4A is a decent game, but the writing is trash.
P4D is a good game, but the writing is bleh.

Play them if you want the characters ruined for you.

You don't need any SLs maxed for the true ending. The golden ending (and Marie, by extension) wasn't even in the original PS2 release.

Now play the spin-offs to try and fill the void.

P4A is a decent game, but the writing is trash.

PQ does have some pretty good character moments for those who aren't flanderized. Especially between Kanji and Ken.
P4A series is just crap all around except for Labrys.
P4D does nothing to really advance any development of any of the main characters which is actually fine, they aren't annoying in that game. Still entertaining.

Goddamn! You guys just made my day!

Gotta go for that True Ending!

Tough after that the drama of not having more Persona to play comes back lol...

I've been interested in Danganrompa, maybe it's time to go for it!

Also, some of you recommended The Legend of Heroes. Where do I start? Cold Steel?

You shouldn't feel empty inside now that have you have all those friends OP.

I was sad to see that game end, but it was good. P3FES has a better story though. Just sayin'.

If you haven't yet, I'd recommend playing TWEWY after you get the true ending. Persona 2 Duology too if you can get past the battle system.

Not an expert (only playing trhough FC right now, then SC, and only then Cold Steel), but:
- You have mainly two series that are translated: Trails in the Sky first chapter and Second Chapter on one side, and Cold Steel and Cold Steel 2 (slated for later this year). They take place on the same universe, there are some crossreferences, but each series is a standalone.
- I think you may like Cold Steel better, as the setting is in an equivalent of an high school. makes the transition from Persona easier I'd guess.

Welcome to the brotherhood. Your going to always be nostalgic when you see the cast from p3&4. Now you can join the agonising wait for p5.

Now play Persona 4 vanilla so you don't have to deal with worst grill Marie.

You take that back.

It's not like they have a great source material to draw from; the writing in P4 is barely decent, and it's much worse in Golden. I preferred P3 by far, even if the pacing of the writing was dreadful.

This is why everybody has been so impatient for Persona 5 OP. There isn't much like it.

I really don't get all the Trails recommendations. I played a bit of it and it doesn't feel Persona-y at all. I mean, yea it is a JRPG featuring high school type characters, but the games are in different leagues.

That's true, but we gotta consider the context here. The lengthy originals introduce quirky characters with stories to tell. Their stories are all over in the much shorter spinoffs (or currently on hold in Q) so most of them have been reduced to whatever their quirk was. Chie likes meat, Akihiko likes protein, Teddie is horny, Yukiko laughs a lot, blah blah blah. These were things you'd see glimpses of in the originals and were supposed to think "wow this quirk really brings another dimension to this character than just their struggles do" but that doesn't work in the spinoffs because their story has already been told. The writers clearly had no idea where to take anyone after P3 or P4, so reducing them to whichever trait of theirs was popular with the fanbase had to do.

And then Arena and especially Ultimax are just horribly written stories in general. Arena would've been decent if it was solely the tale of Labrys, but the other cast members bogged it down with their boring nonsense. Ultimax, however, was a complete failure on every conceivable level. Q just feels completely pointless outside of ultimately meaningless fanservice. P4 at least had a cohesive-ish story to tell, and it told it well enough.

Nobody's saying it's exactly like Persona, it's just the next best JRPG currently out on Vita.

If you thought you felt empty after beating just the good ending, oh boy OP, you're in for some feels haha. Happy you found more to play though! Story wise all the Persona spin offs are god awful but P4Q and be Arena games have great gameplay so there is that. Have played P4D.

Funny thing, I didn't have the same P4G feels until I played Tales from the Borderlands. The character interactions were similar and hilarious even tho it's a different world and type of game. Give that a shot.

I love threads like this, feels good <3

OK so you're empty inside and want games that kinda offer what P4 did? I felt the same way, so maybe try these out:

Trails in the Sky
DanganRonpa 1 & 2
Mass Effect Trilogy
Dragon Age Trilogy
Baldurs Gate 2
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Fire Emblem Awakening
Rogue Galaxy
Pillars of Eternity

YMMV - these are games that I felt offered some of the familiar and intangible qualities of P4

You can play Cold Steel without playing Trails in the Sky. There are some callbacks and references, but it isn't needed to enjoy the game.
P4 vanilla worth playing or am I better off getting a Vita?

The original is more of a challenge. It's still worth playing.

Definitely agreed with this, and all of these games. The beauty of Persona 4 is that it has so many systems that synergize incredibly well, no other game comes close in that regard. All of these games (I only haven't played Trials) offer at least a few of the systems that Persona 4 does in a fun way.

Edit: Oh, haven't tried Rogue Galaxy either.

The World Ends With You is pretty solid modern setting jrpg with a innovative combat system and interesting characters with a groovy Shibuya's style soundtrack. It has no social link stuff but both games tapped on similar fashion style. Too bad, it's not on vita but you can play it on a smart phone.

In fact, TWEWY soured Persona 3 for me because I compared them unfairly. I know they are entirely different game but the lingering irrational thought of how I wished Persona 3 was presented more like TWEWTY really made me hate P3.

It's not until P4 that I am on board because of its goofy characters and more polished game play. Persona 3 characters are too self serious for me; worse when they didn't really break their generic anime molds at the end.

You just can't hype me up with promises by having character shoot themselves in the head yet disappoint me with generic Jesus savior story with anime archetype characters and a blank slate main character. It also bothers me why everyone is so infatuated with the main character when he has zero personality. It's hilarious how you can just bone almost every girl you see and it pretty much encouraged you to cheat because you need to do it to fuse the strongest persona.

Persona 4 handled that better by adding more personality to Yu and having the decency to force you to give brutal rejections or just be friends with the female characters.

P4 also embraced its anime better by being unabashedly anime instead of trying to be all serious but still can't forsake its animeness. It's all about expectation and perspective and I can write a few thousand words on it but I won't do it here so let just put it this way; it felt natural to have Persona 4 characters dancing in a goofy anime rhythm game but it sure as hell will be awkard to see Persona 3 characters prancing around in the same game.

I felt relieved for not having to deal with Teddy and the rest of cliché characters anymore.

Great game tho.

I agree OP, the most empty feeling when it ended... so empty I played NG+ for another 50 hrs, gave copy to friend in the end as it was the only way to leave it alone.

Really hope 5 is the monkeys nuts.

I'm glad you loved it so much. Not sure what to recommend you in it's place other than another playthrough or some of the spinoff titles like Persona Q.

I'm glad that you liked it OP. Unfortunately there isn't much else to recommend since the game is one of a kind.

But look at the bright side, you finishing P4G now, means that you only have to wait less than one year to get Persona 5!!!
LOL!
