Just finished Persona 4 Golden. I feel empty inside

Trails of Cold Steel is kind of what you're looking for maybe. I haven't finished it yet, but the story isn't too good and the characters are mostly weak. It's not anywhere in the same league as Persona 4, but it might be the closest thing you're looking for.

Safest bet is to just take it easy and wait for 5 to release this year... I think.
I disagree with you on the matter. The best thing about the long wait for Persona 5 is that I discovered and played through the Trails series in de meanwhile. Now, I'm more psyched for Cold Steel III than Persona 5.

Only game to make me really feel empty and depressed but happy at the same time. The game was just really good, never expected it since I picked it up on a whim because I was in the mood for an RPG.

I haven't played Cold Steel yet, but Trails in the Sky First and Second Chapter already wipe the floor with Persona 3/4, so I could imagine...

That said, I still enjoyed them and am cautiously awaiting Persona 5!

I've played Persona Q and I can confirm that game is one of the best on the 3DS and a great Persona game overall. Now, while you wait for Persona 5, you should totally play Genei Ibun Roku ♯FE if you get a chance, it's only out in Japan for now, but it's coming to the west soon and boy that game is good.

is the story identical to game?

I can't recall missing anything significant during the first two movies and I haven't watched the third movie. The fourth (and last) movie isn't out yet.

I highly recommend to watch it. It makes Persona 3 look cool. And that game is cool, but it's a very long slow paced journey with something boring as Tartarus.

For me it's reliving that game and making me go back. That persona awakening HNNNG.

i'll watch LP then. need to see the end.

I wish there was more of them too OP. It's a big reason why so many of us are hype for Persona 5.

Who did you romance? There is only one correct answer.

#TeamChie

Come on, if you're going to tell him who to romance at least be correct about it.

Rise for life

P3 plays dramatically worse than Golden but its themes and story hit me harder, which I didn't think was possible after P4 literally changed my life

P3 also has a better soundtrack.

That's right.

really though the true waifu is kanji but we were cheated out of romancing him

I wish I had the time to explain why you guys are wrong. Just know that you are.

Just wait until P5 and it will feel even more magical.

Any other anime-ish rpgs don't really strike the tone right for me, so I'm pretty picky in which ones I play. Even Golden had parts added that I was rolling my eyes at in comparison to OG P4. Persona Q is good if you're into Etrian Odyssey style dungeon crawlers and don't mind a fan service-y vibe. Edit: Oops, that's not on vita.

Let's put an end to this debate once and for all. Best girl is obviously Mysterious Fox. You know you just want her to hug you with her strong arms *yip*

Not a Vita recommendation, sorry. But SMT: Nocturne. Do it

Persona 2 is on the Vita (PSP backwards compatibility), but you may find it to be outdated gameplay-wise. Probably the best story in Persona and SMT. Also, only the first part of the game is on Vita, the second part is only on PS1/PS3.

Pretty sure I saw that EP was available as a PS1 classic on Vita on the webstore

You could start playing the superior SMT games now, starting with Nocturne and Persona 2.

Unless you are just looking for more waifu wish-fulfillment, in that case stick to P3-4 and spin-offs.

The answer to your question is the Persona 2 duology. It's the best part of the Persona series anyway. Hands down. No contest. Best plot, best characters, most unique and intriguing gameplay, etc. etc. No date-sim stuff but Eikichi/Michel is best waifu of all time anyway. Just look at him and his fabulous personality.

I would never suggest that game to even my worst enemy. To clarify, I mean #FE.

Superior my ass. XD

They are far and away superior : p. The P2 duology is easily the highlight of the Persona series at the very least.

Their comment about waifu wish-fulfillment was pretty accurate too, tbh, especially with the direction Atlus has gone over-time. That said P3P is still quite good (because of the female protagonist and her s. links and overall stronger writing). P4 is okay. The P4 arena games are alright too. They basically play like an easier Blazblue but they're not bad. But P4G's added content and lots of other fanservice spin-offs certainly became much more focused on waifu-ness.

Eikichi is seriously the best protagonist in the series. Dude is on the one hand a certifiable bad ass (guitar case that is actually a machine gun El Mariachi style) and on the other hand a complete goofball. He's also "fabulous" but in that "Visual Kei" sort of way. But underneath all of that facade, has a lot of depth to his character. Definitely one of my favourite characters from the Persona series, so, so underrated.

Try Persona 2, OP, you may like it, you may not, but it's worth a shot. I personally love all Persona games (I realise I am in the minority there). Also just check out other games by Atlus, like Shin Megami Tensei, Digital Devil Saga, Trauma Team, Catherine and of course the upcoming Persona 5. I'd also recommend Dangan Ronpa and Zero Escape (999 on DS, Virtue's Last Reward on Vita/3DS and lastly, the third game is out this year on both Vita and 3DS), loved the characters in those too.

Danganrompa has a somewhat similar feel and tone, but no dungeon crawling.

Persona Q on 3DS has the cast of P3 and P4 in fantastic dungeon crawling (much better than either P3 or P4 imho), but very little story or character interaction (and no social links).

I agree and it has the same kinda feel but as you said, no social links, which was amazing in P4.

I am going through the same crisis right now as well but I have not played P3 yet so I am diving into that ASAP

Very much agreed. I love Eikichi a lot. Though I love the whole P2 cast., at least in Innocent Sin anyway. Tatsuya is my second favorite lead in a Persona game after the female protag of P3P. Once I pick up it's sequel Eternal Punishment (I own it, waiting til I beat IS and I'm close to doing that), that may change depending on how I like Maya. Of the games in the P2 duology I always hear the most praise for Eternal Punishment and I already love IS so I'm excited for EP.

Idk if I would call Eikichi underrated. He and the whole of P2 are in the sense that they had little attention paid to them at the time of their release. P2 also focused much less on waifu-ness like the later Persona games that overshadowed them and rather focused heavily on it's plot and characters. Which is unfortunate that the later Persona games are popular first and foremost because of the fanservice. But nowadays you often see people who are fans of older smt prop up P2 as the best part of the Persona series. And that's for good reason, frankly. So I don't know. I agree he and frankly P2 as a whole are vastly underrated. But at the same time, P2 still gets a lot of love from certain crowds.

Guys, I just finished Persona 4 Golden on my PS Vita.

Got the good ending (not that hard) and loved it.

When I started playing it I had just finished Persona 3 Portable for the first time, so the different atmosphere and theme was a bit odd in the beggining.

Damn game really grew on my! The Social Link aspects, the Twin Peaks-esque theme, Kanji (yeah, Kanji is the best)...what a great experience!

Now I need my "Anime-like RPG with a dark story on the background and great date-sim interactions" fix!

What do you guys recommend? On the VITA btw.

Have you considered letting the Lord and Savior Trails into your heart?

Daring Do-Gooders! Spoony bards! God-Tier character development!

Irresponsible responsible authority figures! Political intrigue! Ancient mysteries!

i thought i was over P4G. i thought the sadness was gone. then you link this. why Jintor. Why.

I have P3P and sunk about 20-30 hours into it but dropped it hard. The difficulty spikes are terrible and grinding is no fun because all of the animations take way too long. Should I just skip it and move on to P4? I'm not missing out on anything major?

P3 is arguably better. the ending is serious shit.

Same thing happened to me.

Having finished P3:FES , as a last resource I watched both of P4 animes.

Not bad if you wanna spend more time with the characters.

The true ending should be the one we get by default, the way to get the real end of the game is very obscure and unless you get spoiled you'll miss it.

This, and an overall inferior plot makes me like Persona 3 more, i agree that the dungeon design and some gameplay choices are better tho (but i liked controlling 1 pj only)

The biggest mistake I've made in gaming was finishing Persona 4. Once I was done I didn't want the story to ever end. :(

I agree with the the Danganronpa shouts. I played it post P4G and it scratched that itch a little in regards to story and humour. I'd say they were in the same ballpark in that aspect, and not in a Palmer Luckey sense.

I don't understand why anyone would like to have control over the MC only. Anyways, P4 can be played that way too, it's not that they force you to control everyone. However, I could agree that P3 was in some ways better especially the overall plot and the music.

note that I played P3 after completing P4 and I was hooked just as I was when playing 4. Give it a try OP, playing P4 first didn't ruin anything.

Then we're both in the minority. <3
