Can only speak towards Fantasy Life, but I really enjoyed it. Played almost 200 hours I think. If you like leveling, there are twelve classes that you can play as. They're all divided into three different categories: combat, crafting, and gathering. Combat you have stuff like paladin and mercenary, crafting you have stuff like blacksmith and tailor, and gathering you have stuff like angler and miner. Each life class has its own individual quests to level them up, but the nice thing is that you can often level multiple ones at at time and it's very easy to change lives so you can turn your points in to do so. So for example you can still chop trees or make blacksmith weapons while playing as a mercenary if you want to. You'll gain experience for the skills pertaining to those respective classes, and you can also fulfill the life specific quests should you meet the criteria as well. There's just a lot of synergy between lives as well. So as an example, you can catch a fish as an angler, cook it as a cook, and then eat it for stat boosts while fighting as a paladin, and so on.
It plays as a fairly basic action RPG for the most part. You walk around and attack monsters with your weapons with free movement. There are mounts you can get for traveling around though there is also a quick warp system in place as well. There's an ally system too, though it's not terrible involved. You can also play multiplayer with people online, which is nice, but most everything is manageable solo. Equipment changes are reflected on your character. The crafting requires variations on the same minigame, but it doesn't really get too annoying.
Great soundtrack too, Nobuo Uematsu is the composer. The story is kind of lame but inoffensive. You can largely ignore it, or just speed through it to continue doing what you want to do.
I don't know, I'd watch some videos if you haven't already to see if you like how the game looks. If you're looking for a time sink, I'd say you could definitely do worse. I really enjoyed my time playing it at least, it was one of my favorite games last year.
