The best PSX game is Final Fantasy IX. Period.

But now that it's been remastered on mobile and PC, that's the best way to play it, IMO.

Games without remasters... Well, it has to be Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid, or Ape Escape, right?

Breath of Fire 4 is a looker, nice watercolor and the dragons are impressive, game is not half bad either but since you already have it, I have been playing Xenogears and it looks impressive at times, though not as good of BoF 4 imo.

God, I've really gotta play this game. Can't believe I never have. All I remember was a buncha people complaining when it came out that it wasn't Secret of Mana.

Believe it or not, it reminds me a lot of Majora's Mask in the sense that it's highly side-quest driven. But it's far less linear than Majora's Mask and the side quests are really the bulk of the experience in a good way.

Gradius Gaiden:

Can I just highlight this one for a second? If the OP picked up SOTN, he should definitely consider Gradius Gaiden.

It's from the same era of Konami, upgrading old franchises to the 32-bit generation with really awesome sprites, experimental digital music, and an awareness and celebration of the series' history. It feels like a spiritual sibling to SOTN in a way.

Breath of Fire III. The environments are polygonal, but the sprites for party members, NPCs, enemies and bosses are all 2D and look great. I imagine it'd look just as good as IV through a Framemeister.

Top Priority for me would be Final Fantasy Tactics.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is my favourite PS1 game ever. Excellent Zelda-like (LttP style) with great writing, atmosphere and VA.

Rayman, Skullmonkeys and Lomax are excellent 2D platformers.

And for RPGs, Suikoden I and II of course.
