just got Street Fighter X Tekken

I got the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection from the Amazon sale last week (for $79) and this was in it. This is my first time playing it. It's not that bad. >_> People act like it eats babies whenever it's mentioned, but it's pretty fun. Maybe it was really bad when it launched, I don't know. It's pretty much SFIV with TTT-like tags and no Focus Attacks.

I've been playing Sakura and Poison. I play a lot of Sakura in SFIV, so I went with her and I had to try Poison out, being an old-school Final Fight fan and a fan of the melding of the SF and FF worlds. Speaking of which, this game has so much Final Fight fan service, I can feel the spirit of Alpha in it. If they could just take out the Tekken and put in more SF and FF stuff, that would be great. :D jk

I just have one question. Do I have to manually set up gems for every character? That seems like it would be very tedious. I feel like I would need to, to properly try every character out, though. Oh, and I think gems seem like an interesting concept. I haven't played enough to know if they are or not, but it sounds like it has potential. It reminds me of Isms or Grooves in a way. I just don't want to set all of them up. :\

Been meaning to get this for a while...

Has is it been confirmed that there will never be a.super ultra version of this?

Eh, I'll wait until the ver. 2013 update comes out and be analyzed until I go ahead and say "lol, sorry dudderz"

no idea, but then again this is capcom - they are known to put out updates of their fighting games, whether its 6 months down the line like mvc3 or a year like other games. im holding off this time until the ultimate/super version comes out.

Got it at launch and it still remains one of my favorite fighters this generation. It's so colorful and wacky. Damn shame about the DLC, though.

And to answer your question, yes. One by one. ;)

I was under the impression that some sort of contract with Namco prevented them from ever being able to release a "Super" edition. Not sure where I heard that from though. At any rate it's almost been a year, we'll see soon enough if Capcom will put out another update. (Outside of the Ver. 2013 patch)

SFxT wasn't a TERRIBLE game but I honestly hated playing with any of the Tekken characters and always stuck with the Street Fighter ones. In that case, I should just keep playing SSFIV instead...

your gem question was already answered (yes). but i'll add that it's also my favorite current fighter. I really really like the incredibly simple combo link system.

Everyone beat me to saying sorry lol. A lot of the problems people have with the game comes from higher levels of play but its fun to screw around with and hopefully the update will fix a few of the problems that are possible to fix.

Do what Tom Cruise did:

Which I find really weird for people to say, since I've heard people like Alex Valle and Dieminion actually praising the game.

Some things have changed, but SFxT got a lot of hate on release for the following reasons:
1) Gameplay is poorly balanced. Easy infinites, infinite jab strings (seriously), etc.
2) Game mechanics are poorly thought out. Pandora is useless, and it was really, really easy to just run away and time out your opponent for 20+ seconds.
3) 20 DLC characters. 20. All of them done by the time the game released.
4) Gems as DLC. Customize your characters...with money!
5) Gems are tedious to set up, and some are ridiculously good, like Autoblock.
6) At release, gameplay and sound effects were not synced for online play - very annoying to listen to.

Some of these things have been addressed, and some can never be addressed. The game deserves every drop of hate it gets, it's the antichrist of gaming sins.

You are correct. They're contractually prohibited from doing it.

Thats the 2013 patch they're praising.

No, I heard Valle talking about how he liked that there were no Ultras or Focus Attacks in it when the first update came out in 2012 and Dieminion was saying that it's his current favorite game at the SF25 event he won.

A lot of folks liked 2012 as well. It still had lots of big problems but the underlying game is still very good. 2013 is gonna clean up the mess so folks can have fun with the actual game.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry to hear that

lol you guys.

Anyway, SFxT is... I don't even know at this point. I thought it was okay at first, but I think the negative vibes of the community really affected my outlook on the game. I do agree with them on a lot of their complaints leveled against this game, though. Frankly, it's boring to watch, and I personally believe that's one of the worst things a fighting game can be. Each match seems to plod by with chain fishing, busted jab frames, nerfed throws, wonky damage scaling, and other stuff. Some of these issues lead to frequent timeouts. Then there was that whole bunch of other negative press with the DLC characters, Cross Assault, the promised local co-op mode being omitted from the 360 version, game-breaking bugs, overpowered pay-to-use gems, gems themselves being either useless or too powerful...

I'm gonna give it another go when 2013 rolls around, because I was pretty psyched for this game before all of that shit went down. I really wanted a co-op online fighter to play with my buddies. Definitely keeping my expectations in check this time though.

KUMAKUMAKUMAKUMA

Farts for everyone!

Seriously. 2013 is gonna be sexy as fuck. Fish for boost chains in 2013? If it gets blocked, kiss your life away with all of that disadvantage. Almost half your life with a single super bar? Yes, plz.

OT: May I ask where are you guys getting these sprite avatars from?

EDIT: they are awesome.

Jwong really likes the game. I've asked him in person. I think it's boring to watch and play personally, but I'm interested to see how the patch fixes the problems I've had with it.

Most of the problems people run into is when they try to play competitively. Most people also enjoy playing Super Smash Bros Brawl until they try to play it competitively as well. It just depends what level you play it at and what you try to do.

It's fun to play right now until you get hit by jab, jab, jab, jab, etc.

Still need to put more time into Vita version but yeah, it's fun and a downright fantastic accomplishment on vita from a port perspective

The 2013 update looks cool but i can see why people can be avoidant of it because they got burned.I honestly though capcom was going to handle this game better knowing they have another company make and x version with their characters. It's like they put anything out knowing it will be bought.

And as mentioned before PC is a wasteland. Still doesn't have the latest patch update, the dlc, ANY of the characters that were locked on the disc on the other versions that you buy unlock codes to be able to use, and apparently its online on PC is bad too.

I played Poison Hugo because I always wanted to do it. I got it for $14. I regret a lot of that, but hey if I got my buddy Bill over locally and we're screwing around with broken games like Kamen Rider Super Climax Heroes we can always pop in SFxTekken for more casual hilarity too. Some of those gem combos are absolutely ridiculous.

I love that that gif has spread lol.

You forgot to add one

7/ Butthurt marvel fans who didn't like sfxtk getting stream time instead of marvel (not that it lasted but hey lets make sure it stays buried right)

oh and

8/ butthurt marvel fans who didn't like that sfxtk is getting a revision and umvc3 isn't even though umvc3 is the revision.

And it was 12 DLC characters, not 20 lol.

Most of the hate is unwarranted but there's just a huge roll of PR fail on Capcom's part rolling up into one disaster in everyone's minds.

Anyway, new patch in 2~ weeks. It's going to be a much more offensive and wacky game border lining SF4 and Marvel with hit confirming to bigger damage. I am super pumped.

I like the game overall, even though the gem system remains dumb, but not having the DLC characters on the PC version is such bullshit.

It's gonna be almost Marvel with the damage you'll be able to get off hit-confirms, now that all the safe-shit isn't in the game anymore, lol.

Have you considered that Marvel players also like other fighting games, and SFxT was just a piece of shit? Post in the Marvel OT asking what other fighting games people there own/play/love, and you'll get a nice list from everyone there. It's not like Marvel fans hate SFxT "just because".

Isn't that a bad thing? Don't you ideally want a game that makes it worthwhile to tag between characters several times in a match? Having 100% combos so frequently in SFxT seems like a poor decision.

Game is total garbage on PC. Unplayable online, way behind on patches, and no DLC after all these months even though it's on the disk. Wasn't even worth the 10 bucks I spent on it.

If you want to equate stream monsters to MarvelGAF....

I really enjoy playing the game, but it really is terrible to watch outside of seeing kuma. I do like how the game really rewards the better skilled/more knowledgeable player and I think the emphasis on spacing and positioning instead of random setups appeals to players like Valle/Jwong/Dieminion.
