Just tried Five Guys, does it get better than this?

If it doesn't have a drive-thru, it ain't fast food.

Five Guys is better than those others, but that's because it's a different tier.

Neither Subway nor Jimmy John's have drive-thrus. Are you going to tell me that those aren't fast food?

Funny, because the Smashburger we have in intown Atlanta is RIGHT NEXT to the Gamestop on Sidney Marcus.

Five Guys isn't quite in the same league as Smashburger or Shake Shack, but a burger/fries/drink at five guys runs me like 11 bucks and it's more satisfying than the 16 bucks i spend at Shake Shack for about the same thing. Shake Shack is better, but not 5 dollars better.
I ate here last week and Five Guys on Northside Dr this week. Smashburger is much better imo.

Me and SimpleGamer will post impressions soon.

I love the fries but the burgers are kinda "tasteless".

It was definitely good for a first impression.

I enjoyed the burger but the patty just tastes like it doesn't has any type of seasoning on it.

Five guys is thoroughly average and way overpriced. Pretty much all fast food other than taco bell is overpriced now though.

I really like their burgers but I'm not going to say their the best, but I LOVE their fries and the inclusion of a Coke Freestyle machine :)

(coming from UK perspective Five Guys is relatively new here)

In-N-Out.

But Five Guys is expanding more aggressively, so you're more likely to find a Five Guys around unless you're in Southern California. Here in Northern Cali we only have a few In-N-Outs... it's a drag.

I'll happily eat Five Guys above most other fast food joints. But not In-N-Out... though, I might make an exception of the line at In-N-Out is too out of hand... because it can get pretty bad sometimes. Super popular.

Am I the only one that thought Five Guys was absolutely run of the mill bland? I really got nothing out of it as far as taste goes.

Or is the opening in my face bugged?

Nah i think so too. Id rather eat a value menu burger. I think most people agree, its just that five guys is very aggressive with viral marketers.

I just had one of their milkshakes this past week. I think its a new thing they're doing, at least in this area.

Best strawberry shake I've ever had.

Both Subway and Jimmy John's have drive-thrus in my city. Five Guys is definitely fast food though. McDonalds in NYC doesn't have a drive-thru so that doesn't correlate.

Smashburger is just as overpriced.

Whataburger is solid if you have a great location, shit tier if you have a bad one.

Yes, as far as I can tell Smashburger and Five Guys are in their own category in terms of cost/style. They're both non-restaurant fairly expensive burger chains. Smashburger has far better burgers, they both have different but really good fries although Five guys gives you basically a pound of them, for better or worse.

Comparing to the more traditional fast food restaurants doesn't make a lot of sense. I wouldn't compare del taco or taco bell to Chipotle or Moe's. Different product and customers

Five Guys opened recently here in Bristol and it's pretty damn good, expensive though as it works out about £15 for what is essentially fast food (although admittedly much better quality).

There's a Shake Shack opening up in Cardiff as well, can't wait to try that.

Few weeks ago I arrived in London and a friend convinced me to try Five Guys. Burger was absolute garbage, tasteless rubbish. Cajun Fries were fantastic. Paid £13.75 for a burger, small fries and a drink.

Yeah, Five Guys is terrible.

Funnily enough, I've heard bad feedback about the London branches from several friends. One of them came with me to the Five Guys in Nottingham and he said it was much, much better and we both found the burgers to be very tasty. I guess they do something different there.

I really want to try Shake Shack one day though.

Thinking about it, there's good places that span ask price ranges. I love Whataburger.

Another fantastic low cost option is Steak and Shake. Their garlic burger is amazing. Meal is under $4 too. Go!

As far as fast food is concerned. After eating nothing but McDonald's and the occasional Wendy's and Chick fill a, this shit is amazing.

I think in terms of straight fast food, and not fast casual, yea, Five Guys is pretty much the pinnacle in the US. Though they only offer beef burgers or chicken breasts, they make them extremely well and offer a load of toppings. The peanut oil fries are also the bomb.

The only other place that comes close is In n' Out, and maybe Carl's Jr/Hardee's (though the quality of the product varies wildly by location there).

Edit: I agree that Red Robin is the best fast casual burgers. Nice, neutral atmosphere for sterile workplace gatherings too.

Red Robin ftw.

Peter's Drive-In in Calgary is amazing, too. Opening soon in Red Deer as well!

Were you born without a tongue? Peter's Drive-In is literal garbage, and the fact that Calgarians tout it as if it's something special is an embarrassment to the city.

And no, nothing is better than Five Guys.

Never been a big fan. There's been so many unique burger shops opening up around here, always something better for roughly the same price.

Yes, Five Guys is better than Wendy's and McDonalds... but you can do way better burger wise if you just go out and look.

I went there on my holidays in NY last month, and it was great. The hamburger tastes much better than in McDonald's and Burger King, and the fries are good too. The soda machine was icing on the cake, though some McDonald's there had them too.

Sadly I didn't go to Shake Shack, so I'll have to make another trip to the US in the future.

Las Vegas and soon Los Angeles are the cities with five guys, in n out, smash burger, and shake shack so you can try them all the same day.

If you come to LA you could get hook, habit, and umami as well.

If you have access to a Smashburger, OP, proceed there immediately; purchase a Big Classic, Smashfries, and a Butterfinger shake; savour and marvel at its perfection; send a big thank-you check valued at what you deem fit for fast-food salvation to your friend oreomunsta.

Yup, I think Smashburger beats out Five Guys. Smashburger has kick-ass burgers, shakes, and fries.

I have one within 5 minutes walking distance and never been lol. I just moved here a few months ago so that is my excuse. Never heard of them before until coming here.

Can someone break down the burger tiers for me? Which establishments would be:

Top Tier:

Mid Tier:

Bottom Tier:

If something other than the burger is being factored into the equation, for example amazing fries or fabulous shake, just make a note of it. Also, if you can describe what makes the burger special (special sauce/toppings, quality of meat, fancy bread/cheeses) that would be helpful as well.

We're getting a Five Guys nearby soon, and Elevation Burger just opened up across from a Red Robin here. The burger wars have started!

I can tell you this much:

Absolute fucking trash tier:
Burger King.

I've lived in Calgary and yeah... Peter's is shit. It was the best we had until 5G, Smash, and Fatburger came along.

EXTERMINATE this mistake in your life and visit it soon! =]
