When I started browsing Neogafs Off topic forum many years ago, I remember one of the first threads was about how Will Smith was liked by all, and he was the most bankable actor of all.
His fresh prince legacy is terrific, and it means a lot to a lot of people. He made really fun films, he re-vitalized himself in many ways. Men in Black was a lot of fun. I remember it being the epitome of 90s science fiction look (the friendly rated PG-13 pop-rap), the black tinted glasses, and the sterile clean set pieces. It was a fun movie.
Everyone saw him as a serious actor in Ali, and he had a seriously impressive and likeable demeanor in Bad Boys II. I was shocked how ripped physically he got for that part. That was one of the most entertaining summer blockbuster action flicks I remember in the last 20 years.
With Pursuit of Happyness, everybody raved about how good it was, and how great an actor both he and his kid was, and nobody seemed to have a problem with Jaden then.
It wasn't until later, with the whole scientology thing I heard people saying really crazy stuff about him. I recall him making a comment about how he said no to the part of Django in Django Unchained because it wasn't big enough.
That sounds strange and not satisfying. I am not exactly sure why. Maybe it's because that was such a bad ass movie, and wishing for Christopers part to be less would have made the film less good.
Is M. Night Shamayalayaya done in hollywood? After Earth and Avatar, how is his standing in hollywood?
