Kay Plays |OT|

Kay needs to go legit, and play the rest of the game blindfolded. Now that's a blind Let's Play. No more boss one shots for sure.

I agree on the Nexus. I like having a cozy hub where I can kick back and relax without having to worry about stumbling across a nest of angry skeletons. I thought the atmosphere was superior to Firelink Shrine - I prefer Majula over Firelink for the same reason. It's just more peaceful for me.

I thought the same my first time playing DeS ... until this kicked in and people started disappearing.

Man Flamelurker is such a great boss fight.

Yes, and it's not only about it being hard, either; FlameLurker is goddamn terrifying, thanks to the setting, the build up of the level design, getting to its lair; the music; the screams it makes and the pattern of it getting more and more engulfed by flames, as it gets more and more aggressive.
The only flaw is the silly path finding ai, but that's a common problem in the whole game.

OK, this was really cool! But
after finding out that Gwynevere is just an illusion that Gwendolin created, and accidentally needing to kill Gwndolin
she never went back to the Chamber of the Princess to see Gwynevere. Does she ever go back there?

She does in a future episode.

I miss the Kay that wouldn't have cared about people whining about her tactics...

I feel like she didn't want to cheese the Flamelurker herself first and foremost, and then worried about the people in the comments.
She did start a brand new character just to fight DragonSlayer again, in a fair match.

Just my guess, tho.

Agreed. I don't recall her ever purposely choosing to beat a boss in a way that it couldn't fight back.

ANY WAY, she destroyed Flamelurker AND Dragon God in this latest video! Go Kay, go!

She enjoyed the Old Hero battle, but it's too bad she went in wearing the Thief's Ring.

Thief's Ring is a bit easy mode all around. Maybe she should consider swapping it out for something more exciting.

She also mentioned wanting to fight Black Phantoms. I'd say, start using those Stone of Ephemeral eyes! She'll reach the end of the game and have a bunch of unused items, like I see a lot of people around here have talked about in their RPG experience.

I never used one in my first playthrough... you never know when i may need it for real!

I yet need to watch the latest episode, but i have to spend a few words on the Dragon God encounter, because it frustrates me too much to see that "fight".

Here you have a boss with a badass name, a badass design and, in general, a terrifying setting, completely wasted by weird design decisions.
First of all, the space they put between Flame Lurker and Dragon God is entirely too narrow to build up any sense of real dread and anticipation.
Even if you consider Flame Lurker as some sort of guardian, the presence of an Arch Stone between the two, breaks up the pacing, and just makes the Dragon God look too sudden and random, whereas before the Flame Lurker fight, you get an intricate series of claustrophobic tunnels leading you deeper and deeper, into a huge hall with massive dragon rib cages, and the biggest fog door you've ever seen; you knew shit was about to go down, and that was part of what made the Flame Lurker so terrifying

Before the Dragon God, all you get is a (albeit cool looking) short corridor and a regular fog door.

Then there is the "fight" itself.
I don't have a problem with the idea of puzzle fights really, it keeps things varied and avoids you getting into autopilot mode (a problem Dark Souls 2 has, with all the bosses fighting the same).
I do have a problem, though, when the "puzzle" isn't even a puzzle, and just a "go here and click this shiny object", with the very mild inconvenience of the Boss being able to see you if you stay in the open for more than 40 minutes, and slowly react to that with incredibly ineffective attacks (they at least deal a lot of damage).
And it being constructed of only two, identical elements (the two harpoons) makes it absolutely trivial.

I mean, you don't even have to lure the Dragon God's fist attack to clear the path for you, something that would've been a no brainer.. no, just attack the debris a couple of times and run forward in the very narrow path we've built for you!

I'm mad at it, because you just need to look at how awesome it is to have him breathe, almost dead at the end of the fight, to see what a waste that was, on From's part.
Could've been legendary, but comes off as a joke instead.

I'm so dumb, I didn't even think about the thief's ring impacting this fight - I just always thought it was an easy (but fun) fight. Knew it was blind and heard your footsteps, but didn't think about the ring's impact at all duh! XD

Haha, I love that level and boss fight. Really easy to grind for souls there, too, which is convenient.

Wish she'd craft a boss weapon though.
Meat Cleaver
still stands as the single best use for a boss soul for me.

haha I get a kick out of Kay whipping out the pickaxe and whacking random walls.

Kinda reminds me of the dreaded 'boarded passageway' from her Dark Souls playthrough. She was determined with that, lol.

Flamelurker theme is the greatest of all time.

So this is something quite a lot of you recommend, huh? I watch a lot of EpicNameBro, pretty much the go-to guy for Dark Souls content. I could be persuaded to take a peek at this person. Let's give it a shot.

I'd start from the beginning with her original Dark Souls playthrough. She literally has no clue what she's doing at first, but even in the Asylum she's noticing stuff that I never thought about.

I've been doing so. I am currently on episode 6. I'm enjoying it. I watch ENB, who knows pretty much everything about the series (moreorless), and I haven't been green o the series since 2011. So it's nice to see someone else discover the series as I did. Dark Souls really is a game that is best the first time through, I feel. That feeling of learning is fantastic, and I don't think any other game has given me such satisfaction from those accomplishments as Dark Souls has.

To be fair all the big bosses of their respective archstones were pretty abrupt, if I remember correctly.

Another 1 shot boss, it's Dark Souls 2 deja vu.

More like she knows how to play the game now. Did you guys seriously think that she was going to struggle like she did in Dark Souls? Get real, she's a good gamer, Dark Souls 2 and Demon's Souls was hardly ever going to be a challenge after having experience with a game in the series.

She gets good? Wonderful to hear. I'm on episode 11 of her Dark Souls playthrough and she still doesn't know how to roll. She actually commented on a comment I made and said she does learn how to do that at some point though, haha.

I'm really enjoying her videos- she seems like a really cool person. I like watching someone learn the game, but I will admit I look forward to seeing her know the game mechanics as well.
:P

Edit: And by 'gets good' I, of course, mean 'gits gud.' After all, I'm no casul.

She doesn't just git gud, she gets excellent.

The game has definitely been a challenge for her however. Not as much as a first time Souls player but it hasn't been a cake walk. Flamelurker definitely gave her a challenge and Old Hero would have been more difficult
had she not been wearing the thief's ring
.

it's weird...
When I played through Demon's Souls I didn't appreciate the music (i.e. boss fights). Maybe I was too concentrated on the fights that I tuned out the score, but watching Kay's playthrough has made me appreciate the soundtrack so much more. Armored Spider's boss theme, for example, reminded me of an old kaiju/Godzilla film... and I love that. So much character just in the music.

Makes me wonder what composer Miyazaki's going to use for Bloodborne. :)

Goddamn i *just* finished the Old hero one.

Hilarious how she was talking about random things and checking the loot, while the Old Hero was in the background flailing at nothing, btw.

Another excellent episode! I agree, the Storm King was a fantastic boss fight. Felt really empowering.

I'm really glad she's enjoying the game. Demon's Souls is my favorite game, so it's nice to see someone play it for the first time and love it.

LOL I cannot believe she just said her favorite boss in this game so far is Storm King, that is one of the worst bosses in the whole series. So boring and tedious, the only reason I like it more than Bed of Chaos is it's over quicker. It really puts some of her DS2 boss comments in perspective, the only bosses from 2 I'd consider worse are Ancient Dragon and maybe Vendrick.

Here comes the world tendency
nonsense. The idea may be fine but the execution is poor.

She explained her DkS2 boss comments in the previous videos.
Storm King, as tedious as it gets by the end of it, it's at least more fresh and different, in the context of the whole game.

DeS didn't always hit homeruns with its bosses, but it did try to keep it fresh, and not copy paste the same oversized humanoid over and over.

Storm King is at least considerably different looking, and the revelation that there's a sword that slices beyond it's reach into the sky toward foes she was thinking she wouldn't be able to take down.. well that's pretty startlingly cool.

I honestly never knew Storm Ruler was right there waiting, as if an intended part of the battle. I used a bow because that's how I thought you had to do it. So watching her beat him with the sword was really cool for me too.

They certainly could have done more.. I'm thinking more attack variation, but like UrbanRats says, it's at the very least, really fresh and different.

What. Storm King is amazing. Great looking stage, interesting looking and kind of fun boss, and really cool boss gimmick that I'm surprised they haven't copied again throughout the series. One of the best bosses by far.

I knew about Storm Ruler and was getting very nervous that she'd miss it and think a bow was required. Listening to her sounds of pure joy as she realized the strong attacks devastated the storm beasts was so perfect! :)

Another +1 for Storm King. It might be a gimmick boss, it might be easy but it looks amazing at it first swoops over you very intimidating - the music is also unusually calm. Great Souls boss - gimmick boss done right? :)

I hate those two lizards though, that was so cruel of them to put them their, any time they put two or more together is just evil!
