Kay Plays |OT|

I can't think of a game that I'd enjoy watching Kay play at this point.

She's too smart for most mainstream games.

I'd enjoy a Shadow of the Colossus playthrough but I have a feeling that the mechanics might frustrate her the same way Fez's platforming did. I'm not saying Shadow of the Colossus is a platformer, but still.

I agree.

As i said before Ico and SotC, especially when played together, have a nice world to look at and explore and try to decypher, but the platforming elements (as well as the fact that they're on console) may be a deal breaker.
Plus they're fairly short, so not too tedious.

Something like Skyrim, with a billion different fetch quests, can become very tedious to watch very quickly, i think.

& then, of course, there's always zelda (which she's said she'd comment on down the road). not sure if she's got the necessary hardware/software, but kay vs the water temple? i'd watch :) ...

well, there's that. & there's also the inability of some people (not yourself) to understand that what they find enjoyable isn't necessarily enjoyable to others...
 
OKD is still wrecking fools i see. The moment you bring him down to 50% and he starts his barrage of HARD hitting attacks was a real WTF moment for me. Almost maxed Purple Flame Shield and my stamina still evaporated under his hits.
 
I don't think PT has anything to do with the Silent Hill suggestions. Those games are just spiritually aligned with the Souls games in many ways, I think that's why people suggest them. If anything, I doubt Kojima's stab at the series will be anywhere near as allusive in its storytelling, being understated isn't something that's really ever been present in his work.

Yeah i was joking of course, when i blamed Kojima.

Personally, i originally suggested she played Silent Hill was because it's a game, as you say, aligned in many ways with what she seems to enjoy about Souls games: Exploring every nook and cranny, reading various files and scraps of paper to decipher the interconnected and complex lore.

However i do feel my passion for the series a bit reignited, because PT looks like such a competent horror (if not exactly a Silent Hill).
There are a few moments, especially with that radio broadcast and backstory, that could be directly ported to a new SH, though.
 
Speaking of games that are close to the Souls games, the combat system of Monster Hunter is extremely similar.

Has no lore or investigative elements though, and its progression isn't suited to a "playthrough" video series unless you set some fairly specific goals in advance.

But if you're ever looking to replicate that particular feeling of Souls combat, MH are your games.


Silent Hill is a game that rewards observation and "piecing" together story and lore bits, in that vein I reiterate that any of the Bioshocks would also fit well.
 
That was a fun final fight vs False King Allant, I wish Kay you had done a final lap of the areas to tie up loose ends (world 5 black world tendency, Old King Doran, Yuria, Mephistopheles etc) but there wasn't much else to do really.

Another really enjoyable LP, and I did another playthrough myself in the middle of the series and it really cemented how Demon's is my favourite in the series. I love the world of Dark Souls 1, but Demon's is a really special self-contained game.

Look forward to follow up videos, Q&A etc. :)
 
actually come to think of it, hitman games really would be perfect for her. they have exploration and challenge, and different approaches to missions.

YES! Kay if you see this, play Hitman Bloody Money. That game is perfect for thinking thing through and rewards exploration and experimentation.
 
One thing I noticed after watching twitch streams so much, if this was livestreamed ( or any other lets play) it would be a lot more enjoyable.
 
I gave watching these a try because of the GAF hype.

I don't know what it is, but I can't stand her voice. There's something about the tone and slight croakiness that makes it unwatchable.

I wouldn't quite say that. The hitbox, timing and stamina management heavy MH combat could be close to Souls, but the damage numbers, general combat and enemy design keep it very different. Good games still, have 300+ hours on MHFU. My wrists hurt just thinking about it

Now, if you want something that feels a lot like a Souls game, you want Blade of Darkness. While jankier than either of those games (tank controls out of combat), it has the same emphasis on careful duels, punishing missed attacks, strafing, rolling, and careful progression through levels because there are traps, ambushes and wary enemies everywhere that might hear your approach.
 
So any word on what she might do next, or a follow-up video with comments on the Souls series?

I know she got approved for neogaf recently, and now that her playthrough is done, I was hoping to see her post a bit about her thoughts on the games she's played.

I'm certain she has a less than stellar mic.
 
Cool, Kay's "origin story" was pretty interesting and that's a second playthrough of someone who's figured out the game for ya, those poor bosses. Also RIP Priscilla this time I guess, murderous Kay is comin' for yer tail.
 
This new thing is basically a Kay QnA - which is great!

Really interesting to hear her talk about her history after listening to her for god knows how many hours over three full games.

This was like a Kay Plays combined with a podcast, can't wait for more.
 
Watched ep1.
This is a nice way to do Q&A, as i can watch on and off, while doing other things, but still enjoy a second playthrough of the game.

Had she put music in certain pieces, it would've been like Vageta's Calamity Ring challenge playthrough, in terms of structure.

As a sidenote, YouTube's layout seems all broken up for me today, could be one of the Firefox addons, i'll look into it.
Anybody else having problems?
EDIT: Oh they just changed layout again.
 
So she's finally started posting her second Dark Souls run? Man, I'm dying to watch this, but I need to get caught up on her Demons LP first.

Really? Maybe it's because I've listened to too many LPers being loud and obnoxious, but I find Kay's voice incredibly relaxing.
 
Goodluck with Antichamber. It has been sitting in my own Steam account since I got it on Humble Bundle a while back. Might try to experience the game before the video series goes up.

I reckon you'll be really into that. Careful about playing too early in the morning though; people will get antsy if you don't instantly spot the solution to every puzzle.

Are you going to play with keyboard and mouse or a controller?

I have a suggestion for your Dark Souls 2 playthrough: play it in NG+. The base game changes significantly.

Ooh, she'd have to play in ironman mode of course. I played it in normal mode and felt it was kinda like the enemies running at my bullets. I'd like to see it played in classic or impossible.
 
Kay, you discussed the chosen undead being misled in episode 2. You should look into the fate of New Londo. You are definitely being misled, but it might be by more parties than you think.
 
Antichamber, is a very unique choice, quite a departure. But it'll be nice to see someone observant play it since I'm crazy stuck in it anyway.
