Kay Plays |OT|

You know, hopefully minus the Claire Danes crazy face and screaming.

I forgot that was even Homeland in the photo. I just searched "Crazy Wall of Clues"

When Kay said something along the lines of "I might have to do a map of this", that was the image that popped into my head.

Fantastic choice and the first three episodes were already very entertaining. Looking forward to her tackling the harder puzzles. :D It's an amazing game and rewards patience, observation, puzzle-solving skills and a little bit of ingenuity, while also being entertaining to watch due to the striking audiovisual experience and art style, which elevates it as a game to stream compared to pretty much every other puzzle game.

Well done, Kay.

An easily misunderstood element of Antichamber, because this game does it differently than basically every other videogame:
the little signs aren't hints for the next puzzle, they're the underlying lesson of the previous one. You should feel yourself nodding along in agreement in hindsight for these. :D

Looking at the Youtube Views, this new series does not seem to be striking the same chord with people that Souls did - which is disappointing. I hope she goes on with it though, as it is still enjoying, albeit in different way that the Souls game were.

After three videos I'd almost argue that Antichamber does not suit Kay as much as the Souls' games did, as she seems almost overly analytic at times. This works for Souls, but some of the solutions to Antichamber can come from gut instinct, which she always seem to they and suppress - rarely jumping from A - B unless there is some tiny line to connect the two.

Regardless, it is a fun playthrough

I've skipped it, partially because it's a bad game, but more because it's short, not much point compared to a large game like the Souls games.

I'm going to post a few more episodes of Antichamber that I recorded last week, then take a break from it. I keep ending up looped back to chambers I've been in, even after P gave me a crash course on reading the map, so I end up recording way more footage than necessary for each episode. Too much time trying to find new ways to go + not enough time in puzzle chambers = much less fun playing (and probably watching) experience.

So, break time!

Great job today with the four-fuses puzzle. That one got the better of me, I must admit. I didn't expect it to require such precise timing and assumed I was missing something... and in a way, I was. I don't want to spoil anything by saying any more...

You're pretty close to the end, Kay. Could you not persevere just a little longer? I've been really enjoying this series.

I can understand why she'd want to stop presenting videos. Antichamber is definitely the sort of game that can make you just wander around and poking at things until you figure out where you need to go.

It's a wonderful wonderful puzzle metroidvania and easily one of the better games from last year, but as a Let's Play game it runs out of really good viewing content if the person playing isn't fortunate enough to poke in the right directions.

A lot of the game stars overlapping and you start running around in circles as you progressively get more tools.

I'll spoiler tag this last part because it is somewhat spoilery in terms of progression even though it's not something content-related:
And unlike the guns, there is only *one* way to the end. So if you don't stumble on to it, you will literally be going in circles and finding just easter eggs instead of progress.

Antichamber is a game you complete once.

Either you're glad it's over and you finally did it. Or you loved your time with it so much (as I did) that you then go back and try to solve every puzzle and explore every chamber and click every sign and find every purple cube
and the secret dev rooms.

It's really fun to see the logical-minded Kay trying to make sense of her non-Euclidean surroundings, though. :D

You wound me, Stu.

Antichamber was one of my very favourite games of last year and one of the best puzzle games I've ever played.

Kay, you're awesome girl, love your series hon!! \( ^.^ )

Play Deus Ex instead.
If I say it enough times maybe it'll happen!

Antichamber 100% done!
I think I want her to play Legend of Grimrock next but I'll watch anything she want.

She has mentioned Fallout 3 and people keep recommending New Vegas. Although I also prefer New Vegas as a game I actually think I would like to see her play F3 more since it has more of the Souls unexplained lore. Seeing her play F3 would most likely blow my mind to the things I missed!

Of course Wasteland 2 is better than both F3 and NV but I'm not sure it will be a better viewing experience.

Just got done with watching Antichamber myself. Thought it was fun. I have no idea what she would play next. Maybe a solid break to make sure not to get burned out on making "content", and fall into the tap of games been no longer fun to play due to getting jaded.

The Souls series were the perfect mix (interesting enough for her to play, and compelling for an audience to watch). Don't think anything can follow it (other than Bloodborne of course). If Lords of the Fallen turns out good it might be nice.

Maybe go wild and play this....

Her reactions to watching that madness unfold would be great!

Dragons Dogma is cool but it definitely lacks the depth of the Souls games.

It hard to find games that combine gameplay and mental dexterity in the way the Souls games do.
That is the problem, the only series I know of is Silent Hill, and she doesn't like horror stuff. Everything is either a richly constructed world and bland design, like Nier, or the opposite, like Dragon's Dogma.

There's Ico, the best game ever, but it's six hours long, not much point.

How about that Sherlock Crimes & Punishments game?

I played their previous Sherlock Holmes games (Jack the ripper and Testament) and I thought they were really good adventure games. My only problem was when I played on 360 it glitched whenever I controlled the dog it wouldn't stop moving forward after letting go of the analog stick.

Maybe Kay should just completely switch genres like crazy. Would be interesting to see her tackle Civ or something? I dunno.

StarCraft 2 has some fun player choices through evolution/developments and little story things. That might be a great one.

No problem <3 all your efforts on the lets plays anyway.
Take your time and just make sure that what ever game you choose you enjoy it because if your enjoying it then your enthusiasm will come trough on the video for us as well.
:)

I recently played Ico for the first time, it's great. I played it in short sessions over several weeks, so it felt longer.

It's not the type of game that gets made in the mainstream market anymore (even when it first came out)... are there any "indy" games that are similar? Journey had some Ico vibe, but without any real puzzles to speak of.

Kay, have you played Dark Messiah of Might and Magic? It's not too dissimilar from Skyrim and Dark Souls, in a way.

I finished watching her Dark Souls LP the other night after watching a few parts each night. That was neat seeing the improvement over all of those videos, even if she tried to parry everything until the very end (though I guess that worked out quite nicely in her favor).

Already a few videos into the Dark Souls 2 videos now. I'm interested to see if this whole thing about wanting to light every torch is going to continue into future videos.

By all means, someone spoil for me whether or not she eventually gives up doing that.

Unfortunately, not really. There are two which people typically cite as Ico-esque, Papo & Yo and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, neither of which I would recommend, but they certainly have plenty of fans which think very highly of them.

Fingers crossed for Rime, and maybe even one day The Last Guardian, to scratch that chronic Ico itch.

I think Nier gave me the most literal Ico vibes, it has some bizarre parallels actually, but it's far from that elegance of design or reductive quality, it's also more or less a Zelda clone, not a straight puzzle game.

Yup, come on, now. This is what Kay needs to do, she said she would after all 3 dlc released so I imagine she'll get on it soon if she hasn't forgotten.

I don't think she plans too. She said she was taking a break. So, I assume she won't. She probably won't.

There is "Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom" which I got major Ico-feelings.

Limbo, maybe?

Just watched a ton of her souls stuff over the weekend. It is so refreshing to have someone play smart and not use a shtick. Her voice is very calm and relaxed and she does a great job of dictating her thought process when figuring out puzzles and lore. Subscribed to her channel.

Just watched the update video, and not logged in to youtube so I'll comment here: I agree Minecraft LPs can be kind of boring to watch unless there's something really unique going on. I like watching videos of people making unique things though, stuff with redstone and creations that "do" something, it sparks the imagination and gives me a reason to hop back in myself.

Fallout NV and DS2 DLC sounds great though. :)

Personally, I would love to see Kay try out:
  • (The) Banner Saga
  • Planescape Torment -- Given that the proper mods are installed, e.g. link.
  • Resident Evil 4 -- This isn't too scary I think.
  • The Witcher 2 -- I think the second game would be more appropriate.

How about that Sherlock Crimes & Punishments game?
This, or any other mystery/detective game would most probably be awesome!

If there would be even one video I hope she hasn't done Vault 11 in New Vegas yet, because that would be pretty interesting to see her live commentary on.

Minecraft Let's Plays are pretty boring, though so might be watching Fallout 3 without live commentary. :(

Aside from the DS2 DLC, I absolutely second the Sherlock Holmes and Resident Evil 4 recommendations. Very different games, obviously, but all should be entertaining to watch her play and react to live!

Maybe even the Vanishing of Ethan Carter for another smaller, bite-sized game inbetween juggernauts.

If Kay likes Minecraft, then why not...

Seem a good choice to go into blind. Lots of stuff to find out and learn, so it seems like something she might end up liking. Lots of different ways to play it. Good stopping points, so it suits making episodic videos. Open ended, so she could stop at any point.

Although, to be quite honest, I would be down for anything if she decides to record another video

I'd love to see Planescape Torment but I dont know if she can deal with an old school iso rpg. It can turn off a lot of people.

Starting an NG+ run for the DLC after getting burned out on the game is the perfect way to get burned out on the game again before reaching them. :lol

Here's hoping I'm wrong! All new areas were great, really looking forward to seeing her reaction to and opinion of them. :)

edit: the sound mixing in the newest episode, oy vey!

Dealing with the DLC enemies and bosses for the first time on ng+ (which definitely effects them more than the base game enemies) is probably not gonna go well.

Haven't played the DLC myself so I might hold off watching this series but is it also a treasure hunt like AotA was to find their locations?
