Choosing another name would be a start. I mean, yes, they had the name first but when you depend on other people's money you can't just go at it like that.

Target: $7,500
Deadline: 29 June

"AURO is a turn-based, dungeon crawling strategy game that will be released on many platforms: iOS, Android, Windows, OSX, Linux, and more."

They previously made the roguelike 100 Rogues on iOS. They've already put a lot of time into Auro and I think they're asking a very reasonable amount.
For the new page.

Choosing another name would be a start. I mean, yes, they had the name first but when you depend on other people's money you can't just go at it like that.

I don't think it's the name that's the problem. If anything, the name is probably the only reason people noticed it in the first place.

I think adventure games are just a hard sell - it's not a genre that has gone away, they're lower profile than they used to be, but they still exist. Indeed, among casual gamers, adventure games, or something resembling them (IHOGs) are extremely popular, but unfortunately have also likely lowered the bar for what people are willing to pay.

Other than Double Fine, look at the track record - LSL got 600k, Jane Jensen 430k, Tex Murphy will probably make 500k at the end, but only just, and the Spacequest guys might not even make that.

What's the difference? Basically I would it's because Double Fine has cultivated a fanbase in the current generation of gamers, including in the media, whereas the others are mostly relying on nostalgia.

And this doesn't really even have nostalgia. I think I might have seen it in game stores, but it could be my memory playing tricks on me. Certainly not well known.

There's something curious going on with Project Fedora. Apparently the drive to 4500 backers had some significance beyond the 'Tex is kidnapped' premise, with big news coming from that on Wednesday?

Wonder if there's an angel investor adding a chunk onto the Project Fedora total if it meets its goal?

I love both Ground Branch and Dead State concepts, but seriously..what in the world where they thinking launching it early june? Zero chances of not getting drowned by E3 media storm.

I couldn't agree more. Starting a Kickstarter project on the week of E3 should generally be avoided.

Anyway updated post 744 with Dead State: Link .

Also I keep looking at the Carmageddon Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stainlessgames/carmageddon-reincarnation?ref=live

20 hours to go to reach: $31,230. They should be able to hit it soon!

We are starting an Indiegogo/Kickstarter (probably the first as we are europe based) soon. Do you think these perks would be appealing?

(unlimited) $5 - Our thanks and your name on the "The folks who made this game possible" scroll.
(unlimited) $10 - A gift code for the game + name higher on the scroll (first come first serve)
(50 slots) $20 - Your name on a gravestone + gift code
(unlimited) $50 - Lifetime subscription for all our future games and addons + your name on a crypta
(30 slots) $80 - Your names carved into a tree in a heart, 2 gift codes
(30 slots) $100 - Be there from alpha version later this year + credited on "Special thanks" or "Game tester"
(20 slot) $250 - Be there early in development. Get your build when campaign ends, use the level editor, your feedback and ideas will make it into the game. Credited as game designer.
(10 slots) $500 - Your noble city house in the game. Take shelter from the undead where all others just face locked doors. Sit in front of the fireplace, heal your wounds and have a look at your family portraits. Your name as Lord or Lady on the door and all official documents so you can call yourself Lord or Lady in real life too.
(5 slots) $800 - Your mansion in the game only you can enter. Take shelter from the monsters of the dark woods, walk a hall with your family portraits. Your names as Lord and Lady on the gate and all official documents so you can call yourself Lord & Lady in real life too.
(5 slot) $1000 - A monster designed based on your idea, you get the original concept art drawing. Credited under "monster design" and in game where it fits.
(3 slots) $5000 - Your name in the credits as an executive producer. Your new iPad protected by finest leather arrives with early dev access for this and all our future games.

It is for an iOS Dungeon Master/Eye of the Beholder type game with up-to-date graphics and some 15h playtime. We need some $8000 to have or 3D artist work only for us for half a year, the other two team members are self-funded.

Maybe it is just the E3 masses, but PC isn't getting a lot of love at E3.
PC never gets "love" at E3 cause E3 is all about brand promotion and marketing push, and no one is strictly interested to push the PC as a platform.
So even when many of the most impressive titles at E3 are actually running on a PC (Watch Dogs, SW 1313, FC3, AC3) the publishers and the press talk just about their console versions, for this or the "next" gen.
And when it's just about impressive PC exclusives (Planetside 2, Arma 3), you need to rely on PC-centric sites or Youtube podcasters, cause once again the press doesn't care.

As I already stated in the past, that's exactly why I like GamesCom way more. Because GamesCom has its focus on the actual games, and that's where the PC shines.

I was approximately right. Seven donors willing to donate $4000 for every $6000 raised.

It's given the project a *phenomenal* boost. $50,000 raised since it was announced, and now it's only got to get $25k in nine days.

I wonder if we have reached the point where gamers realise they can leverage their power over a developer to make them dance the tune of choice. Post republique. I thought this'd get 150k in a day or two.

Maybe it is just the E3 masses, but PC isn't getting a lot of love at E3.

Umm..they got a third of their goal in the first day, they're doing great.

Also, PC secretly won E3. Each console had like 2 exclusives and pretty much every other game in the next year will come out on PC. :P
Plus what Tuco said.

EDIT: Also, in the time it took to type this post, the Two Guys SpaceVenture project had 27 updates.

He should scrap iOS first IMO.

Because iOS is not the gold mine everyone thought it was, or because you personally don't like iOS Gaming?

I don't think you realize that he can't just press a button and all of the sudden the game would work on PC and consoles.

This is assuming that any work at all has started on his project.

EDIT: Also, in the time it took to type this post, the Two Guys SpaceVenture project had 27 updates.

I was going to make a joke about the Two Guys making a big push to beat 1 update per day over the duration of the Kickstarter. Unfortunately, I then did the maths and discovered that they're already ten over that!

Yeah, IndieGoGo is still used, but it nowhere near as popular or efficient as Kickstarter.

Seems like the Angry Video Game Nerd ended up with the most successful gaming related project on IndieGoGo so far.

Also, new updates for post 744 (these updates should really all be pushed to the front page.)

More successfully funded projects:

Carmageddon: $625,143
Pathfinder Online Technology Demo: $307,843
Redux: Dark Matters for Sega Dreamcast: $53,121
Malevolence - The INFINITE RPG!: $30,871

Recent unsuccessful projects:
The Indie Console

also...

Xenonauts has 37 hours to go and has surpassed it's funding goal by about $80k
Paper Knights Story made by a fellow NeoGaffer has past its goal of $1,000 dollars by $400 dollars with 36 hours to go.
Two Guys Spaceventure has 3 days left to go and still needs less than $100k.
Tex Murphy - Project Fedora has hit its goal with 6 days left to go!

And...

Project-X Video Game Battle Suit has $1.00 worth of funding with 4 days to go! Sorry, but this one makes me laugh.

Hey all I have made update to my kickstarter. Also it's obvious that the pledging is not looking so good but I am still pushing and if any gaffers want to help (tweet, like on facebook) that would be great.

Thanks. :)

We're having the same problem with the All Games Radio kickstarter. Press releases and social media and internet seem to only go so far. 40k short and 11 days to go.

D

Xenonauts only atm.

Wish I had funded Grim Dawn, Banner Saga, Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun. I just might chip in for Dead State and Retrovirus though, don't know yet.

Was Retrovirus even mentioned in this thread? It's a Descent-like six-axis shooter and looks pretty... decent.

What games are people proudly Kickstarting?

Mine are

Wasteland 2

Shadowrun

Dead State
So far, DFA, Wasteland 2, The Banner Saga Shadowrun and Dead State. I backed out of TAKEDOWN and Republique, the first because I didn't like that whole "investors" deal, and I was short on cash on my bank account for Republique.

I'm now kinda feeling like pledging towards the Nuka Break Kickstarter (yeah, it's not a game but it's game-related stuff) since they added t-shirts for $35 and really, clothes are expensive as fuck these days in Argentina, so it'll be like buying a shirt off a store...

I have done:

DFA
Wasteland 2
Shadowrun
Kinetic Void
Starflight Inception
Grim Dawn
Xenonauts
Republique
Pinball Arcade
Drifter
FTL
Americana Dawn
Diamond Trust of London
And a few more I can't remember. Think I have 18 backed projects

Nice. Out of the 45 projects I've backed, I think 10 have been games, but only 4 have been this year.

DFA
Wasteland 2
Banner Saga
Word Realms

I would like to contribute more, but my budget won't allow me to. Gotta have priorities, and I already hit my KS limit last month. My current budget won't allow me to KS for a bit.

A kickstarter about a sword fighting game, developed with actual experts of medieval fencing.
And their pitch video features a Gabe Newell cameo.

EDIT: yeah, well, looks like I was late on this. There is already a thread about it.

I am rather interested in what 'off the shelf' hardware peripheral they're talking about. It looks like it will be a really well put together sword fighter at some point, and I will likely look into buying it when that becomes the case, but I'm hesitant to back this until more info is released.

As for games I've backed (that have been successfully funded):
Starlight Inception
Nekro
Manos HD (film)
Spirit of the Century: Dinocalypse Trilogy (books)

I'm thinking about backing Dead State and Ground Branch as well, but I'll have to see about the spare cash, given their more recent kickoffs.

My bank account is officially dead. I have enough for TGA, but my Tex pledge is gonna be down to exchange rate :(

I'm sorry if any great Kickstarters are launched in the remainder of this year - I will be likely to give them a miss.

I have so far backed:
DFA
Wasteland 2
Bannersaga
Drifter
Shadowrun returns
Jane Jensen
FTL: Faster Than Light

Razer Hydra.
What controller are you using?
This isn’t a binding commitment, because plans can always change, but: we are big fans of the Sixense technology as embodied in the Razer Hydra controller. The engineering team at Sixense has found a way to make an extremely high-resolution, low-latency controller by making ingenious use of simple and inexpensive components. We intend to make CLANG work on any hardware that supports the same protocol.

Will it run on Kinect, Wii or Move?
Not at first.
We don’t have unlimited resources and so we have to focus on a single clear achievable goal. After evaluating all of the options out there, we’ve decided that a PC game using the Sixense technology is the best thing to start with.

Why not use Wii, Kinect or Move? So many people have them. (what is wrong with them?)
Latency and spatial resolution.

Just going by the involvement of Valve, I'd go with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-uBipMTemM

Edit :Damn you, Tuco! You posted up just as I was looking that half-remembered thing up!

What games are people proudly Kickstarting?

Mine are

Wasteland 2

Shadowrun

Dead State

double fine adventure
wasteland 2
shadowrun returns
two guys space quest whatever
reap
diamond trust of london

i backed one or two others that didnt make it. these are the successful or ongoing ones. though as the dev in this thread said, it isnt looking good for reap.

I backed
Class of Heroes II (failed)
Shadowrun Returns
Wasteland 2
Cross of the Dutchman (failed)
Clang (ongoing, likely to succeed)

Interesting Kickstarter statistics. Only 43% of all game projects are successful:
http://www.appsblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/kickstarter-infographic-by-appsblogger.png

Interesting statistics...

43% of 1729 games would be about 743.47 (now sure how the .47% would work out :P ) successful game titles. Though it is also interesting to point out that not all games trying to get funding are video games.

If you look in the game section, there are a lot of pen and paper games as well as card and board games listed too. I'm actually kind of surprised at how much funding some of the pen and paper/ board and card games receive. I never really knew that there was a big interest in those traditional game genres still.

Though it is also interesting to note that games get the third highest amount of backers out of all the categories and forth in money generated, despite being number seven in projects submitted.

Though, 43% seems about expected to me. Especially when you consider the finicky nature of most gaming circles.

Can anyone answer this?
I went to the amazon payments page to see my account. I have only Tex at the moment.
In the Manage My Payment Authorizations, I click details and get:

Multiple Payment Authorization

This Payment Authorization allows Kickstarter to charge you multiple times automatically for your purchase on http://www.kickstarter.com

blah blah...

What does it mean by multiple times?

Fuck it, posting this here as well:

Retrovirus by Cadenza Interactive

WATCH THIS:

Alpha Gameplay Trailer

Retrovirus is a Descent-inspired six-axis shooter, with levels designed to force players to think off the ground and out of the box. Its pacing is similar to classic shooters like Quake and Unreal Tournament, and agile movement is at the core of the experience. Retrovirus also features a unique arsenal of weapons that do more than just dish out damage. By scanning residual weapon effects in the world, you can create gravity wells, knock enemies around or trigger charged blasts on groups of enemies.

Features:

  • 5 to 6 hour single player / co-op campaign
  • a world designed around the unique features of six degrees of freedom movement
  • weapons designed to give players both damage and control of space
  • decision-based AI for unscripted level encounters
  • DOTA-style FPS MOBA multiplayer
  • classic Domination / Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch multiplayer

Story:

In Retrovirus, you are the Agent of an anti-virus program fighting against a viral army that has rapidly taken over parts of your system. Called on to respond to the crisis, you must defend the system and remove the virus before it can corrupt and destroy your world. In doing so, you'll explore a surreal software environment that pieces fragments of human reality into the fabric of its own world.

Retrovirus also features a dual narrative, bringing in the fictional people to whom this computer is important along with their personal dramas and real-world implications if the system is allowed to fall.

Yea, thanks for the early support, but the project never took off. I have some videos of the PC version of the game coming as I am still trucking along, though it's going to be sometime before I get music and sound effects into the game cause of my funds.

Thanks again :-)
