I'm planning on backing Retrovirus and Dead State.

Yea, thanks for the early support, but the project never took off. I have some videos of the PC version of the game coming as I am still trucking along, though it's going to be sometime before I get music and sound effects into the game cause of my funds.

Thanks again :-)

no worries. let me know if you try again. just post in this thread and ill back.

Just thought I would add another new update to post 744.

New successfully funded games:

- MaKey MaKey: An Invention Kit for Everyone ($568,106)
- Two Guys Spaceventure -By the Creators of Space Quest ($539,767 | Thread)
- Xenonauts($154,715 | Thread)
- Paper Knight's Story -by udivision ($1,644)

There are already 11 games listed that have more than $500k in funding, that's pretty good!

Games that didn't make it include :

- Project-X Video Game Battle Suit (Ends Jun 13th) (It made $2.00 with a total of 2 backers. :P )

Games ending soon:

- MICROMON: A Monster Capture Game for Mobile Devices (Ends Jun 15th) (this one probably won't make it)
- Tex Murphy's Project Fedora (Ends Jun 16th | Thread ) (surpassed funding goal a few days ago!)
- Tropes vs. Women in Video Games (Ends Jun 16th) (well past its funding goal of $6,000)

Other games that met their funding goal:

- Auro (Ends Jun 29th )
- Lilly Looking Through: An animated adventure game (Ends Jun30th )

Also added:

- The Crystal Catacombs(Ends July 6th)

I love how most of the donations came in response to all the death threats she was getting.

Sounds like she falls under the damsel in distress trope to me...

But really, people were sending her death threats over this? Seriously? I haven't been following the female tropes thread myself, but that is just crazy...

That.

Wow.

Assholes send death threats over the smallest shit. We're on a gaming forum; people sent Nintendo death threats over Wii Fit.

You have a bunch of hormonal males, some of which subscribe to the idea that you shouldn't think while playing an interactive game, who are now seeing a woman as a threat. They see an uber-feminist. They see a man-hater.

Oh, not to mention all of the anti-semetic comments made against her. My favorite has to be the guy that had to point out that she was Jewish by talking about her facial features.

That.

Wow.

I couldn't resist. That was left out in the open. :P

Ah I see. That's pretty sad, but non too surprising... Unfortunately that's what happens when you publicly display yourself on the internet while trying to present analytical or social commentary with a formal opinion.

And the Jewish comments sound like an average low ball insult to me.... But I have a feeling that the majority of these comments are empty threats made by adolescent teenagers and internet tough guys who have a chip on their shoulder.

I'm sure the majority of those comments will be forgotten over time...

There's a "Tropes vs. Men in Video Games". It's not on Kickstarter because they decided against it. There's a Google Doc lying around.

One of the tropes is "being gay" or something like that.

As an RPS article mentioned earlier today, there probably is a case to be made for Tropes vs Men in Games, but not as a snide attack of Tropes vs Females, which this obviously is.

Oh.. So they ended up cancelling Police Warfare, I was interested in seeing how that would go.

From what I understand Police Warfare may have been picked up by an outside backer or possibly even a game publisher.

Their last update from April 21st:
Thank you so much for the incredible response to the game. We're shutting down the kickstarter account but this is by no means the end of Police Warfare. News will be coming.

Right now, Ground Branch is about the closest thing to Police Warfare on Kickstarter.

Creatively bankrupt person(s) create creatively bankrupt parody Kickstarter of creatively bankrupt webvideo series written in a creatively bankrupt approximation of a beloved gaming dialect.

I think I covered everything there?

You missed one.

So I decided I'm gonna cancel the Reap! Kickstarter to reevaluate and maybe relaunch sometime down the road. Thanks again my initial backers.

Someone wants to make a new version of M.U.L.E.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1547218311/alpha-colony-a-tribute-to-mule

It's a little confusing, apparently it's for two games. They've licensed the M.U.L.E. IP from the creator's family and are going to make a remake (called M.U.L.E. Returns), but also make a "tribute" game called "Alpha Colony"

But M.U.L.E. Returns will only be for iOS/Android, while Alpha Colony will be for Mac/PC and iOS.

They also want $500,000 for it, and have $11,000 with 28 days to go.

The people behind it, DreamQuest Games seem to have mostly made traditional board and card games.

The M.U.L .E. remake sounds great. If this Kickstarter was based solely on that premise alone, it would probably be getting a lot more attention. But I think including a M.U.L.E tribute game with the package might only confuse potential backers.

I am going to take a guess and say that they could get the rights to make M.U.L.E., but they couldn't obtain the rights to make a home PC version of the game. The home PC rights are probably locked up with another game publisher. Most likely EA. So they opted to make a clone for PC, and make a true sequel for a non-home computer platform.

I was planning to cancel the Reap! Kickstarter then I just decided to let it run it's course. I've seen a little interest coming in. So I am planning to relaunch in a month with a refocus excluding the Upgraded Unity engine and concentrate on only middleware and the sound design of the game, which means a more viable goal. But I need to get the interest going before the relaunch so all new updates will continue on the blog. Thanks all!

I won't lie..I laughed at it :D
THis idea could actually be used to make a great humoristic series, considering how thoughtlessly we slaughter all those monsters in games without thinking :D
There was one Writting Excuses podcast that focused on this and they gave awesome example of gamers killing tons of orcs and then entering a village and seeing baskets with baby orcs, orphaned because of us. Their conclusion was that in such situation gamers would pick the basket and ask the GM: "how many points of damage does it do"? :D

Ok, new updates for post 744.

successfully funded games recently added:

- Tex Murphy's Project Fedora ($598,104 | Thread )
- Tropes vs. Women in Video Games ($158,917)
- "Fallout: Nuka Break" Season 2 ($130,746)
- Pinball Arcade: The Twilight Zone ($77,499 | Thread) -Sadly it didn't reach the Star Trek: TGN stretch goal...

Games that didn't make it include :

- MICROMON: A Monster Capture Game for Mobile Devices - It wasn't even close to reaching its goal.
- Reap! - Ah, shame it didn't make it, jrDev :/ . It looked decent for an iOS title.

Games ending soon:

- All Games Radio Network (Ends Jun 21st) Still has $39k to go...
- Mr Poopie (Ends Jun 22nd) err, yeah...

Other games that met their funding goals:

- The Return of Tom vs. Bruce (Ends Jun 28th | Thread)
- Zombie Playground (#zpg) - 3D Action, Online Battle RPG (Ends Jun 26th)
- Quest For Infamy - An Adventure Game By Infamous Quests (Ends July 6th)
- The Crystal Catacombs(Ends July 6th)

And...

- Dead State: The Zombie Survival RPG (Ends Jul 5th) is only $20k away from reaching its goal... it's already at $132,155.
- Alpha Colony: A Tribute to M.U.L.E. (Ends Jul 15th) Was also added. This one is worth looking into if you have any interest in all in the classic M.U.L.E. I'm almost tempted in making an official thread for this one. But I don't think many people will take interest in it.

This is kind of interesting - The Repopulation - it's a Sandbox Sci-Fi MMORPG

The Repopulation is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. The action takes place on the planet Rhyldan, with the only known remaining human population fighting for their very existence. The indigenous life forms did not meet their colonization efforts with open arms. Worse yet, humans have managed to splinter themselves into warring factions.

It is a sandbox oriented MMORPG with an eye on innovation. Rather than forcing players down preset paths they are instead allowed to walk the path which they enjoy the most. With a variety of combat oriented and non-combat activities to pursue, we believe we’ve created a game that can stand the test of time.

On the other hand, it's seemingly going to ship next year anyway and it's going to be a free to play title. But they didn't ask for much money and have already met their goal.

Hey guys, wanted to see what you think of my roommate's kickstarter.
He works on it constantly, when he should be hanging out with me.
Here: http://kck.st/MlkjhG

Paper Sorcerer is a first-person turn-based RPG with adventure game elements inspired by Wizardry, Dungeons and Dragons, and Shadowgate.
For those who haven't played Wizardry, it plays kinda like Etrian Odyssey.

Done it. :P

This looks pretty awesome. And on top of that, your room mate isn't asking for an absurd amount of money to get this funded. $5,000 sounds pretty reasonable for a game being developed by one person. I would imagine that he will hit that goal pretty easily.

Art style looks a bit like Mad World. But the art style is all done with 2D sprites.

Hmm... better get dibs on Paper Archer...

Kidding aside, my only experience with that kind of RPG is Etrian Odyssey, so it does look rather interesting.

For $3 on all devices, it sounds rather fine!

Tell your friend that if he promises to do an Android version, I'll order. DO WE HAVE A DEAL?

Edit: Oh wait I guess we do it's on the game info.

Hi guys my friend and I have been working on an iOS and Android game for the last 8 months.

The game is called Spinlanders. We take a traditional card based RPG mechanic and throw it into a slot machine. There are three playable characters, plenty of loot, and all the monsters you would want to kill.

We are looking for funding to help cover music, porting and extra development costs.

Please check out our video and kickstarter page.

This looks really rad! Btw is the android port handled in house?

Also might I suggest you add a $15 tier reward?

The $20 jump between the first and second tier is kinda big.

Thanks. Android and tablet versions will be done in house. We'll think about another reward tier.

What it said was:

It will probably have an average price of $5, but could be more or less depending on the platform. Keep in mind that price is not confirmed. It's pretty hard to know exactly what it will be since I am new to this whole "selling games" thing.

And the game was listed in the $25 tier:
For just $25 you will receive a free copy of the game and get access to a private forum on the Exploding Rabbit Forums.

Still shows up in the google search.

Still, for someone new to selling, that's a pretty big fucking mistake.

If I was thinking of giving him monies, that alone would make me go the other way.
