Kiefer Sutherland is the new Snake

Konami just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about video game culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Hollywood where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in video games, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the video game public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase MGSV for either system, nor will they purchase any of Konami's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Konami has alienated an entire market with this move.

Konami, publicly apologize and cancel Kiefer Sutherland as Snake or you can kiss your business goodbye.

bravo.

I think it was a union/SAG thing at the time.

Pretty much all the actors did, even Jennifer Hale.

Ah, makes sense.

I just posted that I believed he would return at some point as well, but after seeing these tweets... not so much. It definitely makes me view him a little differently.

Yeah but the tweets could be a bit of trolling with Kojima's permission. We will find out @ E3.....or when we play the game.

If Big Boss's story goes on a few years, it can show Big Boss meeting Solid Snake(Hayter).

Only time will tell.

Step away from the vidyer games.

EDIT: Now that I read the whole post, not sure if trolling.

Also, didn't Hayter go under a different name for MGS1 because he didn't want his professional name attached to a videogame?

Not trying to start rumors, or tie bad news to him, but this talk of him being revered and respectful to the series has got me thinking.

That was most likely due to Union/Non-Union issues that tend to occur in voice acting.

I can't tell if this is serious or not. Help me out here.

I'm being entirely serious. I can probably only fit a few games into my schedule now, and I don't really enjoy them as much as I used to. If there's something that irks me about a game, it's very easy for me to remove it from "the list".Lol I'm just thinking to myself that at least a few people my age share my line of thinking, and gave my reasoning thereafter. I'm sure it will still sell millions, but maybe to a new generation of gamers, as one bigger question I have is whether or not this will still play like MGS or be more like Call of Solid, seeing as we know nothing of gameplay.

Good bye MGS... I'll miss you... Kinda.

"KojiKnight" Sure. Ok. Cya at opening night.

A+

I'm slightly disappointed but I can see why they did this. They wanted to go for an all out actor who can mocap his way through the game instead of just a voice.

Did I read someone here saying people who don't mind Hayter being gone aren't actual Metal Gear fans?

Welp

It's hard to imagine them as fans. Hayter is the most iconic voice of the franchise. If they're fine with removing him from the franchise, I don't see how they could possibly call themselves fans. It would be like saying you're a fan of Pizza but they should remove the sauce, cheese and toppings. At that point it's not Pizza anymore.

Feels like he is burning bridges to be honest, like the 'new coke' comment. I'm sure it may be intended as a joke but he still seems bitter.

If he does end up voicing Solid Snake or something, it won't be like a 'lol I got you' it'll just make him seem like a douche.

He isn't the one who burned the bridges. He's just pissing on the ashes.

Why are people OK with a famous character's voice being changed? This isn't at all like James Bond. The Bond series is largely based on Ian Fleming's books, and as a book adaption its understandable to want to bring in a different actor every few years in order to have a fresh take on the source material. Its not the same with video game or cartoon characters. What if Charles Martinet were replaced with Danny Devito? How would people react if Bugs Bunny were suddenly given a new voice? This turnaround from being pissed at Kojima to hailing his decision to replace Hayter as genius is sickening.

The responsibilities of a voice actor are changing. This isn't MGS1 where you had animated Codec sequences or bobblehead polygon models, MGSV, as discussed in the video, is incorporating facial capture and more advanced motion capture. As much as I like David Hayter and have enjoyed his audio performances, these projects are moving beyond his range as an actor.

I didn't even notice Kiefer in the trailer the first time around, though it was super obvious when people mentioned it. It sounded pretty natural to me.

He isn't the one who burned the bridges. He's just pissing on the ashes.

He most certainly would be the one burning them.. they could certainly use him as Solid Snake or something even if it's not in this game, but maybe another that links MGSV to MG1.

They got the wrong Sutherland.

I've never looked into it, but I'd suspect it's more a union issue. A lot of voice actors in the 80's/90's had multiple names they took when working on non-union projects (games and animation).

Hayter was like the only one that didn't.

There was a strike of some sort at the time, so the others used aliases.

You guys are being so fucking trolled by Hayter and Kojima right now it's hilarious.

I find the positions of both the "no Hayter, no buy" and "great choice, will now buy day 1" groups to be very odd. The fact that a voice can mean so much is puzzling to me, and this comes from someone that loved Hayter throughout the MGS series.

This is a sad line of thinking.

I'm hoping I misread

Played every single Metal Gear countless times as a kid and an adult. Not thinking Metal Gear is dead because Hayter is gone doesn't make me(or anyone else) less of a

Oh wow I don't even know how to react to this

I play games for the gameplay and overall experience.

guess I'm not a mgs fan then. That sure is a shock to me!

Considering the way he has been treated I wouldn't be surprised if Hayter refuses to play Solid Snake in any future MGS games even if he was asked.

Well it was a day one purchase, but now will wait for reviews. You don't take the most iconic voice and just drop him. May not even buy it now.

Hayter started to fatten the accept up much lately, every single word has the sound of a truck pressing on snake's throat.
Kiefer will bring this hone no doubt.

He is a putz. I can understand people's reverence for him is from 24, but seriously, watch Touch.

I never even understood 24. His performance on that show was so one-note, your avatar would be impressed. And things got sad when they had him act out drug withdrawl. The other big performance of his career was one of those so-bad-it's-good deals in Lost Boys. He chews the hell out every scene he's in. He's also apparently a violent alcoholic.

Just another case of Hollywood opening doors for the children of legitimate actors, only now he gets to ruin a franchise I actually cared a bit about.

I'll really miss Hayter, seriously, and I'm still hopeful he'll return as SS, but c'mon, I couldn't imagine a more sublime choice than Jack Bauer for Big Boss.

Also, some of you Hayter haters are truly insufferable, lol, let us mourn!

Im actually excited for an mgs game again. Hell yes.

Edit: Also i think its pretty obvious that Hayter will still play a Snake in this game.

It's a weirdly ad hominem stance. People who are fine with this do not need to be kids with lots of free time. It's ridiculous to say so.

Guys, don't worry.

David Hayter will burn off Kiefer Sutherland's face with a can of hairspray and a lighter in the game after this.

....if Kojima sticks to the canon trololol.
