Kiefer Sutherland is the new Snake

So why the hell do you have a shrine of all things KJ if you think that way?
Last MGS I loved was MGS2, btw.

He only jerks it to the MGS2 section

I like you.

I was hoping that one day Kojima could return to making good games. It's been 5 games and I don't see an ending to the cabbage. MGS2 was and will be the last great Metal Gear game released and Anubis will be his last great game.

Koodos to the troglodytes who have considered MGS3 and so on as good. I hope they keep running an (once) amazing series further into the ground.

How can most of the people against Sutherland VO not see the massive trolling Kojima and Hayter are laying down. Hayter will be in this game, I'd even risk a month ban on it.

I hope you're right. It'll make this abortion of a game slightly more tolerable.

Hayter also didnt sound like he was fucked up on pills and alcohol for the last game

Ironside was absolutely ridiculous in SC5

I liked him a lot in Conviction. Tired and worn out is exactly what Fisher's character should sound like in his early 50's still moving around like a spy conducting dangerous missions.

But hey, to each his own.

I am saving your post.

The fact you go into each game knowing it isn't going to be what you want, but still complaining it isn't what you want, is pretty nonsensical to say the least. Cursing the creator, yet buying enough merchandise where you have covered the cost of someone buying every Metal Gear game ever.

For someone that thinks Kojima is a hack, you have kept what you hated truckin onward.

I hope you know that we are not getting trolled by kojima.

He always wanted to be hollywood director so the fact that his new game can have a hollywood actor like sutherland. Is the kind of shit he loves.

David hayter is out and we now have jack bauer.

Sutherland is getting a nice check that is why he is there. He is not there to troll us, the gamers.

So they got a great voice and actor, now they just need a good writer.

I'm in #teamkiefer
I'm sorry for David and the way this was handled, it sucks for him and i like the guy, but I don't mind the change at all.

Also, called it since the first trailer

How can we explain the cryptic tweets that basically helped promote the konami show, though? it doesnt seem like normal behavior from someone who got turfed. If I were him I wouldn't want to do anything to help promote konami.

There's also the backdrop that shows Kiefer Sutherland as starring in the movie as Snake, which is pretty weird considering they made no mention of that during the show.

The cryptic tweets from Hayter ("Hope I dont lose my voice") could also be interpreted as him literally losing Snakes voice to Kiefer. Who knows.

Hayter did pretty much admit to trolling too so he could just be having fun.

I like you.

Indeed, I'm a pretty likeable person

C'mon, be honest, the series could keep sucking for another 5 games and you'd still be all over Konami eStore's Premium Editions :P you have an MGS fetish and there's nothing you can do about it :P

Well the E3 trailer for MGS3 was amazing :P now even the trailer sucked ass. I'll still buy it and hope for the best, but I used to feel a badass playing Snake (and by MGS2 I was already an adult), now it seems so fucking stupid with all the story bullshit and gameplay has suffered as well. I didn't even play PW yet (I own it tho).

anyone has a live stream for Spike TV that works? Please share. Interview with Kojima to be broadcasted at the end of the show.

Well, since we're being extremely honest as of late...

I like MGS 3, but I don't think it's anywhere as near as good as 2. Like not even close. MGS 2 is my favorite game of all time, but there are reasons for that. It has stood the testament of time. Games come and go, wash away with the trends, fads, and zeitgeist, but MGS2 has stood true over the years as something truly special to behold.

The characters, the themes...even on their most blatant, obvious level, they're just fascinating. The true genius of the game though is when you dig deeper. You dig deeper into the themes of the game. When Kojima used the word 'meme', it wasn't just some catchy buzz-word to interest people, it actually has meaning and thought behind it. When Raiden was switched in for Snake, so abruptly and quickly, it wasn't just to surprise the player (although that was most certainly part of it). Not to mention when he switches the main character is important as well.

Not to mention the fundamental gameplay. It felt revolutionary. Everything was so precise and thought out. Each area in the big shell functioned as a little puzzle within the mechanics, just like any great stealth game provides. The weapons and movement felt fantastic, and the higher level of detail in the graphics and sound allowed for many different types of interesting gameplay techniques and subtle nuances. Every character had just enough realism to their design to feel, but also never felt like it was in the uncanny valley.

Not to mention the ending, oh boy that ending. Not necessarily the "final battle" or anything, but just how all the ideas and themes come together, and they come together in a way that just completely fits the whole game. The narrator of all of this is important to note as well, because his speech in the final minutes of the game basically reflect his relationship to Raiden, and in turn you as a player.

The greatest achievement of this game though is time. This game has stood the test of time. While many games, especially 3D games, have aged poorly, MGS 2 still feels solid even today. While the camera system was berated, instead of a slow, mid 2000's 3D camera, MGS 2 favors a snappy camera that revolves around your position and the room your in. So instead of a dated, slow 3D camera that is somewhat free to move around, you have a camera that feels like it's built for every single room, and keeps the quick FPS camera in mind as well. The graphics still look amazing. Like the faces, the graphics overall hit a brilliant medium between realistic and artistic; the effects like the rain, water, smoke, and chaff grenades still look really nice. The sound is still impeccable as well. The voice work and sound effects are still great, and the music is still something that is a must-listen. As for the story; I've always stood by MGS 2's story. It's been a long 10+ years to say the least on this. I've always argued that almost everything could be explained, and internet wikias have made that case for me at this point. There's definitely a lot of references to other games, but as someone played MGS 2 first (yeah, that was my first MGS), I managed to assume and piece together info slowly over time, and I always came back to the conclusion that there were answers. The best thing is that the subtext, themes, and ideas of the deeper meaning of the games have unfolded slowly but surely over the years. I could go way in-depth about dozens of different ideas, theories, themes, and meanings, but it's all out there, and it's a great game to replay and think about.

And you know, that's really it. I don't like replaying games. It's not my cup of tea. Hell, I barely re-watch old movies besides a very select few. With that said, since I bought it back a little after it launched, I've played MGS 2 way too many times to count. There were many reasons for this, but in the end it just happened that way. I played through MGS 3 and MGS 4 once. I've played through other games I like a lot once or twice at the most. There's just so much to MGS 2...the rich story, the rich gameplay, the atmosphere, the music, the graphical feats, the characters, the mood....it just all adds up to being a very special game to me.

Sorry if that's way off topic. I just saw Liquidus share his thoughts, and I thought I'd share mine, which are similar. I think people fail to realize just how different and daring MGS 2 is. They pick out a quick sound-bite or clip that makes the game look goofy, and have it at that. When in reality there's a lot more beneath the surface, and it doesn't even take much to find it.

-Kojima wanted a darker tone; Revenge is a major theme (as shagg_187 pointed out already)

-more subtle, nuanced performance; possibly less dialogue (from at least Snake) hinted at then in past games

-wanted complete virtual acting, but they're just using facial capture+voice for MGS V

-Sutherland will play Snake in both Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes

-Kojima danced around the idea of next-gen console versions; told us to wait for E3

Cross-gen or outright next gen?

We all know that the 360/PS3 versions of these cross gen games will always be gimped, other than the userbase I don't see the point.

Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes aren't the same game?

I know this discussion has moved sort of beyond the initial news, but I'm cool with Kiefer as Big Boss.

Hayter will always be iconic and Solid Snake to me, but I always thought they made a mistake having him voice Big Boss.

yea I guess that is why they didn't show the trailer yesterday.

The only question is, which conference Kojima will show it. Sony or Microsoft?

MS seems to be on a spending spree I wouldnt put it past them paying Konami to debut a multiplatform game at their conference. Outside of their own of course.

At this point, I expect Kojima to have the trailer at the Microsoft conference and reveal it's a PS4 (next-gen) exclusive at the end.

Oh wait a second, now MGS3 isn't that great of a game?

Not sure if you're referring to me. MGS 3 is a great game, but to me it's nowhere near as great as Sons of Liberty.

The reason was the need for a more broad acting range to convey emotions through face mocap.
Because David would have said "Otacon, are you ok?" while lo and behold KS will do with just "Otacon...?" and his talents will lay upon us such powerful subtext as "...are you ok?!"

Hahahaha

The general consensus seems to be that MGS3 is a good game but I didn't think it was that great. Lame plot with too many twists and camo and healing mechanics that added nothing to the gameplay.

I have very mixed feelings about this. Can't rag on Sutherland and he does have a nice voice. Problem is.... he has a nice voice. It just doesn't jell with how I've come to know Snake.
