Killer Instinct Pricing Revealed

What was the last time a fighting game launched with 8 (6) characters? The original Street Fighter 2?

Not to rub it in by saying I called it at E3 but... I called it

$20 for 8characters seems kind of okay but a little much considering skullgirls had 8 up front for $15. But if you are a person who is only going to learn maybe 2 characters the game night only cost you 5 buck which is potentially interesting as an idea for fighting games going forward but could also end up super sleazy.

In what world is :

$39.99 = £34.99 = €39.99 ?

In the real world:

$39.99 = £25.52 = €29.99
£34.99 = $54.76 = €41.04
€39.99 = £34.09 = $53.33

What I gather from this, is that the Australian version will be 100 AUD.

Umm that's how pricing always goes here in Europe. Yes, we get fucked but that's how it is.

So much value. What happened to it's not F2P, that's just a demo?

Ultimate pack is way too expensive over that character pack.

There are so many reasons why I think this game is going to get no support from the FGC and die..

I could see MS moneyhatting the game into Evo or something like certain other companies though and that could give it good exposure if they handle it right.

So are people just choosing to selectively ignore parts of the OP or what?

It seems that way.

The $20 is for the FIRST 8 characters. You do not have to buy the $40 if you don't want cosmetic stuff or the arcade game.

Obviously, there are going to be more than 8 characters later down the line as it says "first 8 characters". Maybe they want to release slowly to balance it slowly.

It's weird that $40 gets you the Xbox One game with 6 characters and the original arcade game which comes with 11 characters.

Also this basically kills any unlockable fighters. I don't know if unlockable fighters are still a thing, but back in the days of SC1 half the fun was just seeing what crazy fighter you'd unlock next.

Still at least they're not pulling a Ridge Racer and charging full price for it.

40€ for 6+2 characters? really?

edit: oh I see, 40€ is for all customs and such. 20€ s decent, but nothing that makes it better value than other fighting games out there. Unless a fan of the series of course

DOA5 has unlockable fighters IIRC.

Euros don't have to pay for college or health insurance.

Well I guess more characters depends on how well the game, and really this sales does.

World Warrior had 8 at launch and the four bosses (playable with a game genie in the home release.)

Getting only half that roster in a FG made over twenty years after that release is ridiculous

Always the same apologists LOL

This is a rip off. No other way around it.

I'd agree if it were a full priced game, but it's $20 for 8 characters and the complete game. $35 if you assume they expand to the Killer Instinct 1 & 2's roster of 11. How is that a rip off?

This is hilarious.

There was a /v/ thread on 4chan where I responded to a poster who felt strange KI3 had such a slow release of new character information, wondering what the heck is wrong.

I joked that just like Forza 5, KI3 will probably only have a few characters@launch, and the rest will come via DLC. I added that maybe the 'F2P Jago' mode was the real launch title, not the real KI3.

Then I pretty much got shitted by someone claiming that I was spreading misinformation, that I was lying, and damaging the brand, and all that jazz, and that it was confirmed long ago that KI3 will release entirely at launch, and the F2P is only a one-character demo, blahblahlblah.

... Well, the launch is real, but I feel somewhat validated.

Seriously, you guys have an issue paying $20 for this? I'll pay it in a heartbeat. Was prepared to drop 60 for it though for like 15 characters.

8 characters is low but the pricing is perfect. An extra $20 for the arcade game AND all costumes is cheap too. Go check out every other fighting game's costume packs in addition to their $10-$15 ports of previous versions.

Stop looking for things to complain about. The pricing here is GREAT news and extremely fair. It's the price of an xbla game.

So, what about arenas (fighting areas)? How many does the game come with? Will more be added? And how much will those cost?

Seems like they're going with one stage per character. Each stage being designed specifically to represent the character.

Might be making too much of an assumption but I'd be willing to bet the 2 DLC characters will have their own stages as well. Plus whatever DLC characters they add in the future.

Not trying to be a defender here, but skullgirls had a lower budget and clearly looks considerably worse technically than what this game is doing. Also next gen and all that

I feel bad for Double Helix they are doing what they can and it looks great, but they had such a short dev cycle MS fucked this up big time.

yeah, that'd be a better deal for sure. But like you said - it's all an assumption at this point.

I love the contrast responses.

$5 per character fuck that

vs

Ultra edition: been itching to play some KI

Really people? Now we complain about $20 games? What the hell is wrong with $2.50 a character if you pre-order?

Also, I've said it in every new fighting game announcement thread: it's so sad how quickly we all forget the lessons the indigogo for Skullgirls taught us.

so, $5 a character...man even capcom doesn't have the balls for that, do they?
*edit ah right right, $20 without the bells & whistles...still not awesome though

yup, it's about time we retire this one then

Maybe they want to release slowly to balance it slowly.

...i really don't see it as this, yeah

Another rushed job to pad their launch line-up.

The cynical might suggest it isn't rushed, but another title shipped incomplete so people connect to download the rest.

More realistically, I think abandoning "always online" was always going to leave launch titles in a bit of bad spot. Previously it wouldn't have mattered because everybody was connecting anyway. Now it just looks kinda bad for an offline title.

I still think what they should of done is divided up the roster and given each person who downloads the F2P version a different character. That would of at least made the online matches interesting. Instead be prepared to play a bunch of matches vs Jaggo.

I dunno dude skullgirls has some of the best 2D animation period but I agree that on the surface KI probably looks more impressive to most people. Skullgirls is also a super mechanically impressive fighter but again it and KI are going for 2 different types of fighting games.
