Killer Instinct Pricing Revealed

$20 for 8characters seems kind of okay but a little much considering skullgirls had 8 up front for $15. But if you are a person who is only going to learn maybe 2 characters the game night only cost you 5 buck which is potentially interesting as an idea for fighting games going forward but could also end up super sleazy.

Skullgirls was made by like 8 people who were basically working for no money. Its ridiculous for a non-indie fighting game to launch(especially one being put out by Microsoft themselves) with only six characters which is less then SF2.

I still think what they should of done is divided up the roster and given each person who downloads the F2P version a different character. That would of at least made the online matches interesting. Instead be prepared to play a bunch of matches vs Jaggo.

Jago is apparently the most beginner-friendly. It would suck for a new player to get stuck with Glacius who is said to have a steeper learning curve.

What was the last time a fighting game launched with 8 (6) characters? The original Street Fighter 2?

Not to rub it in by saying I called it at E3 but... I called it

Skull girls had 8 characters for $15 apparently, I'm not sure though I'm just getting this info from actually reading the thread.

so, $5 a character...man even capcom doesn't have the balls for that, do they?

yup, it's about time we retire this one then

Anyone bashing the game for its "$5/character" needs to read the original post. It's $20 for the game and 8 characters, PERIOD. If you want to pay more being an idiot and buying individually then go ahead but don't hold it against them.

I wonder how many characters they plan on eventually releasing. This game could get pretty expensive if its starting at 6 (8)

Also online is going to broken right? Almost every fight would probably be the free character.

It seems that way.

The $20 is for the FIRST 8 characters. You do not have to buy the $40 if you don't want cosmetic stuff or the arcade game.

Obviously, there are going to be more than 8 characters later down the line as it says "first 8 characters". Maybe they want to release slowly to balance it slowly.

LOL.

Please. They probably rushed it to get it out for launch, this way they can charge for any future characters instead of including it in the original roster.

Didn't people buy Skullgirls for the same price with only a few characters at the same sort of price? No one complained then. £17 for 8 characters doesn't seem all that bad. I still think the game looks godawful but the pricing isn't the issue here.

I wouldn't say that anyone who buys individually is an idiot. New players get to try out the game for 5 or 10 bucks when they might otherwise look at the $20 price tag and decide against it.

Seriously, you guys have an issue paying $20 for this? I'll pay it in a heartbeat. Was prepared to drop 60 for it though for like 15 characters.

8 characters is low but the pricing is perfect. An extra $20 for the arcade game AND all costumes is cheap too. Go check out every other fighting game's costume packs in addition to their $10-$15 ports of previous versions.

Stop looking for things to complain about. The pricing here is GREAT news and extremely fair. It's the price of an xbla game.

I had to quote this. This is definitely how I feel regarding this game. KI arcade at home while I wait for the other characters. Perfect!!

The pricing is reasonable, but after an entire generation of playing fighters feature 30+ characters, 6 at launch with two more later is a little tough to get excited about.

at that price

simply not worth it at those prices and just 6 characters? i will stick to street fighter

also this reminds me of the awful GOWJ release with Just 4 mp maps at launch

I like the idea of game that can be expanded without a new iteration every year like Street Fighter had been doing since SF4. But these prices seem a little ridiculous. Let's say Wave 2 has 8 more fighters, I surely hope I don't have to pay another 40$ for that.

$20

Well you would have saved yourself $20 is you actually read the OP.

I wonder if the original is net enabled in any way / is essentially an XBLA title.

Shame they'll probably edit all the Nintendo references out.

You mean another $20, right?

Good news, it'll probably be another $20 like it says in the OP. :D

Actually, that depends if they do a discounted bundle again. It's possible it'll be $5 per additional character and that's that.

Crazy. So how do you know which character you like best and suits your fighting style if you don't have access to them?

Skullgirls is an indie production doe by a small studio, Killer Instinct is a big name franchise financed by a very large and rich publisher.

How will you only see Jago when you won't have bought the game?

did you quote my post by accident?

yeah man, already edited my post, COMMA
ps i don't think it's idiotic necessarily if you really want that arcade port of KI or whatever, but yeah not a good deal by me

Was it known that the game will feature only six characters at first? I guess 20 bucks is okay for the barebones/all characters version (double for added bonus stuff is really steep though), but for a game that long on the wishlist of a lot of people, I'd have expected at least all of the original characters...

Crazy. So how do you know which character you like best and suits your fighting style if you don't have access to them?

It would be neat if a different character was made free every week like LoL. Would increase matchup diversity and let players try before they buy.

True there are situations where that's a good idea if you only intend to buy 1-2 characters and is exactly the reason why MS offers it. However, you really should know better than going that route and then deciding to get more characters.

So are people just choosing to selectively ignore parts of the OP or what?

That's what I'm getting from this. SO MANY who just want to find some way to complain.

"This music is SO GOOD! Why don't other fighters make something this in depth for their games?"

"I hate the new costumes! I WISH THEY HAD CLASSIC COSTUMES!!!"

"Original KI had everyone play the exact same! I hope when the characters come back in this, they're well made!"

The game may not have unlockable fighters, but they've talked multiple times about the classic music for returning characters being unlockable within the game. The PAXAUS2013 Panel talks about each character have a 42 mission trial + some form of a story to play through.

Yet as soon as lower character numbers get revealed, and money comes into view, that's all anyone starts to complain about.

And to top all that off, we have a version of KI 1 coming our way. We don't know how in-depth this port is (just an emulation? With Online Play? Upscaled or Re-rendered to modern native resolutions?), and everyone just ignores that, and finds something to act offended over.

Sounds like time to take a collective deep breath, let the info actually get fleshed out, and notice that a new 3D fighter with 8 playable characters (for the price) and some of the most in depth stage/sound production ever, can be yours, on a new system, for simply $20 bucks. Heck, if you only wanna main 1 or 2 characters, it's $5 or $10. If you want to main Jago, it'd frickin' FREE!

None of this is bad at all.

Its possible but seeing as how the most characters a Killer Insinct game has had is 11 and the fact that we've had zero original characters announced I wouldn't expect waves like that.

Also, if you're going to add new characters like that it would probably justbe cheaper as a consumer to want a new iteration.

LOL.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that is the case. I most likely won't buy it at launch but I hope they give a bigger discount for the entire game when they finish releasing all their characters.

Comparing the lineage of KI to that of Mortal Kombat or Street fighter is asking too much. KI had 2 games with a character roster of 15. How many iterations of Street Fighter and MK have there been since KI dropped out of sight?

Well I would only be interested in the 20 dollar version, who the hell needs the original arcade release and costumes for that pricey 40 dollar one. Honestly I do not care about it being 8 fighters if it is well balanced and plays amazing. However it is pretty certain that they will nickel and dime everyone for every future rooster ugh.
