Killzone 3 "open beta" February 3rd to 15

Hey what's up with this? I just finished all 3 waves and didn't get anything except some stupid clothes or something.
Is there a points minimum you have to reach or something?
You need to complete all the challenges as well I believe.

I just tried Move control in Botzone in recruit difficulty. I think I'm starting to see it. I still suck beyond belief, but there are those rare moment where I manage to kill 2 or 3 bots in quick succession thanks to Move. I don't think it'll work against real people though.

Incredibly odd feeling playing with move+nav. I'm not sure I could ever get used to having to pull the cursor to the side of the screen to turn. I wish it worked more like a mouse and kept the reticule in the center and turned the whole character whenever you moved the pointer.

I guess the sensitively would have to be too jacked to make that work and the nature of the beast would mean you would constantly need to "recenter" it. I guess there are situations where freely moving your aim around the screen works (clusters of baddies), but to me it's just too odd and I felt like it was a handicap more than anything else.

I wonder if an option to change it so that it does move your whole viewpoint when you move the cursor, with a button on the move that "disables" the tracking to simulate "picking up the mouse" so you can hold the button down and sweep back so you can continue to turn even when you run out of room.

Works better than I expected in any case, I suppose.

reducing the deadzone to 0 and turn up camera turn speed helps for me, although I'm still finding the sweet spot for me.

I'm using:

0
20
40
100

Try those. However, the calibration process is very important for the feeling as weel, makes a huge difference. Try to aim towards the middle of the screen and not towards the camera and also try to "overaim" the targets in the corner a bit.

My calibrating:

10
40
50
50
No aim assist
Tap to crouch, hold to aim

Remember, when calibrating: when it asks you to point at camera and hold move button: point at the center of screen and not the camera.

there is a lot of feedback(good feedback too) on the beta forums on what should be changed. I wonder if GG is going to go through with any of these changes. This game is a lot of fun but not up to halo and KZ2, TF2 standards but if they listen to the feedback i sure it can be.

The game is finished, isn't it? This is more a demo than a beta.

smh, whats the point of them then

sigh
who knows? They did change some of the loadouts from the alpha, due to suggestions.

It's an online game, so day 1 patches aren't unheard of.

Games change all the time.

My move came in yesterday. Time to get some Kz3 action going.

Browsing the beta forums I noticed that the dev Bilbo Fraggins said that we are definitely getting Custom Games in KZ3, whether Day 1 patch or soon after. Unranked of course, which is fine.

This is the first I heard of this, am I alone? Because this is awesome news.

Thank god. Definitely awesome news. I still miss the old days when I was a PC gamer and had a shitload more custom server options, but this will have to do for now.

Custom games are back? Yay.

I still think they should have server lists for ranked games, but make them non-customisable.

I just like to know what I'm letting myself in for before I get in there.

Just had a few rounds of operations. Turned into a camp-fest.

Custom games apart of clan games games or like anyone can make one? The former was confirmed, but the latter is welcome news.

Ah, awesome. I didn't know how much of My Killzone they had implemented yet. Cheers.

That is good news! Gamebattles here we come!

I got to play the BETA for awhile on Fri. Had a great deal of fun with it, game is tough to play right now with so many casual gamers and CoD freaks, especially in Warzone where you need teamwork to win. Some gamers just can't figure out how to play team based games, regardless and they wonder why you lose....

I could have just listened to the opening m,usic for awhile, great stuff there, well orchastrated. I can't wait the 3 weeks to pick this game up! Will rock

Also, the eye gauge is AWESOME! love it!

Y ME CAN NO PLAY KILL ZONE TRIO??

Seriously, I have been trying to connect for 3 days straigth and just can't get in. Always different network error.

I could play GW and Operations earlier, but not Warzone. Nuts.

I played a good amount over the weekend. I'm really starting to enjoy it.

The death moans are still absolutely horrible.

I played about 60 or so hours of KZ2 MP, and while I agree that KZ3 is different I don't really think that is a bad thing, it's not necessarily a good thing either though, just a thing I suppose.

Likes:
The fact that I don't spawn facing walls like KZ2
Controls.
Graphics as always top notch.

Dislikes
DEATH GROANS
Melee from afar.
Just looking over all of the unlocks it seems that the classes could get pretty off balance.
Framerate sometimes gets a little dicey. Hoping this can be fixed. Beta/Demo and all that.

Seems the good and the bad kinda wash out for me. That's why I said the change isn't good or bad really.

I haven't really been following this much but how many maps does this ship with? And are there any larger style maps that we know of?

Have not been following this thread closely, but my main impression is that if I get shot once, I'm dead. This seems less forgiving than KZ2 (which I really enjoyed) so I suppose that is my main gripe.

I'm trying to find the quote now but I'm on my phone so it's a bit slow.

It's pretty early in one of the official threads in the beta forum. I'll keep looking.

EDIT: Found It. It's in the Maps Feedback thread.

What I can immediately confirm is that we're going to release a patch to give you the option to allow you to create unranked custom games, allowing you to play the maps you own with friends, or to take your clan and challenge them against others.

As for anything else, I can't say either way, except you're definitely going to get fixes and updates to issues, obviously.

Customs games, sure, if you can find that thread i'd like to ask a few questions.

If they do it right and let random people join any custom game, that'd be brilliant. If it's invite only bullshit then it's near useless apart from gaf games ;p

I still seem to be able to run away from people unless I get stuck in the corner.

One of the Devs on the official beta forums have confirmed that the Medic Gun heal range is going to be increased a lot in a patch.

They said around 20 meters .. which is about 20 meters more than we have currently. Lol.

Also, they said that the Triage healing coming off the Medic's body is the same range as the Medic Gun right now (nothing), so possibly this means that the healing will be in 20m radius for Medic's as well.
Wow, now that's what I'm talking about. That's really nice to hear.

Well, that's going to make a lot of people happy, that's for sure. It seems that this patch (or patches) is going to make this game infinitely better.

Hey guys!

So last night was my first time playing a Killzone game. 3 hours later, I was hyped. Like the feel of the game, how you can hs three guys in a row, the game modes, and the map is pretty alright. Will definitively check it out as soon as it release. Hopefully there's a list of GAFfers I can add?

Anyhow, I woke up today and can't seem to login to the online servers. I read some people has issues connecting. Are the servers up and should I fiddle with my router? Or are they down?

Thanks.

Sony should have released the Sharp Shooter along with the release of the beta...

the hand positioning and the way i sit will be so different i dont want to get used to using the move controller right now..

but it does work well..

some more impressions after playing last night:

Love the MOVE controls. Never thought MOVE would play this good for an FPS. Great job on the almost perfect implementation.

Hate the death groans - please tone them down

Does any one hate the UI as much as I do??? this is worse than KZ2 which was bad enough. GG seriously needs a good UI designer. Red fucking mess with same annoying flicker sprinkled all over. I hope this UI is just a place holder and not in the final code.

Where is squad invite menu once your are in a game? I don't see it. The UI before the game start was much better in KZ2.

Will there be more playlists for match making? Like pistol only etc? Hope we get the server list back for custom games

Please put spawn on leader back!!!! wtf is this shit.

Other than minor frustrating elements I am enjoying the MP a lot. Hoping for a good day 1 patch.

Would be an incredible patch if it allowed you to connect to servers that weren't online yet.

Some kind of magic.
But how did they release a patch if there servers are offline?

On KZ forums

Hi Beta Testers!

Servers will be down for maintenance at 5:50 GMT. We should be back up in 30 minutes. Thanks for your patience during this brief downtime.

The Multiplayer Team

Joined a bunch of pub games yesterday and ended up spawn camping or spawn camped. The first day or two were fun. Now everyone is just abusing the distance of tactical spawn points on the map. I'm gonna wait and see how Guerilla Games addresses the problems of multiplayer. I'm no longer having much fun.

Uhm, login servers are completely different to file hosting servers.

That being said, I'm pretty sure the servers are back up now but I can't connect. I think the patch was probably just to fix the flickering menus but as I can't log in, I don't know.

i am a huge KZ2 fan. i capped out my rank and achieved my 1% badge. i can't tell you how many hours i spent playing that game. so when i first started reading impressions from the initial beta and then from the open beta on GAF i was a bit concerned. i could deal with the controls. i was slightly disheartened to learn that spawn grenades were gone (tact was my normal role and i was great at placement taking care to spawn people protected and facing the battles). the new system sounded like a mess. weapon damage sounded like a mess. "CODified" had been thrown around a ton (i don't care too much for CoD outside of CoD2). and there were general concerns from many core fans that sounded like i would have taken issue with these same complaints...

i have played the game enough to spec out tactician and gain a few extras for some other classes as well and so far i think that GG have done an outstanding job!

i am loving everything about the new game (well almost everything- sprint time could be increased or sprint recovery time...)

move controls are superb (this is my first motion fps). i am adapting quickly and becoming quite deadly.

the thing that i love most about this game is that it isn't just a run and gun. teams that have members that complete their roles will dominate. i like the tactical aspect of the game and the sense of team work.

to each their own i guess. but i think GG has done an excellent job of continuing their legacy.

I played the beta for a good couple hours. I can see the slower more calculating aspect of killzone 2 is gone. But I seem to like the changes in killzone 3. There is not as much spawn gernade spamming and just crazy ass clusterf*ks like in the old game.

Totally agree with you! Absolutely loving everything about this except for three or four very fixable issues.

Mine if I add you on PSN? At the moment the only KZ3 player I have on my list is Cagen and we haven't played yet.

Can someone please explain to me the ribbon system?

You get ribbons for meeting certain criteria in games.

Example in KZ2, one of teh ribbons you got would be for 10 pistol kill sin a match, if you got 10 of those, you unlocked the Magnum, which kicked a$$! They are using the same sort of thing for KZ3 as well.

Hello everyone, I'd like to ask my old buddies from EU Gaf for a clan invite as I will be trying to play the game at least while the beta is on.

Here's to some more of those fun days we had playing KZ2.

Also, I have to apologize to Viper, I didn't see that squad invite you sent me the other day, I was too busy shooting people :P
