Killzone: Shadow Fall is 39.7 GB, Used to be 290GB

inFamous SS looks infinitly better than this game but I'm sure it will be smaller

Playable after 7.5 GB downloaded? Wow, pretty impressive.

That's over 20% of the game.

I was hoping it would be playable sooner :( They made it seem like you can play within seconds after starting the PlayGo feature, but even my 75Mbps speed will take ~15 minutes, with the average user having to wait over an hour.

Maybe a little off topic but I have been reading about some "bandwidth caps". For what I could gather on this topic, is something related to some restrictions on how much GB's can you DL within a certain period of time. Is that right?

If that's so, what kind of backwards and retarded country could enforce such policies? I mean, wtf...

"Whether played from hard disc or Blu-ray, van der Leeuw is particularly proud of how fast and seamlessly the game loads; it's been a pet project for the tech director, who hates how slow modern games have become to operate. Guerrilla has completely eliminated in-game load times after an initial 30 seconds, and removed all logos and splash screens from the game's start-up routine. It may take a while to download Killzone Shadow Fall, but once you have it, the game comes to you very quickly indeed.

"To me, that's still something that fills my heart with joy when I see it. You insert the disc and go straight to menu," he says. "People here worked very hard... We had to ask legal and Dolby, the epilepsy warning stuff, the logos from Havok - we had to negotiate with them that we could put it in the credits and not the title screen... All the rules are built around the previous generation. I'm really happy that we're one of the first ones in, and I hope it's an example that people are going to follow.

"I get as annoyed by all these screens as you do. I'm 36, I don't have a lot of time to game, when I do I don't want be distracted by things that have nothing to do with playing the game... We came from a day and age with a cartridge, you stuck it in and like, 'bleep!', and you were playing the game. And slowly that has degenerated into experiences which are more beautiful and big and prestigious, but they feel... heavy. To me, it's about feeling. The feeling of something that, you say play and it starts to play - it feels qualitatively beautiful."

Van der Leeuw talks animatedly at the best of times, but it's when talking about the "immediacy" of loading Shadow Fall - not its stunning new lighting techniques or 1080p display resolution - that he is most passionate by far. If next-gen gaming means huge file sizes but never seeing an in-game loading screen again, then I'm with him - it's a price worth paying."

YES! YES!

A huge thank you to Van der Leeuw and the entire GG team! All you other game developers, the bar has now been set. Get rid of your silly logo's, warning, etc. and let gamers play the game.

To play Devil's Advocate, shouldn't stuff like epilepsy warnings be at the start of the game and not the end credits? By then the person with epilepsy will have been injured.

Stuff like logos in the end credits is a good idea though.

PS3 had it when you boot to the OS. So if the PS4 has that as well there is no need to have it in game as well. Odds are the very first launch will have the logos surely.

" But I think all things considered, this being launch and we've got like 2 minutes 44 from disc to the first level and no installs, I think it's already a massive improvement over previous generations."

Great news.

You're not impressed with being able to play with just 20% of it downloaded? shit I am. I know it sucks waiting but better than waiting for 100% eh?

Physical for me though. Dat box art.

I hope the PS4 download speeds are faster and not like current PSN.

I have never had issues with PSN maxing out my download bandwidth, although I know others have.

They have stated that huge investment is ongoing in relation to PSN, especially since multiplayer costs money now.

we gonna see multiple blu ray games soon.

I doubt it. Most multplatform games didn't take up nearly as much space as first or second party Sony games this gen. Evem impressive stuff like Just Cause 2 was only about 7.5GB if I recall correctly. BioShock 1 is the biggest that I know on (on PS3), weighing in at around 15GB.

I will have 300Mb/s download speeds here soon. 27MB/s or so. About 2GB per minute. Will take me a whopping 4 minutes or so to download this amount of data.

Wow, that is lightning fast! I have a 60MB download speed, and for example last night I downloaded the 2.4GB Alien Rage demo in about sixteen minutes. PSN download speeds have improved a lot for me ever since they launched the new store about six months ago.

About 39.7GB at a guess

Why do you say that - is the game a full mandatory install? I hope not, as I'd like to buy on disc to conserve internal memory where possible. This gen I've almost maxed out my PS3's 640GB, and that's only because I've done a lot of juggling to maximise space.

WOOOSH. NEXT GEN BABY !

Yep,within a month...we had this for a while in Canada but most offer unlimitted again now, some for free or for 10 bucks more a month...

It seems like this thread title is about the wrong thing. No startup screens?! That's awesome!

Honestly that's really one of the best bits of news I've heard. Let me play your fucking game, I already bought it.

I really hope more games follow suit.

It's the ISP's. Comcast (one of the biggest in the US and literally the only good ISP in my area) has a soft cap of 250GB or something like that but they stopped enforcing it last I heard unless you go WAY over.

Just the 7.5GB portion of the game would still take 2 days for me to download on our shit Aussie connections so I will be going physical but plenty of fantastic news to come out of that article.

18% I think. I thought I'd be downloading like half of it before I could play, so I'm ecstatic.

7.5GB is still a lot for me to have to wait for given my internet connection. As expected, I'll be staying physical for most of my games.

I was under the impression that most (if not all) PS4 games would be fully installed to the hard drive - I could be wrong though.

Fucking gamechanger. Every developer needs to follow suit.

People might find it weird, but this might have convinced me to get this game Day 1. I think this will feel truly "next-gen"!!!

Honestly think it might even be new thread worthy. So many people are not going to know this and EVERYONE is going to love it and want more devs to do the same.

It may be a minor thing in the grand scheme but anyone who grew up with pop in game, power on, press start should think this is awesome.

I've been in the habit all generation with starting the system, launching a game and walking away. It takes so long from the start of the console to the launch of the game that you can do other things in the mean time.

Adam Sessler was wondering if load times and menu screens would be eliminated next gen. He should be pleased.

This is gonna be awesome. I hated waiting a minute every time i started a game.
