Big deal.
Maybe it's a nice verse.

I don't really care if people want to be religious, but this is pretty unprofessional and the "offended" in quotes seems unnecessarily antagonistic
Remind the sender that the bombers prayed plenty enough.
I work in a scientific field.
Thats being a little... sensitive isn't it? They didn't demand you do it, they were just suggesting if you do pray tomorrow is a national day for it.
Putting the quotes around offensive was a bit much, but even then I can kinda understand it, as anyone who gets offended by someone else praying is rather silly. Still shouldn't have even had that sentence though.
I'm a Christian and I spent today studying with two of the best friends in my thermo class, a Jew and a Muslim lol.

Seriously, out of everything to be offended by this is pretty much peanuts and not really a big deal at all. I say that as an Atheist.
Now if they continually push it and start doing a lot of religious shit then it's different but otherwise getting worked up over such a small thing like that is kinda petty.
From your point of view. Not everyone shares that. What's the issue here? Prayer in times of crisis is always a nice gesture.
Yeah I was going to say, the "offended" comment is dumb but getting at all mad at the general sentiment that's something that belongs in that atheist douchebag thread.
I didn't know you had to be an atheist to work in such a field.
Big deal.

I guess I just don't care about these things.

To the people saying to the OP that he must have been offended: I think the idea is, he wouldn't have been offended if they just sent an email about praying. But when they pre-empt objections by putting "offended" in quotes, they're belittling anyone who gets offended, and THAT is what offended him.
It's odd too. I hear a lot of scientist actually have a religion, so I am not sure why people act so surprisedAtheists think it's inoffensive to act surprised when a scientific person happens to ascribe to a religion.
No.. it's offense at people belittling others.Don't you get it man. You have to be offended by anything religious anyone says ever because they are so very wrong and it's obvious.
Offense at assuming offense that they say they would never be offended with in the first place? This is getting to complicated now.
No but it probably helps.do you have to be religious to pray?
It's the quotes that make it offensive, not the simple fact that they are reminding people it's the national day of prayer.
The quotes basically say 'anyone who doesn't think national day of prayer is the best thing ever is stupid'.

That's not how I would take the quotes.
I take it as, "We know there are those who bitch about everything."

Tomorrow is the National Day of Reason.
Ask if you could use the prayer time to surf for porn or grab a drink. Both are way more productive than praying. If I got killed by some asshole I would love for everyone to have nice cold beer when they think of me.
And yet the author of the email is using quotes to indicate that he/she has determined that getting offended by the company prayer is unjustified. And let me just post this here now before someone else does:

So we can get it out of the way and say that being offended by other people getting offended is even more futile than the original offense. Just step back for a moment and realize that you really have no business determining what is and isn't appropriate for someone to get offended over.
