I don't get what's "worsened" over time. Tbh it actually feels like they've improved everything, visuals are clearer, more colourful, expressions feel better, the direction of the videos, the details and the way they narrate...
I disagree with the comparison with FFXV Kingslaive, specially because kingdom hearts doesn't strive for that realism, they kinda make cgi inspired on the way it's used on the movies like tangled or frozen.
If you find the Game Trailers Retrospective its a good way to get caught up on the series.

She also appears in a late-game cutscene, along with Namine and Roxas, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see her return.

I mean I outlined what's gotten worse overtime, like the expressions absolutely are not better as the models they use now are incredibly limited compared to the models used in the CGI of the first game. The visuals are clearer but the skin and hair make the models look like lifeless plastic dolls, (again, exacerbated by the more limited rigs). When did I compare to Kingsglaive?
KH2's was my favorite until now, but this one topped it for me.
KH 0.2 > KH 2 > KH 3D > KH bbs

1. KH2 - Fucking beautiful. Wonderfully paced with GOAT Sanctuary. It did the recap parts creatively but it didn't linger too much on just that. It actually showed you new stuff that you should expect in KH2. Seeing young Kairi turn into older Kairi told you that we ain't fucking around and this is a true sequel.
2. KH1 - So surreal. I love that version of Simple and Clean. Seeing this as a kid was always a mindfuck. Also I love Sora's quote in the beginning. "I've been having these weird thoughts lately. Like is any of this for real or not."
3. 0.2 - More vibrant and doesn't feel the need to recap all of BbS. It also used the reused footage in a better way than BbS's footage. Also a new song even though it's just a remix.
4. DDD - Lingers too much on recapping every single game that it doesn't make sense and doesn't really prepare you for the actual story in DDD.
5. Boring. Reuses a lot footage from the secret ending of KH2. Reuses the same KH1 song.

Yes, she has been sidelined for most of the games, but that's why your supposed to root for her finally getting trained and becoming apart of the war in Kh3, so she can live up to her potential as part of the plot.
She's always indirectly been apart of the events of the series, from RECOM, to 358, to KH2 and the like, through other characters and what they are doing, but we never get to see her actually do stuff.
She's one of the seven princesses of heart but also one of the seven lights who protect the princesses which puts her in a unique position that i hope to see explored

I love the CG style. I still wish that they'd pursued that route with their real time visuals this gen. I even made a thread about it way back when KH3 was still using luminous
They did actually, the models now look more like their CG counterparts then ever before while still looking cartoony. They actually intentionally went in that route.
But the fact is that with their development issues as well as general priority, it would not be prudent to focus their rendering budget on making the most detailed character models possible over filling out the rest of the game world.
I can't root for Kairi because I have no clue what her personality even is.
Her personality is basic teenage girl, or has been portrayed as such so far, let us hope we see more of her in the coming material.
My issue with Kairi is that i've always wanted her to be more prominent in the games, to give her some character motivation that she is not shown to have, but she was always sidelined in favor of the Sora and Riku bromance, which i think was generally milked waaay to much, the fandom got big off of it, but it left her to flounder.

Is it possible this is just a theme for pre-ordering retail and you download it from the playstation store? I'd love to be wrong here, just hoping that no one's got their wires crossed. (or is there a translation source?)

No the description says DL version of the game, so I am almost certain that the game is made available digitally in PSN store. The description says the game will be avialable for pre-order in PSN store around mid-November.
The first theme is the theme you get from pre-ordering it from amazon, while second one is from PSN store.

Hopefully 1.5+2.5 also has a downloadable version. (probably will if 2.8 does) It's nice to have the no digital Kingdom Hearts curse broken.
She's not interesting. I can tell you more about her copies than I can about her. And I can't buy her fighting like I can with Aqua and Xion. Her smashing Heartless with her own flowery keyblade was probably the cringiest moment in KH 2.
I also don't like her design as much as I do Xion's, Namine and Aqua's(GOAT).
It's been like 9 games and Xion has already been playable and Aqua has had two scenarios to herself already. Her role after KH 1 is to remind us that Sora isn't gay.
At this point I'm rooting for Aqua or Xion to replace her.

For whatever reason, I absolutely love Kairi's design, and I've pretty much been banking off of that since KH2. She has been so horribly mismanaged, while she was important to the first two games, she was absent/in a coma for their entirety. KH2 treated her really bizarrely, deciding to focus more on Sora's sudden obsession with Riku. The real cringiest scene was Sora awkwardly hugging her, then bawling at Riku's feet 30 seconds later. I really love that KHX anniversary art she was in, and I hope that's her new costume, but if they don't shape up her character, I'm going to have to board the Aqua train.

Then she's extremely bad at her job. There is roughly 100 times as much energy between Sora and Riku as there is between Sora and Kairi.

Also why did they make the side of aquas lips thin. She looks like a cat now.
She didn't even have any training, what else was she gonna do? I find it annoying how people try and trash her continuously, and right when we do get a chance to actually see her become more, they instead just want to continue trashing her instead of seeing the character become better.
Its like complaining is just better than being proactive.
Yeah its late, but its definitely nowhere near a Sakura type situation, where she had plenty of time and opportunity to make a difference and never did.

I agree, i'm very supportive of different CGI styles but the KH Nomura art style just doesn't work very well in 3D. The eyes specifically always look incredibly lifeless and the skin shaders and modeling make them look like dolls which at this fidelity coupled with the Nomura edginess looks terrible.
and holy fuck I'd hate to work with any one of these rigs because the lack of proper blendshapes means the range for expressions is piss poor by every standard

why are they torturing these animators man. "So wait, you made me a new rig for the new intro and CGI shots, and it's more limited than the last one? Wait, ALL of them are more limited than the previous versions? The hell am I supposed to do with this??" ಠ_ಠ
The Good Dinosaur had a similar issue to KH in terms of rendering with the less realistic models looking very out of place on these incredibly realistic backgrounds. The slight stylization of the luminous target render did a incredibly good job at alleviating most of the above issues. First off, they aren't afraid to give the ingame models actual blend shapes so that they can make a range of expressions, also helps that the background was also stylized, not just the characters.

Well it depends. Sakura is a terrible character that had some moments of usefulness even if some of it was shoe-horned in. Kairi's a non-character that Nomura doesn't know what to do with after KH 1. The only time she was ever useful was when she gave Sora back his body in KH1.
They really shouldn't have given her a keylade to begin with(I feel the same way about Lea). It feels really forced. Nomura trying to retcon in that Aqua accidentally did a keyblade ceremony with her made it worse.
At the very least they should've given it to her post KH2 around the same time that Lea got his. And you can say that it was because they needed more keyblade wielders to fights the 13 darknesses so they had to recruit Kairi.
Also kinda weird that all the Kairi clones in addition to Aqua barely have any connection to Kairi. They're all more connected to Sora. Xion is made up of Sora's memories, Aqua and Sora have more of a connection together(they're both the spanner in the works for the bad guys, they save the team, end up split from them at the end of their first game and go looking to fix things), and Namine is a straight up Sora+Kairi+Ventus baby but since Ventus is a Sora clone it basically amounts to Sora + Sora clone + Kairi baby and gets more play with Sora anyways.

I never played the portable games, but this trailer was amazing. So many feels. I can't wait to play all the games in the collection next year.
