Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Opening CG Cutscene

The Days movie

The 358 days cutscenes were never claimed to be a movie. As long as one has in mind that it was originally a game and there were gameplay segments that could not be replicated, its an easily digestible affair.

Most of the game's gameplay was filler to begin with and not all that interesting.

Yes, the characters in the CGs have always looked off, I never stated otherwise.

In that case, i just disagree completely.

I wish they would change the style of the CGs because it just doesn't work; the character come off as creepy dolls with hair made out of play-doh. This shot was especially bad:

It ruins the otherwise awesome videos :/

I think's an unfortunate trade-off with keeping the style in line with the cartoon/anime aesthetic.
Although I also wish Nomura would of made more effort to try and keep his own characters in line with Disney's design philosophies and not "ANIME RULES HERE"

To be perfectly honest that shot of Aqua's face actually does make me think of Disney design. Mentally convert that picture into how a Disney princess in 2D art would look and it translates surprisingly well. Disney princesses have always had big eyes to accentuate femininity and cuteness(they got bigger as time went on, compare Cinderella's eyes to Ariel's), so it's not just an anime feel IMO.

Hell for that matter I can mentally convert Terra's face into a Disney 2D older male character and that kind of works too.

Nomura's style is anime and manga based like pretty much most every other Japan based artist.

I don't see the merit in saying he should make the KH characters more cartoon like when the whole point of the series is a fusion of styles, SE's Japan's anime aesthetics and Disney's western cartoon aesthetics.

yea I really love the mix of Japanese anime and western Disney aesthetics in KH.

Wait people don't like the way this looks? Well shit i mean we're all different I suppose but damn I thought this was absolutely beautiful and a great evolution of the franchise

Ok, my bad then. The collection of cutscenes is still trash compared to the real thing.
The gameplay systems were actually great; being able to replay missions (on harder difficulties), mission goals, the way you upgraded your magic and abilities and having to use said abilities to access treasure chests... I remember upgrading my aerial combo in order to be able to just barely make a long jump and reach a chest and it felt amazing. Sure, I could have just waited until I unlocked glide or whatever but the game gave you flexibility.
The problem was that the mission design was often boring and repetitive. Still, it's definitely worth it to struggle through the lows because the highs are amazing.

Some people hate it when Mickey or Goofy show up, others want it to be all 'Disney'. Way to miss the point of the collaboration!

Like look at this!! The style blends so well it doesn't even look goofy(heh) to see Mickey fighting with an "anime" character it just blends so well

I think it looks great.
She has that older sister/mother look here.

I think while it's a bit of an acquired taste, it's carved its own visual identity. KH1 and KH2's CGI was like that, Birth By Sleep was like that.

Either you get used to it, or you don't, I guess. Like Amano or Toriyama faces.

By design philosophy, I mean not having original characters walk around Disney worlds with insane hair colours and clothing. The Fairy Godmothers scene in KH2 where they create clothing for Sora was hilariously awkward.

I liked Roxas and his three friends for that reason, because they fit in so much more. Felt like they were a part of some Disney TV show that never was.

And I do like Nomura's designs as a whole. But there's no ignoring that KH is really the start of where he began shrouding himself in the worst tropes of anime.

Aqua's alright but Terra and Ventus are terrible. Aqua's good relative to them. I'd take Sora, Riku and Kairi over these three any day. BBS is kinda asinine story wise in retrospect.

Weird how it took retrospect for you to get this. BBS's story makes very little sense, at all, a baby was literally born and had the sentience to magically communicate while speaking a language it doesn't understand. Somehow they hired a dude who's basically Tom goddamn Riddle to teach students. Why would you hire someone who looks like this as a teenager:
xR9XCeY.jpg

and then like this as an old man:
master_xehanort_by_uxianxiii-d5gmehh.jpg

He straight up looked evil as a child yet everyone is acting like he's a normal dude for WAY too long before the realization that *gasp* the yellow eyed pointy eared dude who killed Ventus turned out to be evil. This all excacerbated by terrible acting because the VA were bored as shit and given nothing to work with and some of the worst cinematography in gaming. -_- Fuck BBS.

I love the CG style. I still wish that they'd pursued that route with their real time visuals this gen. I even made a thread about it way back when KH3 was still using luminous :P

I admit that I'm definitely not paying attention to Kingdom Hearts plots (they're all about screwing around with their mechanics which is always great) When I say retrospect, I mean I actually payed some attention to the narrative in my most recent playthrough. And I think I lost a couple of brain cells to Terra's antics.

I'm crying, so good... Final scene...

Holy fuck thank you. I've seen BBS get praised so much and when I finally played it was awful to me. I literally had to stop playing because Terra is a moron and Master Xehanort's character screams 'I'M EVIL.' so much that it was hard to take him seriously.

Incredibly. You should buy both of the collections coming out for PS4 next year.
Very.

You should buy the colletions.
I actually bought the first one for PS3 when it came out and just never got around to playing it. Looks like it's gonna be kind of obsolete now. Still, it does seem kind of absurd that I need to play 48 spinoff titles in order to understand the third part of a trilogy.

It's not the third part of a trilogy.

Honestly they really shouldn't have called KH2 KH2 and instead given it a subtitle in order to avoid the confusion.

Nah, not unless you plan on getting the platinum trophy for each game.

I mean.. It is. They might not have been written like a trilogy and you could argue Squeenix bungled the titling, but that's how it's set up. When you have three titles of a franchise called 1, 2 and 3, that's a trilogy.

I wonder how 3 will do with mainstream audiences. 1 and 2 were (relatively) big hits in the mainstream and seem like they have a sizeable presence in mainstream gaming "culture", if that makes sense. There are tons of people out there that have only experienced those two games so I wonder if a bunch of people who buy 3 will have no idea what's going on. I honestly don't know if they expected a core audience to follow them through all the handheld titles or if it's just a consequence of Japan becoming a handheld focused market. I also wonder what the western vs. eastern sales numbers are like. What a weird series of games.

I don't think the KH games are very long unless you're playing on hard or trying to do everything. It probably takes about 20-30 each if you're just trying to get them done.

They seemed just fine with KH2 picking up right after the events of Chain of Memories and assuming you had played it. I imagine the general audience will be okay with KH3 too.

Its so beautiful! o.o

though i think it focuses a lot on the grabbing hands thing, more than the other KH intros its distracting.

Someone should make a thread ranking the KH intros!

That's true, but even that was already kind of confusing and that was one game. This is like, what, 3 or 4 games?

Just glanced over them but three of the openings uploaded have over 1million views combined.

About
500k for the JP vers
500k for the eng vers
And 200k for another english one.

Kingdom hearts DDD easy!

yeah if anything that looked like they could have used for KH3. if they focused on the plot of DDD a bit i wonder how it would look

I love Master Xehanort character design :S

He and Ansem look like, Disney- ish anime villains if that makes sense.

its Xenmas and young Xehanort that stick out in a bad way.

the plot in those games were always babble nonsense try to lighten up :)
the worst thing about it is how they butch many of the Disney movies retellings

As someone who only played 1 and 2, I have no idea what is going on. How fucked am I when 3 comes out?

I've played them all and I don't understand what's going on (yet I understand mgs lol) I just play it for the combat and the lighthearted story. I think a recap on YouTube can properly explain what's going on.

I hope they recast Aqua or at least try to get a better performance out of the VA. She sounded bored out of her mind in BBS. Same for Terra.

Excuse you. That shot is beautiful. As is every shot with Aqua in it.

Jokes (well, okay, they're not really jokes, I guess) aside, I disagree. I love how the character models look here and in 0.2 and 3. They look good with the rest of the world and fit with the Disney characters too. To me, they somehow balanced that anime look together with the cartoon visuals from Disney and made it its own look that works really well.

Re: Coded is fine (they even added some new stuff) but Days cuts out some important stuff. You'll still understand the story though.

Recoded is fine. 358 days cut certain things from the DS title, but its generally negligible for the story unless you want to know everything.

I watched 358 days in the 1.5 collection first, and the story was easy to understand. It was only after that i found out that some scenes had been cut, and while they are interesting, again, not super important to the experience and understanding the story.

The Days movie feels very disjointed because they only remade already existing cutscenes without adding new ones that would cover gameplay segments. So you get things like like a cutscene setting up a fight, fade to black, cutscene showing the result of the fight.
It's terrible and completely butchers the final stretch of the game which is the high point of the series.

They kind of fixed that for RE:Coded but the story is throwaway filler so you'll be wasting your time by watching it. However, it's a blast to play, so I recommend you to do so if you ever get the chance.

Aww, that's a shame. I'm way more interested in 358/2 Days than Re:Coded. I need more Roxas. :( Still, at least there's not too much lost.

Speaking of DDD. I can see how the BBS trio can all make a return, but I don't get how Roxas or Xion could possibly make a return? Doesn't Roxas in particular have to remain merged with Sora?
Are you underestimating Nomura's ability right now? He'll find some totally stupid and illogical way to do it and I'll eat it up because this story is awesome.
