Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Opening CG Cutscene

I don't want anyone other than Sora to be playable (unless it's for like an intro sequence, but even then...).

I want a super focused experience.

Heh, actually, I grew tired of playing Sora. I liked that we were able to play multiple characters in Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance (though going through the same areas was tedious). I, for one, would like to see multiple characters being playable in KH3, with each of them getting dedicated zones.
We now have Sora, Riku and Mickey as keyblade masters, Kairi and Axel being in formation (and who will be on the frontlines anyway), the BbS trio... So many characters. Maybe too much to be honest. A focus on Sora, Riku and Kairi would be perfect in my eyes (I initially wanted Aqua to have a predominent role in KH3, but it seems her arc will come to an end in the KH3 prologue ; though, if the BbS trio doesn't have a much warranted revenge showdown with Xehanort at some point, I will rage, they need to kick his butt).

That was so damn beautiful. Man, I really love Birth by Sleep. Just watching that gave me so much feels.

Best girl Aqua, goddammit.

Also, it kind of amused me how that spoiled most of Birth by Sleep, but I guess that was a given, considering that it's a direct sequel. Tsk, I really need to get 2.5 soon so I can replay II and Birth by Sleep.

See, I like having multiple playable characters, but the only time they really got it right was
Riku in Chain of Memories, it felt more like a cool bonus than repetitive grinding
BBS felt repetitive replaying most of the areas 3 times over, and once you started getting high-leveled with a character, you had to start over. DDD tried to fix that by playing 2 characters simultaneously, but that was unnatural and pulled you away from the action. The KH2 intro with Roxas went on too long and was too boring, although it had potential.

That being said, I ideally want to see Sora having most of the gameplay and levels, with a Riku side-story thing that is 50-60% the length of Sora's, and playable Kairi anywhere I can get her. I think Aqua's role will be done in 2.8.

Kairi is worst girl.

Noooooo Kairi best girl ;-;

Count me in, as well.

This is the correct answer.
Man I thought I was the only one that liked the SDG trio more than the others.
Too bad that Donald and Goofy kinda got shafted after Chain of Memories.
Well.....that gave me chills.

I know Kingdom Hearts' story is one giant convoluted mess....but I keep going back to it...the graphics, the music, the characters, it makes me really enjoy Kingdom Hearts.

Can't wait for this.
I feel the same.
I've given up on the story a long time ago but the gameplay, graphics, music and characters always seem to bring me back.

KH2 provides a pretty straightforward framework for lots of characters to be made playable, for what it's worth (combo/combo finisher properties are basically universalized between Sora, Sora's drive forms, Riki, Ari as, AND nearly all melee-oriented boss enemies). I think there'll absolutely be a multiplayer mode piggybacking off of that, but it might impact the campaign too.

Since it's come up a couple of times, I highly doubt that Aqua's role in the story ends in just the 2.8 prologue to KH3. Would be rather surprised if she doesn't have a role in KH3 whether or not she ends up playable in part of the game.

It'll be impossible for her not to have one. Fragmentary Passage is just a few hours. There's no way her story will just end when there's A LOT to cover with Venus and Terra.

She'll be there all the way to the end boss in 3.

Really? It sounds okay if I ignore the weird ass squealing and bubble popping noises. PLANITb remix is still GOAT.

Lol this was exactly my first thought when I first heard the song. But it grew on me and I can't stop listening to it now. It doesnt help that the video it accompanies is awesome.

I want playable Aqua now for KH3.

Passion vs. Hikari/Sanctuary vs. Simple and Clean is one thing, but does anyone actually prefer Sanctuary over Passion?

Utada sounds like she has a head cold in Sanctuary and it feels underproduced (missing background vocals). Also the lyrics seem lazy which is weird because I read back in the day that Utada wrote Sanctuary first and SE had to convince her to do a Japanese version. There must be some inaccuracy to that because Sanctuary felt completely phoned in.

On its own it's fine but it doesn't measure up to Passion, whereas Hikari and Simple and Clean are on equal footing for me.

Just hope we get a new song for KH3.

She writes the music first and the lyrics afterward. Given she is barely saying anything in Sanctuary she probaby just ignored it when writing lyrics for Passion.

Oh shit I think I listened to this remix way too much.... now I went back to original Hikari and it feels way too slow lol.

Haha

Yup, that's why I felt the need to say something after seeing it a few times, there's just no way she won't have plenty of story left for KH3.

I cried. This was absolutely beautiful.

Which "company" is responsible for the cgi on this openings? They've nailed every single one, and this one looks so colourful and full of little details...

Square has always done their own inhouse CGI for all their games, since FF7 started the trend. Furthermore, the name of their inhouse CGI team is Visual works as stated.

The FFXV Omen trailer is co-developed with digic right? It really feels different from rest of Visual Work's CG trailers.

On a side note, since I don't know where else to ask this, but do 358/2 Days and Re:Coded in the ReMix collections lose much story substance? I only played the PlayStation titles (and Chain of Memories), so I never got to play those. I'm sure I'll understand them just fine, as with the rest of the franchise, but I worry that they won't, err, flow too well? Since, you know, they're just custscenes.

Re: Coded is fine (they even added some new stuff) but Days cuts out some important stuff. You'll still understand the story though.

I wish they would change the style of the CGs because it just doesn't work; the character come off as creepy dolls with hair made out of play-doh. This shot was especially bad:

It ruins the otherwise awesome videos :/

Change how? Example? You mean FFXV-style hair?

Art style didn't bother me personally, the only thing that bother me in the opening is Ven's hair colour change.

I like the doll-ish Pixar look to KH CGi personally. I for one am super disappointed in-game versions of the characters don't look like how they look by Visual Works, since current-gen is plenty capable of delivering CGi quality KH renders... but it's up to the character modelers.

Yup, while the Omen trailer was nice... I do also wish it was done by Visual Works instead. There's just something to FF CGi that works better with VW craftsmanship, there were scenes in the Omen trailer that were a bit rough.

The CGI has always been the same style for KH, how can it 'not work' now?

I don't think that's exactly true for the game KH is. They only got close to their CGI renders with the high end PC tech demo on Luminous in the very first trailer(Sora on the beach)

Otherwise, they have to plan a whole game around those character models, and considering their development difficulties(having to switch their entire engine during development, unfamiliariaty with their new engine, many developers being new to HD game development ect), they've gotten very close to their CGI cutscene models compared to what they looked like in the previous iteration of Kingdom Hearts.

I don't think its reasonable to expect them to somehow ape CGI models that are in the high hundred thousand to million polygon counts in game while still focusing on the experience in this generation.

I'm sure PS5 will get substantially closer. Considering by that time, we'll have consoles that can run the Agni and Infiltrator tech demos easily. The GPU of the Pro already surpasses the GPU used for Agni in the first place.

Yes. Digic Pictures took a supporting role with the development of Kingsglaive as well as this specific trailer. That is actually why Kingsglaive looked so different from Visual works usual style as well, a lot of the designers were outsourced.

Recoded is fine. 358 days cut certain things from the DS title, but its generally negligible for the story unless you want to know everything.

I watched 358 days in the 1.5 collection first, and the story was easy to understand. It was only after that i found out that some scenes had been cut, and while they are interesting, again, not super important to the experience and understanding the story.

The Days movie feels very disjointed because they only remade already existing cutscenes without adding new ones that would cover gameplay segments. So you get things like like a cutscene setting up a fight, fade to black, cutscene showing the result of the fight.
It's terrible and completely butchers the final stretch of the game which is the high point of the series.

They kind of fixed that for RE:Coded but the story is throwaway filler so you'll be wasting your time by watching it. However, it's a blast to play, so I recommend you to do so if you ever get the chance.

I don't know what it should look like, I just know it doesn't look right. They are in the uncanny valley where they try to be realistic but fail and look creepy. Not even sure KH's cartoony designs could ever work with realism.

The characters in the CGs have always looked off, I never stated otherwise.
