I'm still Team Eminence, but his new skin is pretty hot. It's a remake of one of his older skins, and it's really nice. Arctic: Zephyr.

Gonna rep this skin pretty hard, too. Switched my htpc over to it and the amount of customization you can do is just fantastic.

I find his new skin ugly and very buggy for me. Eminence >

Thanks for that kodi amazon link though, the old way to add it to the recent list took a lot more work.

I liked Nox back a few years ago, but I can't go back after getting a taste of Eminence/Zephyr on the big screen. They are just too smooth.

No doubt! Here it is for anyone who missed it:

Oh yeah, if you're on a FireTV and have Kodi sideloaded, there is now a really easy way to get it on the recent apps page. Sideload Kodi like normal, then you get it from Amazon. Go into your FireTV settings > Account > Sync Amazon Content. Kodi should then show up as an installed program.

Whoa, that's unexpected and amazing. I never thought I'd see XBMC on an official app store.

Is there a reason why the Windows version doesn't have an automatic update system in place? Having to download an .exe from a website, every time an update comes out, is a little bit inconvenient on an HTPC without a dedicated mouse and keyboard. That process feels very 2005 to me, rather than 2015.

Or am I just being an idiot again and missed that functionality in the system settings?

It's not like it's impossible for Win32 programs to check for a newer version and download and install it, if necessary.

If the Amazon KODI app disappears from your Fire TV, and the Amazon KODI app page shows your Fire TV as incompatible, there is a fix. FYI, I ran into this problem after updating KODI.

1. Go into your apps on Amazon and delete KODI
2. Open Fire TV > Settings > My Account > Sync Amazon Content
3. Go back to http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TWM8IBA/?tag=neogaf0e-20 and "buy" it again
4. Repeat step 2

I'm using ps3 media sever right now. But is there any benefits to switching to Kodi?

I have a server or raspberry pi (latest one) thay could run the os.

I installed Kodi for the first time recently and I have a question. Are there any themes that dramatically change the layout of the UI or do they only make minor adjustments? The reason I ask is because I have a huge 1000+ movie collection and I would need something that shows a lot more than like 8 or so movies on the screen at one time. Is there something that I can download that will enable to me to have a complete thumbnail view of my collection where I can have more like 40-50 titles on the screen at one time? Scrolling through a 1000+ collection 8 at a time is not going to work for me.

Yes. Also there are multiple views within the skin that you can set.

i have a new wdtv live, can it be flashed to run this? anyone had any experience doing so? i'm wondering about performance benefits or detriments.

edit: oh so apparently wdtvs don't have the necessary hardware to run xmbc/kodi. well that's poop!

maybe this is a good place to ask about streaming between devices on kodi/xbmc - so i have everything as mkv files / mp3 files on my HTPC under my TV and have a NAS box that just mirrors everything for backup.

I've then got various phones/tablets/raspberry pi2 around the house and I share everything from the HTPC using uPnP, but i find the experience on the other devices somewhat lacking - They don't see the library, they just get to view the files from the HTPC? Is there some setup process I'm missing out on? Ideally I'd like to see the same "native" view of the library on each of my other devices, but with the files all residing on my HTPC... is there a way to achieve that?

Themes can be very different from one another, but you're not going to find a theme that has a large cover flow like that set as default. You will have to cycle through the different views to find one you like. I've definitely seen a view like what you're describing, but I can't remember which theme it was. Try Aeon Nox first, though. If I had to guess it would be that one.

In-app updating is just around the corner actually.

Share the files over the network, then look here for how to add them to Kodi: http://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sources

Finding the perfect skin is kind of a pain in the ass, no skin is perfect and lots of skins just have certain parts that I would love to have in my dream skin.

Either way I am still using Aeon Nox 4.x for Helix as I it's the skin that had all the configuration options/library display options I wanted.

So I had a look at his, have to say it's a pretty damn awesome skin.

Only thing missing was this view I had in Aeon Nox (I love the big fan art views), so I tried to hack it together for Zephyr.

Far from perfect, but somewhat resembles what I had in Aeon Nox.

I'm using an 5 year old gaming laptop with a new 120gb ssd and openelec right now.

I'm thinking about switching to something else as I want to play some games on it from time to time like steam and some emus.

Should I go win7, steamOS, Ubuntu, kodibuntu?

I have an Xbox one controller I use.

Need GAF's wisdome.

Only certain adapters are compatible. I found this out the hard way.

I was thinking that was the case, but I found a thread where someone is talking about how well mine works with normal Kodi (Cisco AE2500). It does jack shit when I plug it in, though. Did you wind up buying one that worked? If so, which one?

I did get another one that worked. It's by T-Link but I don't have the model number in front of me at the moment. I can look it up in a bit.

By "normal Kodi", do you mean running Kodi on something else than OpenELEC?
Because from what I could find it seems like that adapter lacks driver support on OpenELEC.

The quick googling I did makes it seem like you need to use ndiswrapper to get that USB dongle working. (ndiswrapper being a thing that allows the use of a windows driver in linux)

I'm sure you can install/compile the stuff yourself, but take it from experience: just buy the hardware that works natively. Updates can break your custom solutions and you don't want to have to fix it 6 months later when you forget what you did.

The thread I was talking about was normal Kodi, I am running OpenELEC. So, yeah. That's exactly it.

Exactly what I intend to do. Just have to figure out what to buy.

im too lazy to update XBMC

but im about to hit that point cause for some reason covers and shit arent showing up

RE: Skins

I switched from ReFocus to Xperience1080 3.5.

I'm not a huge fan. The UI isn't always 60 fps smooth on my old Radeon HD5450 (most other skins are, though), I can't find a setting to show the weather in °C and custom tiles is a neat idea, but setting them up seems to be a pain.

But at least the keyboard input works (with my MCE remote), which is more important to me.

I love this software and prefer it a lot more over the Windows Media Center.
But damn, if it hasn't spoiled me and makes me mad when features I otherwise wouldn't have access to and take for granted, suddenly don't work anymore.

Like AirPlay, for example.

I cold-booted my HTPC, tried to AirPlay a video to my TV from my iPad. Kodi shows up as AirPlay compatible, It tries to process the link and after few seconds it stops and the video is back in my iPad. No error, nothing. And it worked two days ago without issues.

I really hate it when stuff likes this becomes unreliable for no reason.

Hello,

I changed my ssd drive so I just format and reinstall everything but the weird thing is that now when I start or close Kodi I have this video noise effect for like 3 seconds then everything runs fine. It's like the video card has some switching process and meanwhile shows this. In this process I cannot see the skin logo or the Kodi logo loading. Any suggestions about how to solve this?

Here is the pic of the problem

Off the top of my head, double check if your video drivers are in order and if your Kodi settings are, too (resolution, refresh rate). Make sure whatever refresh rate you set Kodi to, your TV supports as well. For example, my TV supports 23.97 hertz/fps, but not 24, which is what several BBC programs like Top Gear run at. That gave me weird problems and took some doing to figure out.

Also, reinstalling the hardware and software involved can never hurt.

Aside from that, you're much better off posting on http://forum.kodi.tv/.

Thanks for the ideas, however my problem its not during the playback but just when I start or close Kodi, so it doesn't have anything to do with fps sync. I start it, got that weird effect for like 2 or 3 secs and then its OK....

Hey. Anyone have a solution for this? Lately some of my video files dont have any sound. If I start them with MPC HC it still has sounds, but in Kodi the sound is missing.
