Kojima: Death Stranding-action game like Metal Gear Solid, not Silent Hills substitute

Kojima certainly develop an interest in the evolution of our species as a theme for his games.
The parasite thing, the origin of language, sahelantropus, homo ludens and now this.

We all know he's got the mechanics and gameplay locked down. I trust him 100%. Admittedly I was pissed off with the MGSV story, it wasn't as good as it was made out to be but I don't think it's was entirely Kojimas fault.

This trailer though. That was something else. It evoked emotions only one game has ever done. I feel like this will be something special. Hope there's early gameplay or custecene cinematics at PSX.

I'm so glad I don't give a shit about story in video games, otherwise I'd probably never enjoy a video game again.

MGSV was the best game I've played since Galaxy 2 so this sounds great.

There is nothing to love about MGSV's story. It was insanely unnecessary to the overall saga. That is a fact. If it was omitted, nothing would change. In fact, you could say it hurt one the legend of one of the mosf important characters. The body double 'plot twist' was dumber than anything in MGS4, Peace Walker j-pop fight ending, and Ocelot's meowing in MGS3 combined. Big Boss became less of a character and Kojima tried making 'us' Big Boss. Retarded as shit. Kojima needs to prove himself competent again.

Fact!?. haha,OK

No he didn't. venom is his own character and has his own personality, you are taking that small forth wall breaking moment way too seriously. Putting a body double is the best and the most subtle way of showing BIG BOSS's downfall instead of doing generic villiany stuff

If you think that message at the end was "Hey, we're all Big Boss, neato!" then you missed the point. Don't get upset, many people, both audience and reviewers, have.

Of course, not only have all these people missed the point, but they've also fallen for Big Boss' bullshit.

That message at the end, as I see it, is Big Boss' last pat on the head to Venom before he goes off and dies in BB's place like a good dog.

Such actions I think show us exactly what sort of man Big Boss has become.

There are no facts, only interpretations.

Keep your facts for yourself. MGSV had a great meta story for me. Not everyone rikes it, cool.

woohoooo more crazy stuff man

love it go Kojima

sign me up!

hopefully there's some sneaking and (non)lethal take downs.

Great news. He won't be restricted in the story department like he was for some of the MGS games and the gameplay mechanics in TPP was pretty cool.

Don't mess it up like MGS5. People that have played MGS5 will know what l mean.

It really confuses me when someone refers to MGSV as a failure. The sheer versatile gameplay is what kept me exploring and replaying missions for hours. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the story, and I thought the relationship dynamic that was built between Quiet and Venom Snake was actually very heartwarming. I'm definitely looking forward to what Kojima has in store with this new game.

A lot of people enjoyed MGS5. I can't say I'm in the same boat at all.
If that's what Kojima thinks is good writing, and waiting 2 minutes for a helicopter to land is good design then I'm not interested.

If memory servers there's pretty early upgrades that make the helicopter arrive faster. I think it's one of those situations where if the area is clear sure, it can be a bit annoying to wait, but it can also be incredibly tense depending on the situation.

With all it's problems, it was still one of the best games I played last year.

Absolutely loved the gameplay and story for MGSV so really can't wait to see what he comes up with for his first brand new IP in forever.

Naked Norman Reedus killing whales and crabs with a baby attached to his belly with an umbilical cord. The new character action game by Kojima Productions.

I was hope that he working on Survival Horror game , so he can make a game like the Cancelled game " Silent Hills " , but even if he said it's action game , I know it will be an survival & dark game in some ways or that's what I hope

I'm guessing you never played a Metal Gear game besides MGSV then. None of the games have what I would call "good writing" at all. The only one that does is probably MGS3 and that still has the cheezy dialogue the series is known for.

Also, 2 minutes? Right....

What kind of writing would you consider good?

Basically ND games since last gen and The Witcher 3 off the top of my head. Not that the writing or story telling in MGS is bad, it's just not very good either. What makes fans so hooked to the series isn't the writing or story telling. It's the great characters and extremely interesting lore. Some weird shit happen in the games, but we just accept and love them. Also, Kojima has his own unique way of delivering the themes and messages in his games. That's what makes the story so interesting.

I have no idea what you mean.

The narrative of MGSV is typical off the walls Kojima, but the game design and gameplay is some of the most polished, and masterfully executed in the entire series. The game is a god damned dream to play. A masterclass in game design. I wish more games put as much thought and energy into the design as Kojima and his team did with MGSV. It's a fantastic game, with a narrative that didn't really feel necessary, or added much of anything to the MGS lore (although I enjoyed the meta commentary like always). But still, what a blast to play.

On topic, this game has me intrigued as fuck. I have no idea what Kojima is up to, but I'm really, really compelled by it so far. His teasers always leave people with question marks over their heads, and speculation runs rampant. This teaser oozed style and mystery, and I dug it.

the gameplay in MGS 5 was top notch so I'm happy with another action game from Kojima. I just hope the story is there this time around.

That's not it for me exactly, while I can say that overall I hated the MGSV story, I quite loved the twist and it certainly fits the whole MGS canon (some/most/everyone will know what I mean).

What I hated was:

* The story took forever to get going.
* Ocelot was kind of wasted after the introduction chapter.
* The whole wolbachia plot was kind of stupid (early nanomachines? not really, 10.000 times worse)
* No chapter 3~final payoff (f**k phantom pain if it was intentional, but really doubt it)
* Non traditional 4 bosses approach, game felt really weak in this regard.
* Sahelanthropus was so out of place.
* PSPs mission based / mother base managing gameplay makes the game last a lot longer but drags away from the story so much, a different approach would have been better.

But like I said, the twist was quite great for me, I can give Kojima that.

Lol sorry but that's not a fact, that's your opinion.
