Kojima is searching for a studio that will remake MGS1 in Fox Engine

I will destroy everything you hold dear.

Seriously, If they remake MGS1 and recast Solid Snake too, I'm done not just with the Metal Gear series, but with Konami as a whole.

Isn't that one and the same?

Either way, after not playing Twin Snakes, I'd be fine with seeing an updated version of MGS. A remake of MG1 & 2 would be glorious though.

So can I preorder yet? I don't care if this won't come out for four years. Take my money.

I'd love it if he had another studio working on remaking MGS1 while he himself remade MG1 after 5.

For the MGS1 remake, I'd love it if they used Hayter again, but instructed him to use his more normal subdued voice like in the original as opposed to the raspy caricature it has become. It was even more raspy in the Gamecube remake.

If Psycho Mantis uses Kinect to detect more than one person in the room, will he give some spiel on other people not paying their share and then pull a fake shutdown?

Whenever people talk about remaking "the first two" games, they're almost always talking about Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, so I'm wondering if the fan just said "first two games" and Game Reactor assumed he meant "MGS1 and MGS2."

Same here. Once I realised it didn't come direct from a MGS site I think it was just a bad assumption of the original author.

It Kojima did it himself, it would work. The issue with Silicon Knight's "remake", cutscenes aside, is that it added MGS2's First-Person View into the game and didn't rebalance the game because of it. Thereby it was really easy to beat.

Have you not played MG2? The similarities are astounding. You could even say that gameplay-wise they're virtually the same. :P

Biggest Megaton ever! DO IT!

As it turns out one of the journalists wasn't a journalist, but rather of fan of Kojima's from Turkey. Just how he had managed to make his way to the appointment is a mystery given the sparse number of slots available. Nevertheless, he expressed his admiration for Kojima and how Metal Gear had changed his life. If it wasn't for what happened next, I would probably have been a little upset about his inclusion, but as it turns out his contribution to this story isn't insignificant. Not wanting to ask any questions he made a couple of statements instead. First of all, he asked Kojima not to allow a Metal Gear Solid movie to be, as it simply could not live up to the narrative of the games. Secondly, he requested remakes using Fox Engine for the first two Metal Gear Solid titles.

Hideo Kojima restated some of the known facts about the Metal Gear Solid motion picture as well as stating his involvement and ambition to make it a great experience. As for the second request Kojima explained that he was actually in the process of searching out a studio he could task with adapting the first game to the Fox Engine. He noted that some of the mechanics would need updating, but apparently he's keen on a second remake following Silicon Knights' Gamecube adapation Twin Snakes and HD releases of the original game.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! CUM ALL OVER ME!!! DOO IT!

Well that would be lovely.

Retcoooooonss!!!

I first read the thread title as "Remake MG1"

Left slightly disappointed, yet enormously hyped.

If its not being done by KojiPro then not sure if want.

Make sure the voice actors actually sound like they give a shit this time.

Dennis Dyack can't catch a break!

Looks like I might be buying MGS1....again...

In my veins.

This is awesome news...

MY WISH WILL FINALLY COME TRUE

This one needs it. People like the shitty Twin Snakes version just cuz it has better graphics proves it.

Mercurysteam.

Ever since I saw
Shadow Moses in MGS4
, I've wanted a remake that wasn't Twin Snakes.

Please don't have Twin Snakes like cutscenes.

I'd buy so hard

please do it with "normal" cutscenes this time around

I wish he'd do it himself.

"...Starring Kiefer Sutherland as Snake!!!"

I'd definitely be up for this. I cannot get enough MGS.

I absolutely agree. I don't think any of the crazy action scenes are out of place except for the sideflip over the doorway and the missile backflip.

All of the Gray Fox scenes are amazing.

Will this remake include David Hayter? Will they use the original soundtrack and voice recordings? Be interesting to find out.

"A Hind D??!"

Came here to say this.

But we already got an aw
esome
MGS1 remake.

They could make the Psycho Mantis stuff pretty creepy with the new kinect

Would buy the shit out of it.

The epic nostalgia nearly gave me a heart attack

*Sigh*

*Gets the wallet*

I like this.

I thought we were friends. The line has been drawn.

A remake that isn't Twin Snakes. Good.

Damn, an MGS game I can get excited about.

MGS was great because the story hadn't gotten utterly off the rails crazy. Had just enough weird stuff to be cool.

I see. It seems interesting enough but I wonder is there really a large enough audience for this to justify a 'AAA remake' and the budget that it would require?

Seems to me that this would suit more of a PSN/XBLA release rather than a full retail release.

Oh god...

Psycho Mantis looks across your living room:

"I can see you like ladies' undergarments..."

Was just going to post that they keep this crap out of the game, it ruined it for me. Other than that, a MGS1 with the Fox Engine would be glorious.

So we had twin snakes and shadow Moses in MGS4 and now he wants to do another remake? Makes complete sense.

Yes Kojima DO IT. Would even buy copies to gift to anyone who did´nt played this masterpiece.

I have been dreaming of this for a long time.

The barrier for entry to the MGS series is too high now, if new fans want to jump into the series, playing a PS1/Gamecube title to catch up is not something many gamers are willing to do these days.

What if MG1/2 were playable flashbacks in the MGS1 remake? That would be rad.

NO NO NO NO !

That's too important. He has to do that internally. It's not like MGS2 & MGS3 HD edition.

There is more work to be done to MGS1. He has to do it.

MGS 1 deserves it.

MY BODY IS FUCKING READY FO DAT CUM

Twins Snakes do_not_exist period.

I need this.

OH MY GOD YES. DREAM COME TRUE.

Ever since we went back to Shadow Moses in MGS4, it's all I could ever think about!

yessssssssssssssss

I will never be tired of MGS1. An HD version would be great, hopefully they don't go to crazy like they did with Twin Snakes.

YES YES YES OH MY SWEET BABY JESUS.

PLS BABY MY FACE

I would prefer Metal Gear 1 and 2 though before hitting up next gen MGS remakes.

I would buy this at a high price.

MGS1 is my favorite out of all the Metal Gear games, so there's that.

I hope he picks a studio that is known for there technical ambitions, anything less would be pointless and would be better served internally.

After Silicon Knights fucked up MGS1, please no. If you're going to remake it, do it yourself Kojima, so you have the freedom to completely add new content and redesign areas if they're unbalanced. That's why REmake was so amazing, because Mikami added so much more to the game.

Just keep the original score this time, I really hated the OST in TS.

Please use the original voice actors, don't make grey fox sound like a retard like in the TTS..

No over the top cutscenes also.. Please

Remaking MGS1 in the Fox Engine sounds fine to farm out to a talented outside studio.

For those asking for a full remake of MG1/2, no. Kojima has to do that himself. It needs to be the full-budget, final AAA bookend chapter on the saga. SS vs BB.

Expect a new "Metal Gear Solid Ultra Epic Final Remix Collection" on PS4 with this remake and enhanced ports of MGS 2/3/4/Peace Walker in Ultra HD.
My god...

randymarshjizznqfdt.jpg

I'd pay full price for that.

Oh yes I can get on board for this, very much so. I would rather play through MGS1 again than any of the other titles since it's release. I am afraid that "updating" it means he is going to add a bunch of idiotic crap that shouldn't even be there. Improving the gunplay / stealth is one thing but having everyone back flip dodge missles is another (Twin Snakes.)

edit: while we are at it someone page Square-Enix and let them know it's okay to outsource a remake of FFVI / VII to another studio since they seem to be too busy releasing crap to bother with it.

Exactly. Let's hope Kojima learned that lesson. And on top of that they have to work on this project internally.

I'm ok with this. I loved the game as well. The cut scenes were over done but, but in the best way possible. The only thing I disliked was the VA. It seemed like most of them weren't excited to do it again and most lines felt flat. PS1 MGS1 VA was supreme.

I am ready for another remake.

It would be so awesome if this remake started not with the Shadow Moses incident, but with the final hours of MG2. Just split the game into two chapters, just like any other main MGS game.

Agreed. Clark's Liquid's delivery from MGS1 was legendary
"So why are you here then? Why do you continue to follow your orders while your superiors betray you? Why did you come here? ... Well... I'll tell you then. You enjoy all the killing, that's why."

Wow, I've been praying for a proper remake of MGS1.

MAKE IT SO KOJIMA. MAKE IT GODDAMN SO.

I kind of hope they add or change up the areas in the game. They left the levels and patrol patterns exactly the same in Twin Snakes and they added zero extra areas. I want a REmake level of remake this time; one that keeps things familiar but adds enough changes to warrant more playthroughs.

Kind of old news. The guys on the KojiPro podcast accidentally said this almost a year ago, but they were discussing the fact that KojiPro might do it. I'm incredibly excited for this new prospect, but will it really ever happen? Kojima says a lot of things that never come to be.

An MGS1 re-remake by an outsorced studio is fine, but a MG1 and MG2:SS remakes need to be by kojima himself with all the backing he can get, it'll give him the opportunity to make the necessary changes to plot and characters to fit everything that started from MGS1

Would love to see MGS1 remade with the same tech they have for MGS5. MGS4
return to shadow moses
was a pretty amazing moment.

I would also love to see the original metal gear games as well, but I feel like that's not something to be farmed out. I think Kojima would have to be involved pretty heavily to make that work.

Interesting news. Kojima has done enough remakes and sequels so outsourcing the new MGS is a good idea. Also, I love what Ninja Theory has done with Devil May Cry (good gameplay, style, soundtrack, graphics, level and character design) so yeah, why the fuck not.

However, keep Platinum Games away from Metal Gear no matter what.

Aaaw yeah! hook it to ma veins for the third time.

I can do it, gimme like a year or two, also cocaine.

I will create my own studio and page him.

Sign this old petition please and if you want a multiplatform remake i guess a new one could be appropriate :)

he said ''adapting the first game to the Fox Engine.''

That could mean the very first metal gear (but knowing kojima he would probably want to do them himself)

What happened to Kojima? He always wanted to stop making Metal Gear games... now it's like he won't stop announcing them, and his family is held hostage..

Are they going to completely redesign Shadow Moses so that the newer mechanics work? Provided they actually change the mechanics. Which they are more than likely to do. Twin Snakes is just so easy with the MGS2 mechanics shoehorned in. I can almost see them completely re-imagining the locale at this point.

I never understood this, it was cool at the time. Whats wrong with the flair it added?

I don't know about everyone else, but I kind of dug Snake's characterization in MGS1 as basically just a soldier who is very good at his job. He doesn't have time for FOXHOUND's theatrical bullshit and instead takes a very efficient, no nonsense approach to combat. Twin Snakes kind of throws that contrast away by making Snake just as reckless and ridiculous as the suicidal weirdos he's fighting.
