Kotaku isn't spinning anything, they're making fun of Kojima's spin.
TheHeretic said:Kojima's analogy about flying cars, mach speed and space travel was completely nonsensical. No wonder Edge had no idea what he was on about.
that also gave them the bad rep with many people who blame them for the actual reveal not having the full impact, and whatever future impact the scoop had.Dante said:Um actually, I think that got them unbanned here.

Except Edge did not sensationalise the story. If you read the Edge article, he says his ambitions were too high before they even had PS3 dev kits. And when he did, he had to change his vision; he couldn't achieve it yet. He did not say that MGS4 is disappointing or that PS3 is disappointing as Kotaku sensationalistic articles have gone on to drive as the main pointVideoMan said:Ok, I realize I'm stepping into the hornets nest here, but I wasn't familiar with the original story so I looked it up on Kotaku. Urrrmm, reading that story most of the Kojima bashing was coming from the direct quotes from Edge magazine and not the Kotaku author. Am I missing something, were there more articles about this? Because if not, I gotta say it's more of an Edge problem than a Kotaku problem. Someone straighten me out on this, I wanna join the Kotaku bashing party too.

TSA said:I fail to see anything said in his quote that says PS3 is a disappointment. If anything, he's saying his development team and he as a developer might be a disappointment.
He says that he's not smug, that it's Japanese nature to not be arrogant, that he's a developer, not a PR figurehead, and that you should always under promise, over deliver.

Even after translation, the meaning of his words was evident all along. Kotaku took some reasonable comments about not being able to fully realize his lofty ambitions and turned it into "Kojima says OMG MGS4 suxxorz PS3's fault".
Their continued pretence of journalistic integrity on this is just embarrassing.

Because being disappointed in not being able to start the vision you began with (and I mean Kojima's talking 3-4 years ago before he ever got the dev kit here), is not the same as being disappointed in what you're delivering. Kotaku interpreted and sensationalised it as the latterGremlinInTheMachine said:The original story said he was disappointed in the PS3's horsepower, right? The current translation says the same thing. He thought the PS3 would be able to travel into space at supersonic speeds and it can't. He's not saying his team isn't talented enough to get the PS3 into space and running at supersonic speeds, he's saying it can't be done. So how is Kotaku misrepresenting what he said?

I'm sure a lot of developers had high visions of CGI graphics and unbelievable hardware before we came into this gen. On both systems.

Some Asshat said:If you stick your foot in it and screw up, it's always easier to shift the blame, pull the You-Don't-Understand-Us-Japanese card or gloss over important details like, you know, reading. This wasn't a cultural misunderstanding or blowing things out of proportion, this was a PR disaster. Granted, maybe Kojima, after all these years, really isn't that savvy about dealing with the Western press. Maybe, he expects people to understand that he only uses double talk and metaphors because those are much easier for everyone to grasp. When in Rome, don't do as the Romans do!
This really begs the question: We understand why Kojima might be humble about his own game (fair enough!), but why be "humble" or make excuses for the PLAYSTATION 3? Last we checked, Kojima doesn't work for Sony.
