and thats where i gave up

:lol aww, so close!

Every time I actually check out Kotaku it's always a collection of old YouTube videos and pictures of perverted anime toys. Why should ANYONE actually respond to them?

Kojima's analogy about flying cars, mach speed and space travel was completely nonsensical. No wonder Edge had no idea what he was on about.

they broke the story on home, and some people will never forgive them for taking some of the wind out of the sails.

I think you have it the wrong way around... When the broke the Home news.. thats when Gaf Got all emotional and started liking Kotaku again and then the Gaf mods took Kotaku off the word filter.... But they had a horrible rep from before then for posting rumors as truth and sensationalizing stories.

Pretty much exactly the same reason why Joysdick is still banned.

Kojima's latest spin still results in Kojima admitting that the PS3 is a disappointment, except now he's a moron on top of it who automatically assumes a flying car can travel at the speed of sound and into space for reasons that defy all logic.

Kotaku isn't spinning anything, they're making fun of Kojima's spin.

... sigh... *checks post history... makes sense now.

It doesn't matter. He's a genius ;D

Kotaku has been pretty bias and sensationalist for awhile. Some writers more then others though.

Just from most of the writing you can see snide remarks on anything pro PS3, and apologistic posts on anything negative against the 360.

Seems this generation we can't get a just gaming scene news coverage without the immature high school politicing and clique BS.

Thats because we're inferior beings...

Ok, I realize I'm stepping into the hornets nest here, but I wasn't familiar with the original story so I looked it up on Kotaku. Urrrmm, reading that story most of the Kojima bashing was coming from the direct quotes from Edge magazine and not the Kotaku author. Am I missing something, were there more articles about this? Because if not, I gotta say it's more of an Edge problem than a Kotaku problem. Someone straighten me out on this, I wanna join the Kotaku bashing party too.

Original article: http://kotaku.com/381412/kojima-disappointed-with-metal-gear-solid-4
Except Edge did not sensationalise the story. If you read the Edge article, he says his ambitions were too high before they even had PS3 dev kits. And when he did, he had to change his vision; he couldn't achieve it yet. He did not say that MGS4 is disappointing or that PS3 is disappointing as Kotaku sensationalistic articles have gone on to drive as the main point

Thus why I said "we should just get Kotaku a dictionary so they can work out the difference between being "disappointed" and amibition"

I fail to see anything said in his quote that says PS3 is a disappointment. If anything, he's saying his development team and he as a developer might be a disappointment.

He says that he's not smug, that it's Japanese nature to not be arrogant, that he's a developer, not a PR figurehead, and that you should always under promise, over deliver.

Kotaku's whiny protests to being called out are both hilarious and pathetic.

Even after translation, the meaning of his words was evident all along. Kotaku took some reasonable comments about not being able to fully realize his lofty ambitions and turned it into "Kojima says OMG MGS4 suxxorz PS3's fault".

Their continued pretence of journalistic integrity on this is just embarrassing.

He thought the PS3 would be able to travel into space at super sonic speeds and it can't.

that also gave them the bad rep with many people who blame them for the actual reveal not having the full impact, and whatever future impact the scoop had.
Who?

Why would anyone dislike Kotaku for that? They broke the Home news and stuck to their guns when Sony tried to get them to remove it. That was one of their few good moments, and it did vindicate them around here for awhile

In fact Kotaku was getting great for awhile last year IMO. But now I'm noticing more and more "for hits" articles

I really can't stand Kotaku.

I mean, there are the obnoxious headline choices, and there's the occasional spreading of misinformation about games that don't really need misinformation spread about them. Pretty bad, sure, but it's the icing on the cake.

The worst thing about them is that they lap up the whole "gamer's lifestyle" attitude like nobody else I've seen. Which is probably the most revolting thing ever.

I think the OP didn't get what Kotaku really wanted to do by posting this news..:lol :lol :lol

Hey, if the messenger comes and delivers a perfectly civil message by screaming in your face and kicking over your furniture, why not shoot him?

The original story said he was disappointed in the PS3's horsepower, right? The current translation says the same thing. He thought the PS3 would be able to travel into space at supersonic speeds and it can't. He's not saying his team isn't talented enough to get the PS3 into space and running at supersonic speeds, he's saying it can't be done. So how is Kotaku misrepresenting what he said?

Now Kotaku's kicking over furniture and screaming by directly saying Kojima's disappointed with the PS3's horsepower? And the irony if your own hyperbole is lost on you?

Reminds me of the first two panels of this old Penny Arcade -- just replace "television" with "the internet" and you're golden.

Because being disappointed in not being able to start the vision you began with (and I mean Kojima's talking 3-4 years ago before he ever got the dev kit here), is not the same as being disappointed in what you're delivering. Kotaku interpreted and sensationalised it as the latter

I'm sure a lot of developers had high visions of CGI graphics and unbelievable hardware before we came into this gen. On both systems.

Last gen too! That's just how it is.

Put me in for banning them as well.

It was obvious what Kojima was trying to convey, even if the mans analogies are batshit insane. He wasn't fully aware of the PS3's capabilities and had to reduce the scope of his vision a little. The whole thing is just a load of nonsense, he wouldn't openly dismiss his own game so close to its release ffs.

fixed.

The problem with Kotaku's original story and their whiny followup today is they are both sensational. Their first post was out of context only highlighting what made it sound the way they wanted too.

Kojima's new interview just pointed out how stupid some sights were to take that out of his interview and tried to explain it. Kotaku's new post is we "didn't try to suck, just looked that way and if he doesn't like it not our problem"

I wouldn't even have any problem with them sort of pointing out that it's just damage control on Kojima's behalf, (because... you know, he's making a PS3 game, and having people think the PS3 isn't good enough for what his original vision was is bad) but then when you put up something like THIS with the story:

If you stick your foot in it and screw up, it's always easier to shift the blame, pull the You-Don't-Understand-Us-Japanese card or gloss over important details like, you know, reading. This wasn't a cultural misunderstanding or blowing things out of proportion, this was a PR disaster. Granted, maybe Kojima, after all these years, really isn't that savvy about dealing with the Western press. Maybe, he expects people to understand that he only uses double talk and metaphors — because those are much easier for everyone to grasp. When in Rome, don't do as the Romans do!

This really begs the question: We understand why Kojima might be humble about his own game (fair enough!), but why be "humble" or make excuses for the PLAYSTATION 3? Last we checked, Kojima doesn't work for Sony.

Then you're basically doing nothing more than putting up some intentionally inflammatory shit on the internet to bask in the glow of people paying attention to you. THIS is why they have to call themselves "bloggers" and not "journalists".

Fuck, I don't even like Metal Gear games and that post makes me sick.

And again at this part...

Oh gee, I don't know, maybe because he's MAKING A GOD DAMN PLAYSTATION 3 GAME?!
