The title may be a bit overzealous, but this is something I'm genuinely curious about. Seems this fellow Mark Wilson would rather pay for nothing on the 360 than pay for actual in-game content on PS3. I don't get it.

Does it bother anyone else that his bicep is nearly bigger than his head? On a side note, Tecmo has announced three Survival Mode expansions for Ninja Gaiden Sigma—the first of which will hit for about $3—and we're guessing the rest will go for a similar price.

8/30: Weapons Master Mission, five weapon limit September: Speed Master Mission, quick fights on a time budget October: Rachel Master Mission, different character with five survival tests


None of these expansion missions are rocking my world, but each will offer a tangible measurement for a global ranking system sure to cut your ego down pretty quickly. And besides, your subsequent dependence on booze is a priceless commodity.

Dear. Microsoft,
I love the 360. Even though it breaks, and mine is currently making sounds that can best be verbalized as R2D2 getting raped, I'm enjoying the console.

But about those dashboard themes. Yes, I'll pay for them. You knew it all along, so congrats. What I want to know is: why can't I update my Marketplace blade? Because I'll be wasting time tabbing back and forth, experiencing the sybaritic joy of Earth tones combined with the dashboard's oceanic swooshing effect, and BAM! BRIGHT ORANGE!

Please fix. I'm sure that a Smackdown Vs. Raw background on Marketplace will not hinder my consumerism.

A theme is $1.50 (120 points), the PS3 in-game content is $3, the price of two themes. A picture pack is $1 (80 points) for comparison. It's $1 or $1.50 to pay for pictures...

I'm all for good DLC, I bought the Crackdown DLC pack at $10 (800 points), because it was loaded with content, but I'm not going to buy Horse Armor, because it's a ripoff and does nothing, like a theme. The PS3's DLC in question seems fairly priced, the system has free wallpapers on PSN and even the 360 allows you to put up your own pictures from a USB thumbdrive, though you can't customize the blades, but still, it allows me to put up some nice nature-esque wallpapers.

Why would Mark Wilson and countless other gamers rather throw money away on nothing than buy actual content?

all i can gather from these two excerpts is that he might prefer to buy dashboard themes than the specific dlc for ninja gaiden. but since those statements weren't made in the same vacuum, i can't even say that much.

Downloadable Content needs to really just admit to itself that it either needs to be free small things like this, or larger expansion-pack type deals.

The difference is that MS charges for small things like Gamerpics, Themes, Digital OXM, game video strategy's, etc. And remember MS wanted to charge for the Gears pack, Epic wanted it to be free.

Oh and not to mention that most demos can only be downloaded with a Gold membership for a few weeks before Silver members can access them. And to top it all off I'm already paying 50 bucks a year. Hell MS would probably charge their users for Folding@home if they had it.

A mobile phone faceplate makes a lot more sense than 4 pics obscurred by dashboard icons and items

All the themes I use are either free, or ones I just got of my computer and set as the background on my 360 (while you can't pick a seperate picture for each blade, alteast it's free and there's infintie choices)

Interesting, I didn't even think of this.

Things are overpriced, because people are accustomed to paying overpriced charges. Publishers don't need to be fair, let alone free, because people will pay for them anyway. Activision sees people pay $1.50 for a theme and $1 for a picture pack and they get away with charing $2 for a song.

Ugh....I think he said that he didn't particularly like the expansions, not that he was against paying for them, nor that he thinks nobody should pay for them. Simply that he doesn't particularly like them.

So then from that tiny off hand comment you seem to have linked it to him saying that he bought something he does like on Live, and you are now trying to twist this into a Live vs PSN debate and imply that kotaku is biased because he bought something he liked on Live but said that something totally unrelated on PSN didn't float his boat?

I'm pretty sure they have spoken and MS has just ignored them. Free money from pictures is too good to pass up. Most I've paid for a movie ticket was $8 which was ok because it was an indie theater and I knew it wouldn't be cheap, I'd certainly say no thanks to $10, because jesus christ that's a ripoff.
