KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

We have the JS8500 from the previous year. 65". I think it's essentially the same set, right? Follows that we could probably use the same settings for optimal IQ?

Is this really the definitive HDR 4K bang for buck HDTV?

Aren't there other good TVs similar to this quality from Sony and Vizio?

@georaldc
I had a "handpicked" Sony 55W905 for 2 years and there wasn´t any banding at all. Panel lottery FTW.

Interesting. Do you have Lost Odyssey by chance? I was talking about those gradation issues by the way, similar to your pics. Lost Odyssey has them too on the title screen, and it's visible on both my TVs (and they go away when using my Sony's Smooth Gradations option). I believe some of the settings menus on the Xbox One OS has them too.

Sure, but they all have higher input lag in HDR game mode.

Samsung KS8000: 21.1 ms
Sony X850C: 31.6 ms
Vizio P Series 2016: 63.2 ms

If you're not gaming, there are several options. If you are only playing single-player games, then the Sony would probably be good enough.

One thing that annoyed me over the weekend is that the web browser trackpad feature on the new Smart View app stopped working. Tried updating from 1155 to 1160 with no dice.

Have they talked about having to manually switch the settings for HDR in game mode? It's getting really annoying.

Is it just me or are the apps on this thing super prone to crashing and hanging? Like I can't even switch between 2 apps without one of them hanging so bad I have to cold boot the tv. Pretty bad for such basic software.

I recently discovered that you can hold the back button to completely kill an app. And yeah I've needed to do it a fair amount with the YouTube app.

I talked to Samsung but they dont seem to have a clue about this issue..I just want to be sure that this was in fact deleted with the latest firmware update(1160) before I updated my TV..when I would turn it on, it would always show me live tiles of what TV shows were currently on(It would appear above the TWCapp) ever since I updated, its all blank and nothing I do brings it back..Samsung told me that it was removed in their latest update but then someone else told me their TV still has it even though they updated so not sure what to believe..I took a pic to show you all what I see now

see how now its blank..before it would be filled with live images of whatever shows were on during that particular time

Oh wow that is a noticeable problem and like I, you have a KS9000. I haven't noticed that on mine and hopefully I don't get that. Do you know which panel you scored?
How would I know what panel I got? This bug happens very rarely by the way, even without toggling HDR to force it. I think I've seen it happen once or twice for a split second while playing FF XV

Have you tried using the LED Clear Motion option?

Well yeah it does make everything darker, and doesn't using any of the motion settings launch input lag past 100ms ? It's like you have to choose between image ghosting and judder or bad input lag. Not exactly ideal.

I get this bug every few days where some confusion happens when the TV is trying to switch between HDMI sources automatically when it senses power, and it dissociates the PS4 first usually, forgets what it is and then can never re-identify it even if I redo the Start Setup. Even if I manually change it to Game Console and enter in PlayStation, it keeps dissociating it whenever it switches between HDR & SDR.

The only way to fix it is to fully reset the TV... then I have to re-input all my settings on every source, picture/viewing mode, and for HDR/SDR profile on each. Then I get some kind of post settings reality perception disorder or something, and can't tell if something's wrong or not for like a day or two, or if it's just my imagination. Legit triggered.

I'm not sure I'm clear on what the problem is. What do you mean by dissociating? It sounds like you are saying that the input stops showing up as a PlayStation with the appropriate icon, but does it still work? Can you still select that input and play games?

'HDR+ mode' looks great in some games. Nintendo games at 4K look beautiful with it. Not sure about the input lag versus 'game mod'.

Checked AVS, looks like you have to add the universal remote setting for DirectTV, one user confirmed it came back after doing so.

Anyone here get 1160, any notable differences, is Game Mode now auto HDR the backlight or is that just a pipe dream at this point.

Yes, I had much improved results using HDR+ and Digital Clean View for PS3 games. Without those it was a visual disaster and it with them it's not too bad.

Finally got my set after nearly two months of waiting and I'm really happy with it but then I realized it has some light bleeding (I think that's what it is, not sure about the terms) in the bottom left corner. It can be unnoticeable a lot of the time but I just keep staring at it so I think I'm gonna ask for a replacement.

You can compare the left and right bottom corners to see what's going on.

I called the store earlier and they say I have to call samsung directly to arrange a home visit, which to be honest is kind of a relief (or so I hope) because it might be faster if they just come and replace it, since the TV itself it's on backorder again at the store I bought it.

It's not something that I can't live with but it's not a cheap TV and I plan to keep it for many years so I hope they can replace the panel.

(I'm from Mexico by the way, this is the KS7000).

I know how annoying imperfections on these TVs can be, especially when they're so expensive. I can't help but look for issues I know are on my TV and it can stop me paying attention to the show I'm watching or game I'm playing.

What I will say, though, is that the issue on your TV looks small - literally and figuratively. Of course it might be worse in a darker room, but I've heard such horror stories about these TVs that I've decided not to send mine back in case I get a worse one. And if that's the only issue you have, do think carefully about returning it.

I have Time warner cable, not sure if that makes a difference..so what exactly do I have to do..go into universal remote setting and do what exactly because when I went to source and went to universal remote, it shows me time warner cable, my XBOX ONE so Im not sure what exactly I have to press

I was able to tell by looking at the box the TV came in.

The version indicated the panel. I have the AA02 which is an AU optronics panel, alternatively you could also find out by accessing the service menu.

Edit: I highly recommend against accessing the service menu btw.

Yes, it retains it's settings as per the associated HDMI and still works as an HDMI source, but then begins to constantly ask or attempt to unsuccessfully identify the device every time it switches between SDR or HDR, or between HDMI ports. Once one begins doing it, the other HDMI ports eventually do it for their devices too. It presents a notification pop up on screen every time, and that has to be manually dismissed or accepted. There's no point in accepting it's prompt to identify the "new" device that it dissociated because it never again can finish the identification process, it will just quickly identify anything it currently already knows, and then continuing doing it's little loading/scanning circle swirl for as long as you let it sit there for the now forgotten device(s).

So it works and you could tolerate it, but not enjoy it. The only way to fix it is to reset the TV and then re-enter all my settings for everything again.

Huh. That sucks. I run everything through my receiver so there's only one input being used on the TV but it's constantly changing the name and icon it to what it thinks it should be (Xbox,Playstation, PC, etc.) This automatic input naming/icon is unwelcome but I don't see anyway to turn it off and it's not been a hassle for me. I've never had the TV prompt me to accept anything or show a notification or loading circle. The only way I know the input name/icon has changed is to bring up the input screen.

I can see how that would happen, yeah. I wish I could turn off some of these specific smart functions until it's a little smarter. It has it's pros, but clearly some drawbacks.

RE: RGB color separation issue in Game Mode

Someone in the Samsung thread is saying their problem went away after swapping out for another premium HDMI cable.

I wonder if it boils down to it being a problem with some of the premium HDMI cables bundled with PS4 Pro (and XBOX One S?), or if they just haven't had it happen yet on their new cable and just think it's fixed.

If anyone ends up swapping out for a new HDMI cable, curious to see if it fixes the problem or not.

I've been meaning to buy a couple new, nice HDMI cables to try and make sure I'm getting everything I can out of it. Any recommendations? Informative videos or articles? I don't want to overspend or underspend.

From what I hear, the Amazon high speed HDMI cables work pretty good, also ones from monoprice as well.

Someone has already chimed in and said they still had the RGB separation problem after swapping out cables, so I'm doubting it's just a bad batch from Sony or something.

It's my understanding that unless you're running them a considerable distance, a cable is just a cable if it's working as intended. The only differences you're going to encounter are how snugly the connector fits, how pliable the cord is, how often you end up with a dud cable, that kind of thing...not "how great the signal looks" or some other nonsense to upsell you on $100 ($1000!) cables.

Haven't had to buy a new "premium" spec cable yet, but I've always been fine with buying from Monoprice in the past.

Hey all,

My TV is arriving thursday and I just realized I need a handful of new HDMI cables! Which ones should I get on Amazon?

Thanks!

I was using a fancy Amazon Basics cable when the issue was happening to me. It stopped, perhaps coincidentally, when I changed to a more expensive third party brand.

The thing is, I think that that new cable was mistakenly listed as compliant with HDMI 2.1, which is why I bought it.

All you can do is suck it and see.

Surely there has to be a less degrading way to find the right HDMI cable.

The problem is that all of these cables are labeled HDMI High Speed but their quality can vary a lot and that can cause weird issues. Mostly at longer lengths so just get the shortest cable that you can use and it should be fine. For example my PS4 Pro bundled cable works perfectly fine with my TV but have had terrible problems with long cables trying to connect my PC in an adjacent room. There seems to be zero guarantee that whatever you buy will work 100%. I have had cables randomly cutting out to downright dropping resolutions, refresh rates or color formats. All you can do is try to read forums and reviews to see if you find something that seems to work for most people.

The same thing happened to my brother's TV, a lot of light bleeding at one of the bottom sides

My brother called Samsung and asked for a replacement and it was a pain. The turnaround time to replace the tv was going to be 2-3 weeks (he had no other tv atm), so he just bought a new one and returned this one

Surely there has to be a less degrading way to find the right HDMI cable.

We have the plot of a sordid science fiction film about robots who don't have the credits to upgrade themselves.

Here's the cable I bought to replace my Amazon one. As I said previously, when I got it the listing mentioned 2.1 compatibility, but it doesn't anymore. I think that somewhere in the customer reviews it mentions this brand has been brought up on avforums as recommended, but do your own research.

EDIT - I'm sorry, when I first looked at the image I was on mobile and didn't see that obvious bit of brightness at the bottom; I saw a long horizontal line a little farther up. My TV doesn't have anything that obvious, but that seems like an unusual viewing position. If you don't see the brightness as starkly when sitting down normally, perhaps it's something you could live with.

Original post - I don't have quite the same issue where there's a brighter line that far out, but there's definitely a 1cm 'frame' around the edges of my TV where its ever so slightly brighter. Just slightly. I assume that's just the edge lighting.

1162 firmware is out over the air today, can anyone confirm or deny is game mode HDR settings are now saving properly?

Probably not though :****(

It's not.

Anyone else have annoying audio delay? Like, if I'm watching youtube or netflix and pause the video, when I resume, there's no sound for about half a second, so I need to rewind every time. It's also not possible to hear the first half second of audio since the sound goes out every time I skip. This occurs both on the TV apps and when using them through my PC to my TV. It doesn't occur when I'm playing files directly, like in media players on my PC or TV, so I assume it's related to streaming. It happens with both my external speakers and the TV speakers. This didn't happen on my old TV.

Yeah my 60 inch KS8000 just got the 1162 OTA, just confirmed it does not fix the HDR game mode thing.

I'm starting to think it will never be fixed.

Hoping this fixes the browser touchpad not showing on app issue.

It's not.

Sadness, at this point I doubt it will ever be changed :/

As for the sound, there is an option in audio where you can set the audio delay... maybe this could help?
