Kung Fu Live announced (side-scrolling brawler for PSeye)

This looks soooooooooo unbelievably terrible. And hilarious.

Looking at the camera sideways seems like it'd be weird. I wonder if it would still work okay if you put the camera to the side. You could face the tv and see whats going on without turning your head, but the camera could still get the sideview of your moves.
It should work but I guess for most people that's not really an option in their living rooms (at least it's not for me).

Reminds me of this, but the background and scrolling makes it better. Power moves ftw:lol

Pretty much the same quality I expect from natal titles.
You expect Natal to just have basic 2D camera-based gameplay, despite access to a 3D depth sensor and skeletal tracking software? That would be a massive waste of it's potential.

This looks exactly like that DSI ware 1 dollar game where you scanned yourself in with the poses and fought a la mortal kombat, same guys?

Well this looks a lot better, hopefully it's still cheap because at a low price this is such a buy. :lol

However, this doesn't negate the fact that I'm staring at the TV and punching and kicking the air. Because of the 2D orientation of the game, you'll be facing forward, but moving side to side, which is simply not as intuitive as facing the screen and moving in the same direction.

Yeah, I'd just going to reposition my PSeye so I can be playing with my head facing forward, while 'looking' forward in the game itself.

I like the reactions in this thread. It's a preview of E3. You have the guys who don't take things too seriously and think it looks fun and the hardcore dudes that scoff at motion control. Needs more guns and blood etc.

How many times you tell people this, they will never listen.

Let them have it, ignorance is bliss.

I feel like it's better to have lower expectations than higher ones. I'm sure they'll unveil some good games for natal at E3.

Haha, this looks like awesome fun, if it works right. Reminds me of that old Kids game show where they would "put" you into games using a bluescreen

I bet kids and some adults would love this, or bring out when you got a few friends over to see everyone act foolish. Graphics are nice.

I was going to make the Natal joke too, but someone beat me to it :P.

It looks rather goofy, but it might be fun in a party environment. If it's sold at a low price on PSN, then it could see some success.

Despite a few shortcomings, Kung-Fu Live is an entertaining diversion. With a PSN-friendly price tag ("under $15," we were told), coupled with some interesting connectivity options (with Facebook and YouTube), it should be a novel addition to the libraries of new PlayStation Eye owners later this year.

Sold!

Besides the obvious nekid stuff, there is a good chance for some awesome (and disturbing) content coming from this game. :lol

I always wondered something.

Why can't we just put the cameras to the side, perpendicular to you, instead of right in front of you.

That way you can do those forward style moves and keep you head straight without a constant head turn.

Looks like it can be fun. No way this can be sold as a retail game but for a $9.99 maybe even a $14.99 PSN game, I would pick it up.

This game is the definition of awesomely bad. The people dissing it in here are probably the same scrubs who refuse to enjoy 80s metal music videos because they're too "cheesy."

I think this is awesome, it's obviously not a game that is taking itself too seriously, it's just cheesy fun, I'd love to play this with friends, I'm glad at least Sony are showing us new stuff.

Some new info on this via PS blog:

As some of you may have heard, we announced Kung-Fu Live with a playable sneak preview last week in New York. The reception from journalists, as well as gamers, has totally overwhelmed us! We also found ourselves in the middle of the rising motion gaming discussion as many of the stories call out that our game already does what Natal is trying for: Kung-Fu Live uses full-body skeleton tracking to track the player’s moves in real-time. Thus, people have been saying that our game and tech using the PlayStation Eye is stealing the thunder from Natal. LOL!

shots fired? :lol

PS: I am buying this for the fun...my son would love this as he is learning karate :D

I didn't know the PSEye could do full body skeleton tracking, that's news to me, I thought it only did head tracking.

well apparently they have used it to do full body tracking and looks pretty good :D

I think PSEye has been under utilized by the devs and Sony has not really pushed it either. Hopefully now competition from Natal, Sony pushes it more so more devs embrace it and create some new gaming experiences

Kung-Fu LIVE will be published independently by Virtual Air Guitar Company Ltd., and will provide a fast, fun, and action packed experience while ushering in a new era of full-body motion gaming when it launches on PlayStation Network on December 8th 2010, for just £10.99. You can view the latest trailer over at the official Facebook page, and Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on Kung-Fu LIVE.
