L.A. Noire news coming next month

After so long in development, I expect them to port it to everything to recoup some money...maybe we'll get a SNES and Commodore 64 port.

Day 1.

If the rumor is true about why Sony dropped it then they pulled a Conviction before that.
What was that rumor again?

I just remember talking to someone who had seen it, I think, and that it was considered too slow-paced and essentially too adventure-like for today's audience. Thought they'd changed it after those reactions because that's when the media blackout started. But I might be wrong.

I think we're the only two people in the entire world who are bothered by this.

Add me to the list as well.. It's a bizarre videogame thing that I never got comfortable with. Previews is another videogame thing, but at least it's something I can enjoy even though I know it will ruin some of my experience with the finished game.

Anyway, looking forward to some information even though I'm not scheduling it :)

There's still usually comments on Tsumea about how boring the game is, so I'm inclined to believe not much has really changed, unless you are referring to R*NYC dictating creative direction, which seems plausible. Brendan McNamara seems to have a bit of a complex, and I don't think he would change his vision if he wasn't forced to. With the constant turnover, I doubt there's much pressure at the studio.

Vague hints about "innovative" game mechanics that were apparently so "polarizing" (surfer girls words) some people quit their jobs over them probably make this game even more enigmatic than it probably deserves.

Also, i'm interested in what keynote you're refering to - i've tried my best to keep up with news on the game but this must've slipped past me.

Slow paced? Too Adventure-like for todays audience? You, sir, just got me hyped for the game! Altough I fear Rockstar requested more hookers to ride over.

I remember being majorly excited about this a few years ago when I saw that first trailer. The idea of playing a sandbox game in that setting seemed awesome. But, the moment has gone.

Fucking a man. Its seems rockstar is horrible at managing their development studios. 5 years? Jesus. God bless that GTA money.

Team Bondi is not a R* Studio.

Is this game open world or a linear action adventure?

Open-world.

Isn't this from the dudes of Getaway, and was supposed to be some L.A Confidential type thing?

There's probably a lot of influences from Black Dalia (the book) in this. I think that the Black Dalia murder may even feature in the game along with the other murders. There were rumors of a new trailer shown at closed doors back in 2008 (those rumors were pulled from the web later, they where even available in Wikipedia) that a character from LA Confidential featured in the trailer. LA Confidential is one of the books in the trilogy that Black Dalia belongs to.

If true, my expectations for this game just shot way up.

I loved the L.A. Quartet (The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential, White Jazz).

We finally get to see what on Earth Rockstar have been doing for the past 5 years.
I'm looking forward, I'm quite intrigued by the 1920's setting :)

Well, it's not a rockstar developed game, to be exact.
And I think you mean 1940's setting ;)

LA Noire is about one of my most favorite periods in US history. I'm so there.

1940's it is then:D

Still amazes me that we've seen nothing from the game for 4 years, you sure it's not Rockstar developed? :P

been looking forward to this for so long, still havent seen anything of value that says its not just on the ps3. at least if it its on the xbox i will just blame that as the reason it has taken so long.

Yeah, apparently Harrison fell out with the studio heads too.

Well I hope they kept the story and character driven detective novel type idea and didn't instead go for a GTA in the 40s type approach. Saboteur is vaguely that and good at it already.

From what I remember Phil Harrison and the studio head Brendan McNamara never saw eye to eye; because he never makes deadlines even since the days of Team SOHO.

Well, it says "next gen consoles" on Team Bondi's website, and considering Sony isn't the publisher anymore and the supposed very high cost of development falling on Rockstar I honestly doubt it's still an exclusive. Gota recoup those costs.

Team Bondi are ps3 fanboys.

I wonder what.

Were they supposed to make a Mafia like game, and ended up showing a Heavy Rain in an open world like game?

Because that gets me pretty excited.

Why are people so excited about it? Did they even announce what the genre is: FPS, TPS, something else? GAF is weird.

Does it have to have a confirmed genre for us to be excited about it?

I just really like the concept.

Rockstar is probably exerting a fair bit of control here; they replaced the Aussie cast (voice, likenesses, motion capture) they had already recorded with a new American one.

They've only been with Rockstar for four years, and Sony for three years before that. It seems Sony was expecting L.A. Noire to be a PS3 launch title, which Bondi was not remotely close to meeting (consistently missing deadlines, but I think it is a bit naive to expect anything else from McNamara).

I'm assuming this is why.
That was render trailer done by an outside firm. Just saying.

What more do you know? Never heard that. Also, why replace likenesses and motion capture? Aren't aussies photogenic enough or something? Voice I understand but the rest...

Plus I thought they started the motion capture recently ( a few months ago). Seems quite strange to say that all the motion capture was already done and now replaced.

Anyway, can you give some more info? I'm curious.

I think Outsider has been put on hold. Too many years have gone by.

David Braben continues in recent lectures to refer to the Outsider as a project that is coming along, so I doubt that. That, and see the post above mine.

Did you not see the trailer they released? The concept looks great!

EDIT: It's getting a cover story next month, the gaming mag hasn't been confirmed yet.

It's setting is intriguing, plus GAF seems to have a softspot for noir thriller
