maybe they can crowdsource talent from Mario Maker
Top secret, evil plan confirmed.

EAD has basically become a brand that everyone loves. It's already weird they're changing it.Might take some time for everyone to call them EPD and not EAD / SPD anymore.
3D World, not a fan at all. Which sucks since I love 3D Mario... it's just not a real one.

I remember Nintendo saying that they'd rather go out of business than go third party. And trust me, you wouldn't want a third party Nintendo. As a hardware maker, Nintendo is pushed to bring more variety in their titles. If they went third party, all you'd get would be Mario, Zelda, Pokémon on mobile, Smash, Mario Kart, & Splatoon.I actually hope they abandon NX and just develop for the PS4, One and mobile.
At least I'm out in open about it unlike some.
If NX bombs and the mobile games are huge hits, I think it's likely.
No one loved SPD because they didn't create the breadwinners, and were treated as second class citizens.
Lol, throw the fishing line out even further
Of course you do.
They had their shot at the big leagues and it was a disaster. No one loved SPD because they didn't create the breadwinners, and were treated as second class citizens.
That's why they're most likely moving towards a shared platform that they can support mostly on their own with little-to-no software droughts. With mobile gaming being a thing, Nintendo has to either sacrifice one of their existing platforms or combine them into one with multiple form factors. From what Iwata said & the recent patent, the latter is most likely the case. You think they'll continue throwing good money after bad for eternity?
Nintendo has to prove there is still a place for their hardware in the market. It's not a certainty there is.

Brain Age won them lots of bread though^^ ...plus people like dat 2D Metroid

To be more specific, western third parties are pretty much done with Nintendo for the foreseeable future. They still have the likes of Capcom, Bandai Namco, Sega, Level-5, Atlus (technically with Sega), & Square-Enix behind them. That's not even mentioning the huge amounts of indie support that Nintendo has cultivated. This restructuring is just another hint towards this shared platform for both the next console & next handheld. But at least with the third parties mentioned, Nintendo doesn't have to do everything themselves. Plus there's the likes of WB Games & Activision that Nintendo has a remote chance of winning back. Ubisoft is a 50/50 shot at winning over, since they were most likely burned by the Wii U.Yep, third parties are done with Nintendo that's pretty evident. So they can't spread themselves too thin to support two distinct platforms, way easier to make one.

I personally hope he retires soon. He's got an insane pedigree, and has done more for gaming than anyone, but I think he's lost his touch. They need someone younger calling the shots.
But as long as one of the NX Platform SKUs is a handheld, it'll sell. More so since Nintendo has next to no competition in the dedicated gaming handheld front. It's just that said handheld will be sharing most of its games with the console (except maybe Pokémon). They still have to be able to sell hardware. It doesn't matter if NX is one device or a hundred if they can't move units.

I have a gut feeling that the NX Console will at least support UE4. Not sure about the handheld, but I recall Epic having a mobile build of UE4 that the NX Handheld could use.And if said Handheld/Console/Platform supports UE4, it's going to get a lot of Square Enix JRPG's on it so they can sell those Console JRPG's to handheld-focused Japanese gamers.
and later mobile.
Second page and we already got "NintenDoomed" and "Miyamoto Sux retire already" posts.

If they liked that 2D Metroid they wouldn't have turned Other M into a 3D one that was linear as fuck.
That was a case of them not knowing what the fuck they were doing, nor them knowing anything about their audience.
And a third party Nintendo wouldn't have Smash Bros., because all of those franchises that make up Smash Bros. wouldn't have any more games, meaning there'd be no point in putting them out there.

The NX Handheld is at least guaranteed to sell. It's if the NX Console will sell that's the question. And again, you wouldn't want a third party Nintendo. It's a matter of time. Gaming trends in Japan will pull Nintendo deeper into moble, they'll have to follow the audience.
If the NX still sells like shit worldwide, third party is still there for them.
Why do you have to make this about Other M again?
Actually, it was Team Ninja's insistence that Other M be a 3D game. Sakamoto wanted to make it like Pandemonium!/Klonoa.
Yeah, pretty much.I'm going to miss the EAD name. It's the only division that has managed to keep its name since the old NES days and it also carries a lot of emotional weight, especially for older Nintendo fans. For me, EAD basically means "Miyamoto's Dream Factory". EPD just doesn't have that same ring to it.
Doesnt seem like massive layoffs ate a part of the plan. Lets keep that tradition.

SPD isn't exactly known for their great internal work and results when it comes to game quality.
My greatest concern is that nobody has been grooming replacements for the great, old, creators and there is nobody to step up and continue the legacy.
Nintendo needs to make their next console launch count this time. They can't afford another 3ds or Wii U disaster again, they need to actually have software ready and promised for it.The NX Handheld is at least guaranteed to sell. But in all likelihood, their console & handheld lunch line-up will be one & the same. That being said, the only noteworthy titles that can come to the NX Platform for a 2016 launch are the next 3D Mario & a port of Zelda U. Maybe Pikmin 4, but there's a good chance that it'll end up on the Wii U. Plus Game Freak is most likely keeping Pokémon Z on the 3DS.Nintendo needs to make their next console launch count this time. But the NX won't just be a home console, at least based on what (little) we know. From the start I've been that odd Nintendo fan saying they should and one day would try mobile and 3rd party console development to augment a core handheld business (for as long as such can survive). I was told I was a traitor for suggesting it and a moron for believing either could ever happen.
I'm now 1 for 2, and if NX fails I'm pretty sure I'll be 2 for 2.
I think Miyamoto is basically as brilliant as he has ever been, but has too much power within the company. Essentially I think Nintendo needs an anti-Miyamoto to challenge him when he's wrong and make the things Miyamoto would never make. I think Gunpei Yokoi used to be the anti-Miyamoto, but nowadays it looks like Miyamoto's been placed on an untouchable pedestal.
Miyamoto is fantastic, but he shouldn't be in charge of all of the software output at the company.

"Someone younger," as if there are a ton of young Miyamotos just milling around at Nintendo.
If there aren't, then it's been because of a failure of leadership to foster an environment where there could be. One of the main responsibilities of a business is to have a next generation of talent to replace the irreplaceable.
