Larry Hryb: Xbox One External Storage Coming "Soon"

Probably coming in May. I'm not in a hurry for this, but I'm going to need this before the end of the year.

External is fine but is it hard to swap out the internal one? Does it void warranty or get you banned like it did with the 360?

Personally I rather swap the internal just to reduce clutter.

How about tossing this at the 360 as well while you're at it. 32 GBs (max 64 with two drives) on top of whatever size HDD you have is not cutting it for me nowadays. Last year has been murder on my free space due to all the sales that have happened on GOD titles.

Let me hook up a 2-3 TB drive to my 360 as well.

What about letting people change the internal drive?

Unless they release a different xbox one version with this in mind then this suggestion isn't something that can be patched via software. The One wasn't designed for the drive to be easily removed like on the PS4.

I'm real disappointed in Microsoft for the major short sightedness they showed in the hardware for this generation. Mediocre RAM and a 250 gig hard drive is pathetic, especially since Microsoft really wants to push digital only content. I mean talk about anti-future proof, the One most likely won't make it 1 year before there is enough titles for it to fill the stock hard drive. I mean you're telling me for $500 for the console and $50 for live they couldn't have sprung for a 2 TB drive, especially with games taking up between 5 - 15 gb average size a pop? I realize Microsoft wanted to actually make a profit from the One unlike the original xbox (and 360 which broke even) but it's only hurting Microsoft's end goal of going digital only if people can't fucking install more than a handful of games at any one time. It took a massive amounts complaints to even get them to add in a graphic which tells you how much space is left on your device.

Regarding the proprietary harddrive joke someone made earlier, it's funny to think that the original 360 had an easily removable harddrive on the outside of the device. While I would prefer an easily accessible standard harddrive like the PS4 has, I wouldn't be strictly against proprietary either if there were multiple capacities to choose from and were competitively priced.

I'm pretty sure the HDD size is 500GB, but yeah I'd enjoy more space if given the option.

I don't see a problem with ab external if my games run just the same off it. I don't have to anything and if I buy a 1tb I'll basically have 1.5.

You can replace it today, with any 500GB+ drive you like. It's not hardware stopping you, it's not software stopping you, it's warranty.

So... bitch about console not having enough hard drive space. Then become shocked after it's fourth month on the market and become surprised it has 500 gbs HDD like it's closest competitor. Rrrrright.

Either way, i've yet to fill up half of my PS4 or Xbone's HDD with quality games. Both consoles are essentially good only for exclusives. I won't argue more storage, but i'd love access to games I've bought on demand from the previous consoles. But baby steps are better than none.

BASED HYRB.

Little by little XB1 is getting them features. Lot of it should've been there at launch but it's just nice to see new additions each month. Bring on friend notifications in April!
