Resulting to name calling always wins the argument..Ceb said:Videophiles will fork out $1,800 for the best product. Other home video enthusiasts might recognize the value in a sub-$500 PS3. The ones missing out are biased fools such as yourself. Luckily there aren't many people like you out there, or so I hope. "Ouch" indeed... :lol

What do these $1000+ units do other than play movies that justify that price? Do they record?
Mrbob said:Yes.
I can only imagine how much Blu-ray recorders would cost given the current situation.Mrbob said:Yes.
We don't have any prices yet for Blu Ray players. I'm sure these companies are going to try and maximize profits first off of player/recorders until offering strict players. Well they have as long as the PS3 launch, which will be strictly a Blu Ray player.
It looks like these announcements are for players only, which is cause for serious concerngofreak said:Is that for sure? I couldn't see mention of it in the Pioneer release, and I'm not full on details on the Samsung one.

Mrbob said:Actually, it does look like I am wrong, I read up on these Blu Ray devices and they are players only.
The samsung one confuses me. From what I'm reading it only outputs at 720P/1080i like the Toshiba HD DVD player for half the price. The Pioneer outputs at 1080P.
These prices will come down. I would expect by Fall 2006 to be nearly half of what the MSRP is right now. I don't see the PS3 launching before October/November 2006.

How much debt can Sony swallow and what are they doing to make up for the losses they will incur if tyhe PS3 is $300? $400 is looking more like the price to me for PS3.

Yes, but I dont see how Sony can stomach $299.... $399 maybe.Amir0x said:499.99 price would be deadly for my PS3 aspirations.

Beta had worse content support even though it was better technology.Norse said:They didnt follow that logic during the beta vhs days....beta was the better product yet lost big time.
DenogginizerOS said:You are right. I forgot to add the costs of Cell. So this will likely push it up close to$499.
Amir0x said:No actually, you should read it again. For greater comprehension justice.
DenogginizerOS said:I did. The "durr" implies that the suggestion PS3 would be $299 is completely stupid and I was reminding them that suggesting this price was pointless.
Same team. I learnt from you.
Warm Machine said:All things being equal between PS3 and the 360, the Blu-Ray drive alone will push a launch PS3 price beyond a launch 360.
Amir0x said:Who in the world thinks it'll be 299.99? Nobody seriously thinks that's a good estimate of what PS3 will cost. IF it's 399.99 it'd be a phenomenal deal. My worry is that it WON'T be 399 if these trends persist. It'll be more, and then I have to wait for like 4 price drops.
Stinkles said:I'll still buy it at $499, but I'll have to grit my teeth.

Mrbob said:The core 360. PS3 won't have the fixed cost of a HDD added on.
$349.99 is my guess. If Sony could pack all that technology into the PS2 at launch for $299.99, they can do the same for the PS3 at $349.99 with the added cost of Blu Ray considered.
Or look at what the 360 is packing at $299.99 w/o a hdd in the core pack. $349.99 for a PS3 in Fall 2006 isn't a stretch.
Warm Machine said:I don't think in the 10 months between now and proposed PS3 launch in the US that the player cost is going to drop significantly. DVD came out on the scene early 97 and the PS2 launched in March 2000 so there were pretty well three full years for the price to drop to an acceptable level. Even then stand alone DVD players were around $300+.
