[LEAK] Sony expresses concern about competition from Microsoft in internal communication

what?

You posted a link that you claimed debunked something but didn't actually do so. I asked for clarification, and suddenly I have a German podcast fetish?

To quote my words that YOU also quoted: "I'm not saying the number is accurate or not," I'm just curious about what, exactly, your claim is. I don't really give a shit how much the game cost, you just happened to pique my curiosity. If it's all too much for you, though, never mind.

I was more tagging the original poster.

The halo rumour came from a random German podcast and people just ran with it. It was debunked yet people still share it like its reality. Stinkles was high up at 343i and debunked it. So, it's pretty much proven to be false.

True.

But as some folks pointed out elsewhere, it is clearly a fake. If you look at the bottom-right corner, you can see Insomniac's faded logo on the images. 😄 Someone took the Insomniac's leaked slide, faded the logo but botched the job, and added this text.

This slide, if real, would have no business of having the Insomniac logo on it, as it'd be a matter of top SIE leadership.

P.S. I've no idea why this thread is still going on 😄 cc: Thick Thighs Save Lives Thick Thighs Save Lives
Not that I don't believe you but are we sure the slide is fake? The two images in my OP are taken from this gamingleaks megathread, specifically this comment:

I cant keep up with all these threads and I am not sure why my browser has linked that here when I quoted and replied to the original thread...strange.

Any basis to this?

They're most likely talking about this internal insomanic slide where they're deliberating if they should split Spider-Man 3 into 2 separate releases (e.g. Part 1 in Holiday 2027 and Part 2 the following year) with each one of them costing $50. Then a year later once both SM3 Parts are out they'll be launching a bundle deal for $60. The tweet seems FUD to me since we've already gotten these type of releases in the past (e.g. Starcraft II was split into 3 parts).

Not surprising at all, their biggest competitor suddenly started throwing previously unheard of amounts of money on third party publishers and the worlds regulators pretty much says "tough luck".

They're right about the Ps plus. I've had Ps Plus since the Ps3. On the Ps5 I only have it active from time to time and most of the time it's not worth it for me. And with this strange switch to extra and premium, they have completely lost me. But Gamepass is always active.

I cancelled mine this January for the 1st time in 6 years. Likely never going back to it.

Exactly. This is why I'm only buying stuff on PC these days.
I am a PC and Switch only gamer. I know how dirty Nintendo plays with BC and digital libraries so when push comes to shove and Nintendo inevitably screws their digital eco system up I will hack the Switch and dump my purchases on PC. I am not much of a handheld player, but love a lot of Nintendo exclusives. There is also a lot of Japanese or console exclusive games from third parties on Switch so I get them there....everything else I get on PC.

I mean, yes things like this are stated so that they can highlight future potential deficiencies before they happen. Way to stay ahead and anticipate change.
Xbox surely has it's own listing of strengths and what to counter in competitors

I think this is great that they recognise it but how will they respond.
We've seen no action up till now.
Its just been "oh no, this is happening" with no response.

I would have expected something being ready for the Activision merger of some kind but weve got nothing.

No one is waiting around for this to happen, MS will begin their push in 2024, so Sony has to respond. Some quick easy wins.

- PC launcher/Store with some big hitters, H:FW for example with cross save progression and trophies
- Now we've had the leak, release the roadmap officially in a big event, it would have far reaching impact and tease a PS5 pro
- Invest in your cloud operation and release an app on mobile
- Double down on what your good at, single player, iterative experiences. Do more like valhalla as your "live service"

Do all of this in q1/2 2024 and youll have a strong foothold into 25, but honestly sony aint gonna do this and expect them to stagnate.
That's not quite true, Bungie's purchase is 100% a reaction to Activision acquisition.

Absolutely wild that this leaks after days of Sony fans telling us all that Microsoft is dead and has no chance in gaming and needs to release all of their games on Playstation, like tomorrow....

I don't believe it will ever happen. Sony knows full well that the sales of its games will decrease significantly with that price. They might bundle some old games with new releases to achieve that price point or like what they're doing with the deluxe crap. Either way. Going from 70$ -> 100$ in one go is not a smart business move you need to gradually increase it. It's biz 101. These people prob didn't understand what they were reading.

Delusional Neogaf: "xbox is a non competitor."

Look up the word competitor and then apply it to the state of today's Xbox in the console market and then come back here and tell us your conclusion.

The announcement of Sony buying Bungie was made 13 days after the announcement of MS buying Activision, seems like a little bit too fast of a turnaround for stuff like this.

I think it was more a reaction to the Zenimax purchase.

Yesterday: Xbox is going third party
Today: Xbox is on verge of monopoly

like a clockwork :D
Then December Circana sales will be published and Xbox will again go third-party. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Single player games are cool but I also dig me some multiplayer and/or co-op action too. Someone needs to figure out how to make an engaging multiplayer experience without all the bullshit that goes with GAAS games (seasons, mtx out the wazoo, fomo shit). Like the good old days back in the 90's/00's remember?

There was very little need for them to do that with CoD and FIFA providing the multiplayer experience on PlayStation, and really, nothing has changed so no need to panic on that front for a while.

Yeah, I got very into COD Mobile recently and it's a very strong competitive and casual mobile shooter supporting both mobile and casting the game to a TV and play with controller. It surprised ATVI themselves when it reached success and it's still going strong since 2018.
Available for anyone with a smartphone; no online costs; not much gained from IAP since it's pretty well-balanced and lots of skins just make it dip frames. But the cheapest IAP is not too expensive which I find a good way in earning sales through, compared to other F2P games with expensive/premium IAP-fees.

I think if Sony wants to gain to earn cash on the F2P-market, they should develop a F2P-game for smartphones and keep the premium single player experience on PS. And add a super cheap PS+ tier for only online play for all games including F2P-games which then would need PS+ to work online at all.

An entire repository filled with goodies literally leaked online following the breach. Surely some deluded fanboy who got access to it must have created some photoshopped slide and snuck it in there to stir the pot and attempt to give it validity(since the entire file dump was from Sony servers). I mean look at the slide itself and its content, it literally looks like it was put together by a 10 year in a basement with lots of spare time in the hand. Corporate slides look a lot more professional than that and not like something that was put together in a hurry. Also PostUp is a fanboy so, best keep that in mind. He'll latch onto anything negative on Playstation he can find, even info that has no validity to it.

I love their games and iam not super big into gaas games expect some outlier like league of legends but they have to put more into gaas gamws themselves and they need to find success in that sector. Its gonna be hard if they dont.

Could also have been the reaction to Bethesda's purchase. Even though that would be very late. But they certainly knew about the purchase earlier than we did.

So what's the idea here then? They tried VR2 already, they are starting to release in PC now, they have a Game pass like streaming software with PS Plus Premium (except no day one releases), they tried and failed to get their GaaS plans off the ground.

So what's left to do? Go back to the handheld market and make a PSP 3? Recognizing that they need something else if fine but I don't see where they go from here.

There were infinite posts arguing that the deal was one giant leap towards MS's goal of monopolising the industry and should be blocked. Who said it was meaningless? Was this an actual argument made somewhere in the endless acquisition thread? Because it certainly wasn't the consensus.
Nothingburger = ie. deal would not have any impact in sales balance between Xbox and PlayStation and on sub services
Honestly, you both aren't wrong.

But this has been discussed to death already, so this entire thread could be redirected to any ABK-deal or Sony/GaaS topic.

It seems the commies were right after all. Capitalism will always lead to monopolization of an industry. We've seen this happen in many industries before, from news media to entertainment, and now video games too. At first it always starts with healthy competitions and innovation, but then inevitably the big ones always acquire the smaller ones, and since to stagnate is to fall behind, you either roll with that endless acquisitions and infinite growth, or you lose the money game and get swallowed up by others. Government oversight and other regulations only postpone the inevitable. Xbox is absolutely massive now with Zenimax and ABK. Sony has to follow suit now or stagnate into irrelevance. They don't have enough self-developed content and capacity to be self-sufficient, in a way that Nintendo is for example.

The only solution is uprooting the current system, a world-wide proletarian revolution. I'm sorry for ever having doubted you, daddy Marx. :messenger_weary:✊:messenger_weary:✊

I'm sure Sony is concerned about behemoth MS acquisitions, but even the language on these slides seem fake. There is no way a Sony presentation would mention "Microsoft" so many times in a few bullet points, it would make them look paranoid and obsessed (probably the goal of these fake slides).

Although…Intel did that very thing recently with AMD mentions in a leaked presentation, according to Steve at GN. Maybe these corporate types are more paranoid than I realize, 😂

Believe it or not Nintendo is actually 3rd in terms of profit, online is what brings the big money. This shows it's not all about console sales like many think, Microsoft manages to make more profit with way fewer consoles sold.
What's the interpretation there?

From what I recall Ps4 was the most profitable gaming console ever before Switch beat it back in 2021?

Although I guess it's somewhat old data at this point.
Nintendo is 3rd in terms of revenue but 1st in terms of profit. And a big reason for that is Sony/Microsoft reporting digital revenue in a different way to Nintendo.

Bizarrely it was MS and xbox "GAFers" like yourself calling it a nothingburger to get the deal through regulators.
So your gonna pretend there wasn't an army of PS "gaffers" in there too? Talking about how the ABK acquisition won't effect Sony and how MS are so desperate they bought a publisher? Some of you were even implying if the deal don't go through Xbox was doomed and Phil will be sacked…..

You are gonna pretend PS fans were not spreading that narrative in that thread?…

It's funny because I remember some of you acting like Jim Ryan was gonna ' save the day'….. look how that worked out for him…..

The things I've told people Sony would be looking to do in the future but many scoffed at it:
Mobile App Store
PC Storefront

I was laughing at the pc day one post thinking to myself "Why would Sony give up 30% of their game sales to Steam or Epic and devalue their console by releasing day one on PC?"

If Sony had their own store front it would make a little more sense, but as long as Playstation hardware is making any profit, I doubt Sony would release non multiplayer games day and date on PC. If their not doing day and date games, I don't see much use in having their own store front. It doesn't seem to be doing Epic any favors according to recent news.

You want receipts? Just go back and look at some of the comments in that thread.

Some of you were sure it was dead deal. You forget the part where Jim said bluntly " I just want to block the deal"……. Like he had any say in the matter? 😂😂😂

You'll get all the receipts you are looking for in that thread.
