Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword E3 trailer

Twilight Princess artstyle would work very well for this game:

For some reason I highly doubt this. Other M has all of the terrible qualities of every other Team Ninja game. The dialogue and cutscenes are very reminiscent of what you would see in Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. I find it hard to believe that Team Ninja wasn't responsible for this.

Samus is the same in Other M as she was in the official Nintendo manga.

Eh. I really, really like the SS style. TP was just... boring, sometimes. It seems so flat and lifeless in places (I get that was kind of the point, but still). On the whole I really wasn't pleased with the aesthetics.

At one point yes, though I'm not sure how much of the game was even done when they decided to change it.

I just remember at last years E3 Miyamoto said the game would've already been done if they stuck with the TP artstlye. I'm glad they changed the style to what it is but it would've been interesting to see it in TP style.

This would've been way more productive if this was an actual interview like the other guests. They should've just had Reggie talk about the Wii U on the show and ask questions from fans on twitter.

Oh hey, you're back. You didn't miss much.

GAF had somewhat of a collective meltdown during E3, particularly the Wii U stuff, and I'm kinda glad I wasn't around to participate in the stupid.

For anyone who was here five years ago, was there this much hype on GAF for Twilight Princess, or was that practically muted compared to what we're going through now?
lol this is nothing compared to what was TPs Gaf hype machine back then.

Correct. The hype for TP was rather immense.

And it delivered, which was great.
I need to replay TP. I've only played it once, and while it was amazing as always (playing Zeldas), the fact that I found it too close to OoT kinda held back my full enjoyment of the game. I need to play it in anticipation for SS in order to experience it with some more leveled expectations.

I feel that the art style is the best of two worlds but what I truly want to see Majora's Mask dark art style comes alive.

Yeah, thinking something like a mix between infamous' comic-book cutscenes, The World Ends With You and the Majora's Mask concept art. I think it'd look spiffy. You know, the bold dark, maybe even splattery/streaky outlines with black shading.

That's an understatement. TP's hype was legendary. I'm stoked for SS, but they're not even comparable.

I don't want that hideous TWEWY art style near my Zelda.

He's talking specifically about the style of shading with pure blacks, which Majora's Mask's artwork also uses. If you really don't want that near Zelda, you're about 10 years too late.

Yeah, only that the Majora's Mask artstyle has probably more in common with hellboy than with TWEWY and I really think that artstyle isn't suited well for a whole new zelda game.

I didn't mean like the design being all anime/Square-Enix looking. I meant the black shading style and bold outline features. Which is pretty much exactly how the Majoras Mask concept art is.

EDIT: Beaten.

I always find it a bit odd that the artwork for Majora's Mask was so different (compared to OoT), when the actual ingame visual were pretty much identical. MM was more saturated in its look, but that was mainly because of the textures.

I wished they had tweaked the engine a bit more to reflect the artwork of MM. It fits so great with the surreal and grim themes of the game.

Meltdown? GAF? No way!

I kept myself away from most post-E3 threads. Didn't want to deal with the stupid.

TP is my favorite of the 3D Zeldas so I'm a bit biased, but I love the almost surreal nature of the world. And the awesome character designs.

Why would you want to miss out on gems like.

"Looks worse than the PS360 versions!"

"Uh Nintendo confirmed that's 360 footage"

True. But the main issue is that it doesn't work on Wii. Thus we can be glad that they went for an art style which hides the Wii's massive texture problems which were evident in TP.

This plays a part in why it was received so poorly as well I believe. Nintendo never bothered to release that outside of Japan. This is a huge problem with their Japan first and everywhere else a very distant second approach. How they thought they could release something worldwide when the basis for it was material that was only release in Japan and even then in manga form is crazy!? Had they released it elsewhere at the time maybe the reaction wouldn't have been so negative. Then again it also could have cause the backlash to happen years earlier. Both Nintendo and Team Ninja were to blame for any problems Other M had as far as I"m concerned.

While Sakamoto is co-creator of Metroid maybe he shouldn't be allowed to touch it going forward or at least be the one to decide the details. Then again maybe the reaction was an overreaction. I still have yet to play Other M myself but the response from fans gave me serious pause at the time of it's release.

Zelda has only benefited from having others calling the shots over the years. No reason why Metroid couldn't as well. Look at the Metroid Prime series for example.

I like the SS artstyle. I wonder though how Twilight Princess would look with the added power of the Wii, it's like twice the power of a Gamecube I think. Which reminds me, has it been confirmed yet that SS is running on a modified version of the Twilight Princess engine?

Its a Gamecube game

How come this game isn't winning any awards? The media neglect for this game is getting annoying. they are just voicing their concerns without actually praising the tangible stuff.

It's going to win GAF's GOTS. That is the only award that matters.
