the fact i have to do this again after retiring from popgaf:
Rihanna can singlehandedly change the fabric of the music industry every time she makes a comeback. From Umbrella to We Found Love to Diamonds to now, FourFiveSeconds. She is constantly setting the trend in music rather than following the trend. She constantly reinvents her persona to fit every era. She constantly improves her live performances as time goes by. She is undisuputably one of the most influential women in music today as well as having established pillars in other industries: to her River Island fashion line, her MAC cosmetic collection, her budding filmography, and her status as recognized fashion icon.
Rihanna will leave a LEGACY. We even have other copycat artists such as Rita Ora trying to swagger jack Rihanna's image. We can see her influence on budding starlets today. Even Ariana Grande is starting to shed her good girl image in favor of being known as a baddie, all because of Rihanna's impact.
Now to address her talent: who else can captivate her audience for a decade without faltering once? She had humble beginnings with Pon de Replay, allowing her room to develop into the gigantic pop phenonmenon she is today. Her vocal timbre is recognizable, her stage presence is only outmatched by Beyoncé, and she has songwriting credits on every album. She has the Midas touch, able to craft hits with ease. She has experimented with every genre as well: rock, dancepop, EDM, R&B, country, etc. Who else can say that?
Only the pop icon of our generation:
Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
Bow down.
EDIT: I wish I could DRAG the scalp of every STR8 in here but unfortunately I am in CLASS on MOBILE. So unfortunately your wigs will have to remain intact. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. I WILL humble you
You sound absoluely THREATENED and I am assuming that you have nothing of WORTH to say based on your TIRED, INSIPID whitenoiss commentaryI wouldn't like to see you get angry about something important.

Let me guess! You found your father's old 60s records and are still claiming that flops like The Rollingstones and The Beatles are ~relevant~. Not today ma'am! Have you seen dementia ridden Paul McCartney try to stand onstage at the Grammy's? Poor him! Real musi stan, stop! Are you Rihanna, or her manager? Man there is some disputable stuff in this post. I am sorry but this goes too far. You cannot make stuff like this up. A legacy? This is simply crazy stuff to write brother. She may be selling records like cupcakes but that doesn't make her influential for the music industry, i.e; actually doing original music or transforming the music to another level. Everything she does has been done before. She likes attention. That's what she will be remembered for. Not for vocal talent, fashion designing or "acting".
Oh please fuck off with the foolishness.Talent does not matter these days. Show some skin, act rich, glamorous and fashionable and you are set. Any one who thinks she makes good music needs to listen to more music.

ain't it thoWhat a strange bunch in here..
Expose him. I still look back fondly on the day the Rude Boy music video dropped because it heralded the end of heterosexual Caucasian male "music" supremacy in our society. Poor The Rocks! Poor The Roaches!Let me guess! You found your father's old 60s records and are still claiming that flops like The Rollingstones and The Beatles are ~relevant~. Not today ma'am! Are they?Love how the poor popgaf folks are posing as victims in this thread tho lol
right because being an actor is such a stressful job that requires so much effort and energy
lets be real here, rihanna probably exerts more man-hours on a major tour than leo puts in for an entire year worth of filming
Um... this is not about comparing acting and music but rather comparing Leo and rihanna. My original point was not even about hard work but talent. Leo is where he is because he is a good actor. He is not coasting by titillating or acting glamarous. Rihanna in my opinion is not a talented singer. She is just like other pop singers in today's age who absolutely need to look good and titilate to succeed in the medium. Obviously all of this requires hardwork but I do not think as a musician ( the art form she represents ) she is talented. She probably knows it which is why she has to go through all the trouble of making raunchy videos ever so often because her music is bankrupt. Most mainstream modern music is actually these days but she represents the pinnacle of this trend.
What a strange bunch in here..

Bull fighting. Pop GAF is the bull, Rihanna is the red cloth.I don't understand what's being argued in here
are people actually comparing actors to singers right now or have i gone insane

She might not have the range or power but I do think she has a great voice for what she does with it.
Meanwhile Leo has never turned in a performance strong enough to win an Oscar (I mean even Cher has an Oscar for acting), so idk why you think Rihanna is the one who's lacking in her respective field here.
Yikes. I bet Leo doesn't even write his own scriptsMeanwhile Leo has never turned in a performance strong enough to win an Oscar (I mean even Cher has an Oscar for acting), so idk why you think Rihanna is the one who's lacking in her respective field here.
His talent play a big part but he REAPS and ENJOY the benefits of being hot.He is not coasting by titillating or acting glamarous.
I agree a little with this, I like a LOT her singles but could not be bothered to listen the albums and don't enjoy her live performances.Rihanna in my opinion is not a talented singer.
She is not, just the fact that she is trying to represent the "fierce black women" in an industry known to fawn over the cute white poptart is a BIG difference, and her sound is very different in every single of her eras. She is just like other pop singers in today's age who absolutely need to look good and titilate to succeed in the medium.
Her mos successfull video is the one for Diamonds and is not raunchy, neither the one for her latest single FourFiveSeconds..She probably knows it which is why she has to go through all the trouble of making raunchy videos ever so often because her music is bankrupt. not sure if they did a cover or if you're kidding but the song Stan is with Dido. There's a version with Elton John too thoughIs Rihanna the one who singed "Stan the Man" with Eminems?
what is a straight
Rihanna: 13 #1 hits and 150 million records sold.
Leo: 0 oscars
